Thank you for a truly amazing talking machine! it would be louder if it had a diaphragm design, dont you think? The glass tube looks like a different patent idea altogether, too bad he got sued anyways! It may have worked better using the hearing tubes of its day rather than the little horn. Amazing machine! Thanks for the great demo!
Wow ! fascinating. While it looks crude to our modern iPod seeing eyes, it must have been thought great when originally sold, especially as so relatively cheap.
That is "Liberty Bell March" played by the Edison Concert Band on a mid-1890s brown wax cylinder. The song has become far more widely known in recent years as the theme to "Monty Python."
Fascinating and informative as usual but I didn't realise how poor the reproduction was! I think I'll stick to an Edison machine if I ever buy a cylinder phonograph :P
It certainly can't rival an Edison but then again, remember that it was 1/15 the cost of the cheapest Edison of the time. For the price, it didn't sound too bad. But there's certainly a reason I don't play this one daily!

Look at the rotation of the cylinder: its runs against the needle. Right the needle and the cylinder should be parallel? Wont it destroy the record?

Screw Columbia.
This Ecophone is some very nice gadget. Very cool indeed. Less sophisticated than Columbia but very simple.
