@jeffreygaudreault Thats right, the true '73 version has got the definitive killer organ / guitar interplay goin on. That version has Blackmores finest chops n riffs showcased in it - I reckon anyway! :)

Maybe half a dozen bands had the musical genius and the artistic prowess to make the best out of their creations both in the studio and in live performances. Deep Purple is one of these very few blessed groups of musicians. They are GODS of the mystical element that is music. We can worship them or accept that their creations are above our understanding, but doubting them would be nothing less that blasphemy. Sometimes when I listen to something else, I feel like a cheater or a false worshipper.
They were lazy when they wrote this song. I mean the melody is literally based on a blues schema and that's an easy way to write a song. The lyrics are also average. Dissapointing song.
For the people commenting that this version isn't the same as the original Made in Japan record....there was some sort of three-disc version put out in the last decade that contained all three nights of the concert at that venue. I'd assume this is from that CD set.
this is not the original, I listened to this album a billion times, and as much as this kicks ass, this is not the original live album, this is a bit different.

Love Blackmore but Eddie is the man. What these comments don't mention is that what ritchie and eddie have most in common is that they are both EGOMANIACS! Purple should have been way bigger. They are TEN times better than Zeppelin. Blackmore ruined that. Eddie WAS in the biggest band. He split with Roth and VH sucked with Hagar.
Yes, of course Deep Purple, as a band, were better than Van Halen, but Ritchie was never as good as Eddie. Don't get me wrong, I am a big Blackmore fan and in terms of feeling and emotion, he probably was the better of the two. But technically, and in terms of innovation, Eddie Van Halen was miles ahead of Ritchie Blackmore.
@felix3840 Oooooh....respectfully disagree. I like EVH and for that matter VH as a band. They were giants among their contemporaries (the ridiculous posers like...won't go there now). However, while in the same league of big boys, Blackmore has it over Eddie. Just an opinion. Blackmore infused jazz, blues, Bach classical, etc. with searing technical precision. Eddie was great but in the vernacular of a ice hockey, he was a 30 - 40 goal scorer (good) to Blackmore's 50-76 goal scorer (great).
@MercyfulFart you are indeed correct, it was not on the original MIJ release. It was recorded on the "other" night from the two (or was it 3?) Japanese concerts which were recorded in 1972. It became available several years later when all the Japanese recordings were released.

He's got a really cool website, check it out. A righteous, humble, humanitarian, who seems like he has a big heart. Bright guy, to say the least. Cheers, mate.
@jmet2244 Fuck, that's the state where the cops shot and killed a dog, traumatized little kids, and all they found was an empty cannabis pipe. That's kinda why I like to call it the state of ''misery", instead of"miss-your-e". While the high up law enforcement, i.e. C.ocaine I.mporters A.gency pollutes poverty stricken black neighborhoods in South Chicago and probably in Columbia, MO, as well, with the help of illegals, often times, with crack!!!
Ce n'est pas non plus la version que j'ai de "Made in Japan"... @DoctorBob409 The great thing about Ritchie, and the deficiency of EVH, is that Ritchie 1* has righteous strings and 2* plays in so many different idioms even while keeping to his own particular style. Eddie is technically great but he sounds like he's stuck in 1987... Ritchie is stuck in several centuries at least...
@DoctorBob409 I agree, although none of us can deny that Eddie changes guitar almost as much as Hendrix did, not nearly as revolutionary, but revolutionary, nonetheless. And yes, Van Halen, for the most part, was a pretentious, contrived, circus!! L.O.L. I still like them. They were actually HUGE fans of Purple. Along with Sabbath and Zeppelin, Purple was part of the founding fathers of Hard Rock/Metal. The neat thing though, is they were fucking Jazz & classical, as well!
Thats just ignorant nonsense from a totally inept fool. They are different. Both can co-exist in the great category. Im a guitar player and am old enough to see Blackmore in his day and Eddie. Any guitar teacher will tell you Blackmore cannot hold a candle to EVH in skill. They're not even in the same league--and I love Richie. He is like Page, great song writers(much better than VH in that respect). But your just a lame no nothing loud mouth with no knowledge of Rock
Don't ever f*cking comparis bands like deep purple and van Halen etc. to each other, cause they're uncomparisble to each other. Lol i'm as high as heaven
I bought this album when it was brought out for 25 dutch guilders en still treasure it.But still think wasn''t there best and isn''t hard to sing like a sick chicken when you are stoned.Deep Purple in Rock was the best for me! Andy Bos
very nice version, but where is the extended part of Swedis Rhapsody #1 Ritchie Blackmore plays at 8:40?

I can remember when my older Brother who was a DEEP PURPLE FREAK bought this double album and told me to keep my fucking hands off!!!
I cranked it every chance I got when he left the house.
I was 11 when this came out. I was hooked on DEEP PURPLE ever since.
I have it on CD now and crank it up in heavy rotation.
BEST BAND EVER!!!!
You are right it still kicks ass after all these years.
When Rock music was ROCK MUSIC and not like all the faggy shit now adays!!!!

Original "Made in Japan" there's only one, and this song does not belong to him!

Made in Japan was made from 3 gigs performed between August 15-17. LIVE in Japan features all three nights. There's where this came of.

I wonder why if it is reckoned the best album (live) of all time, it has just 16665 views. Mah..

slvrfx55 2 years ago

stradlin62 2 years ago
