  • @kimlene05 The AFLCIO members should be the ones to vote out trumka if they don't like him.

  • Major Corporations and special interests will pay the senate as much money as it takes so they will not pass this act. Because without Unions it allows the Rich to control what we do in the work place. Basically without Union support and organized workers, we become slaves!

  • The result of the passage of this legislation will be more jobs for Mexico. You can bank on that.

  • Obama refused to end NAFTA. The worker in America is done for.

  • @rickbar123 Obama reform on Health. Turned into a reform that Mussolini and Hitler would of loved.

  • @v19d All first world countries have universal healthcare. If you want to say that UH is a fascist policy than you have to accuse contemporary England, Norway, and France of being fascist. You also have to remember that Hitler and Mussolini spoke of leaving the unproductive members of their society, their societies being a rigged game, to die in poverty or worse. Hell, you're "free market" corporate welfare system is fascism.

  • @Distortion0 You're dumb thinking Obama reform on Health is Universal healthcare. These other first world nations there healthcare system is funded by Government. Mussolini and Hitler would love his piece of legislation is the fact it requires people to buy. The legislation that was passed will make peoples lives hell because it forces people to buy. So you're obama health reform is consider fascism by the meaning of forcing to buy. The force idea to buy is fascist in general.

  • @v19d In all Universal Healthcare systems people who can afford to pay are forced to pay. This prevents people from pushing the costs of their emergency healthcare onto other people, which is part of the reason US healthcare is so expensive. Again, in Germany, England and Japan, you have to pay for healthcare. The only reason the US system was so "free market" was because the right was pushing for that. The Democrat plan was to offer the option of State-run healthcare to those who wanted it.

  • @Distortion0 Ever heard of Private Hospitals. Those exists in all nations with Universal Healthcare. Lets see who killed the public option like Max Baucus a Democrat. He killed any idea of Single Payer. In all Universal Healthcare systems the government does in fact pay for your Healthcare. Use a Government Hospital you don't pay. But there are private Insurance and Private Hospitals for competition.

  • @v19d And your point is? All the existence of private hospitals proves is Universal Healthcare doesn't lead to fascism. All Baucus proves is that the Democrat Party is a mess and will take anyone these days. Private hospitals are still forced to accept emergency care patients, whether they want to or not. It's Federal law. This means that the fees of people who can't pay still get pushed on people who can. Single payer was widely supported by the Democrat party and its base.

  • @Distortion0 The point that in Nations with Universal Healthcare the Government pays for medical services collected from taxes.Besides the next answer is that you just answered the Max baucus bill. This affordable Care act is nothing more then a pack of lies. Its a bill that makes americans lives hell. The exodus will happen and a underground economy will occur as well. You still don't get what Universal Healthcare is. Max Baucus comes from the racist Woodrow Wilson faction of the Dems.

  • @Distortion0 When Max Baucus is up in just 3 years it is more likely his successor will be a Republican because the Democratic Party leaders like Max are now viewed what is wrong with America. They've flipped flopped on issues of war to the fairytale Heal Reform. Lets look at Single Payer the people of the Montana Democratic Party will likely ask Max why Single payer wasn't optional and no mandate to get insurance.

  • @v19d I agree on your conclusion. The Democrat Party is trying to paint itself as conservative, so its conservatives are just going to vote Republican. Meanwhile it's left-ist base is going to abandon it because they aren't pushing leftist policies anymore. There's no strong leadership, Obama on healthcare simply demanded a bill and then left the various factions to squabble about the specifics which only makes the factionalism worse.

  • @Distortion0 The Democrat plan did died go and thank your buddy Max Baucus.

  • @v19d So having a bunch of corporate giants hold health insurance over your head or become bankrupt is not a scare tactic by the right. Insurance companies in Texas are regulated by an all republican elected RR commission. They raise rates faster than a cat can lick her ass. By having a single payer system these insurance companies would have to stop funding golf tournaments and quit going to tittie bars and actually look for people to buy another kind of policy. Health policies make them rich.

  • @Distortion0 This so called reform is opposed by the left and right. Yes I said the left like people like you. Hitler and Mussolini also banned people from bringing home products outside of their countries on their vacations unless they were their supporters.

  • @Distortion0 In other nations healthcare is free due to Universal Healthcare. In America Obama wants to make peoples lives hell by forcing people to buy.

  • @Distortion0 Why don't you take your scare tactic and shove it up your ass.

  • yeah go back to working at mcdonalds you fucking rat

  • @sergiocobat These outsourcers love no manufacturing so American girls can be treated like trash. Or where they would love to see Americans be treated like 3rd world poor people where the government hires death squads to shoot people because they can't read or write or so forth.

  • One of my unions main goals is to educate workers to make them more valuable. In florida , the union companies are all specialty electrical companies. Your average electrician can't walk in and do what they do. All thanks to the union's free seminars and curriculum. How does that not make the employer more profitable?

BTW i have seen first hand people getting laid off or fired simply for asking about unions, I was laid off for asking another worker about the union. How is that fair?

    EFCA NOW!

  • the secret vote thing doesn't take away your right to,"vote in secret." when you belong to a union, and are forced to a vote, there is nothing, and i repeat, NOTHING secret about it. if i recall, my most recent vote was done using my ssn. i think the idea behind this is that people are supposed to feel free to unionize. choose to belong or not. the fundamental right to organize is necessary. either you pay 'em or work for 'em. that's what it's all about.

  • In Las Vegas the union presence forces the non union employers to pay more and offer better benefits so they can recuit competent employees while trying to prevent organizing. It is the union that drives what an employee is worth to the employer. Anyone against the Free Choice Act should live the life of a person instrumental in trying to organize an employer and see how much that company really cares about it's employees and how much evil they are capable of. Been there, done that.

  • What happened to recending NAFTA and GATT? What a joke. Obama said whatever he need to in order to get union endorsements..

  • I wonder how the employees of Dodge and GM feel about the union? Their jobs don't seem to be going so well. My job is non union and I love it. We have great benefits and are paid fairly and even in these hard times are getting bonuses. People think they deserve to make top dollar for mindless jobs that take no skill, therefore the employer is stressed finantially. The union makes promises to get the employee more money, but what good is that if the company can't handle it and goes bankrupt?

  • Didn't Henry Ford first come up with the 40-hour-week and minimum wage?

  • One of the major lessons of recent world history is that free and vital trade unions are a strong bulwark against the growth of totalitarian movements. We must, therefore, be everlastingly alert that in striking at union abuses we do not destroy the contribution which unions make to our democratic strength.

    -Harry S. Truman

  • If the majority of workers want a union now, there is nothing stopping them from voting for it in a secret ballot. There is no rational justification for this legislation. The Employee Forced Choice Act takes away the right to keep ones vote private, allowing union goons to intimidate workers into signing on. The right to secret ballot is fundamental to democracy.

Worse, the act forces businesses and unions to accept government arbitration in strikes, whether both want it or not.

  • Are you kidding me!? ever heard of the Taft-Hartely act?

  • If unionizing is so superior, why are Union Bosses trying to take away the secret ballot? Won't employees recognize this and vote for the unions anyway?

  • the secret ballot remains, employer intimidation is what we are trying to stop! with the Taft-Hartely act, the employer decides the nature of the election, not the workers. with EFCA, it will go back to the workers. It's called democracy, live with it!

  • What is wrong with the owners of the company deciding how things should be done again?

  • Tony and Vinny suggest that for the health of you and your family that you re-consider your position opposing the union.

  • The Carlyle group and Toby Keith suggest that it's unamerican and anti-Jesus to disagree with big business. So what your wage has stayed the same while the value of the dollar plummets... At least you can go down to the impoverished south and compete with illegal immigrants for meager wages...

  • We need to start giving tax breaks to huge corporations that don't outsource jobs, bust unions, and slash worker benefits. Not the other way around like we have seen under Reagan, Clinton and the 2 Bushes. The CONSTITUTION CLEARLY STATES that it is politicians duty to represent us, NOT lead us.

Libertarians, go back in your history books and see how good the economy was when union membership was at 70%, compared to now. That's one hell of a coincidence, wouldn't you say....

  • the Chinese communist party thanks you for making US business non-competitive and running US industry out of business and making China boom.

Wanna see a wasteland? go to Detroit, Ohio or Philadelphia.. miles of abandoned homes from unions running all the factories out of town and down south where they won't be harassed by union thugs.

  • The big business thugs (CEOs) that make billions off scamming the middle class want to thank you for running the money to the top 1% while deceiving the low-wage worker that it's the right thing to do.

I'm from 20 mins outside of Philly and I can tell you confidently that you're 100% full of s***.... With local 1180 I received $22.50 +health benefits while the same exact job in southeastern North Carolina paid $12 per hour non-union....

  • Let me lay this out to you.. you lazy entitled brat. You aren't entitled to jack. Those companies aren't squeezing those workers, those workers should be grateful every day that they can get a job in the morning. Those companies can pack up and bolt anytime. You don't get it... labor is nothing.. the only thing that has value is entreprenuerial creativity.. that makes microsoft, google, starbucks, home depot. unions and labor make nothing, they just destroy companies. labor is just a commodity

  • Libertarians know fuck all about actual economics.

  • Care to back that up?

  • Obama is a lying piece of shit. He is not a person who believes in unions. He hasn't done anything to push the Employee Free Choice Act and he won't.

Hopefully the Employee Free Choice Act will pass and unions will get better. Let's just hope that the unions don't depend on a politician like Obama. They must organize and push themselves.

Also the "libertarians" online need to STFU. The world is not like your textbooks and you know you are the minority. The majority support unions!!!!!

  • Addressing your last paragraph: majority belief does not necessitate accuracy, or wisdom, or moral righteousness. At one time, a majority of Germans supported the Nazis, did they not?

An idea that has a larger support is not necessarily better than another.

  • Then I'll put it in better words, the majority support it with extreme propaganda being thrown at them trying to make them hate unions. This was a true democratic feeling, a majority creating an organized opinion that came from BELOW. That's real democratic and the best and most humane option. The Nazi situation (which the majority didn't support either), does not pass that criteria even though the Nazi party did get in via the vote.

  • I sincerely apologize for my mistake. But even so: had a majority supported the regime and had they voted, this support does not vindicate its morality or strength. So my analogy remains valid.

Let me bring up another example. Communism in Soviet Russia and Mao's China were initiated by a majority. (Communist doctrine is based on the wants of most men.) But if you grew up in the Western world or thinks rationally, you realize that capitalism is morally superior to communism.

  • You'd be surprised what happens behind closed doors.

  • Obama is the pretty boy spokesmodel for the democrats two most powerful groups: millionaire personal injury lawyer and union bosses. Obama is a front for criminal extortionists.

  • It is like someone pointing a gun to your head. Guys were getting paid $65 to mow the lawn. Unions can strike, intentionally lower product quality and cause headaches. Most executives don't want to deal and fight the unions and just give in. The result is that they destroy the companies because the union companies can't compete. Look around up North? no factories anymore and the non-union South is loaded with them.

  • Thank you for some insight on why the south is so dirt poor, I had been wondering...

  • No one is saying that the market is perfect. Nothing is perfect. But relying on criminal organizations (unions) to make wages through extortion is making a deal with the devil. The unions are simply to evil. They destroyed GM, Chrysler, US Steel, Bethlehem Steel, Eastern, Pan Am.. gov't unions killed Brazil, France, Philadelphia, California is going bankrupt. I am sorry your salary was low but nothing justifies the monstrous evil of unionization.

  • Capital-intensive companies like Auto makers and Airlines are at the mercy of the union thugs. Unions can threaten to shut down the factories or the airlines. This is simple criminal extortion and GM was paying $65 to hire unions in the same way a mugger points a gun to your head and asks for your wallet. GM's problem was it was too weak in dealing with union scum and the thuggish unions destroyed the company.

  • KNEEL BEFORE YOUR UNION OVERLORDS!

Unions are the most powerful and destructive force on earth, they destroyed france, israel, uk. Cities like Detroit, Philly, etc.. They destroyed american industry and made the chinese rulers of the earth. They do not help works, but use them as pawns in their evil extortion rackets. Government unions are bankrupting California and seek to bankrupt the country and manic spending and use the Democrats as their agent.

  • Spoken like a truly rich, greedy, oppressionist, sleez-ball !!!

Spread some more propaganda you right wing crazy sleezball.

We are not out here to be slaves for the wealthy... we're just trying to raise our families and put a roof over our head you slimey facist pig !!!!

  • Your family? What companies will be left in america after the union thugs have destroyed them? GM, pan am, chrysler, steel? all gone thanks to unions. Who will hire your kids when you've strangled our industry?

  • Bullshit. Unions are what help workers and their rights.

Only ones who don't like unions are the companies who have to pay their workers more or actually give opportunities to the workers who would not otherwise have.

  • Guys who mowed the lawn were getting paid $75 an hour at GM. That's just an extortion racket. The union thugs ran GM and Chrysler into the gound and they are so powerful now they own the companies they destroyed. Someone has to stand up to the union thugocracy, the so called "pro business" republicans are cowards before union might and intimidation.

  • Well then we need unions for some of the unions then...

  • I don't believe anything Obama says AKA Barry Soetoro. Obama needs to show us his Birth Certificate and documents from his schools. He's a foreign imposter and the truth will be revealed, and when it is all the laws will be revoked anyway. Constitutional crisis is the only change we get from this British East African.

  • conspiracy kook much?

  • Obama is paying lawyers to hide his birth certificate. We know that fact because his lawyers answers to suits all over the country are public record. Theres nothing crazier than a President hiding his birth certificate. People need to know that fact.

  • Well I see by some peoples comments that they feel they make a fair wage and any working class person that makes more then them needs to take a pay cut. Its funny how you business types put out comments against unions and EFCA pretending to be part of the working class. We are not as dumb as you think, as if the working class would fight against a law that would make it EZ for the middle class to organize for better wages.

  • Unions do not create jobs. They are simply extortion rackets. I'll grant you, your union will give you a temporary job, but you're kiling the country. The unions destroyed the airlines, auto industry, steel, bankrupt cities, states like California. They are an evil menace and unfortunately it is too late. They are too powerful to stop.

  • This is a great video. We voted in the union 7 years ago. We went through mandatory meetings prior to the vote telling us our pay would be cut among other lies. After the union was voted in, my pay increased $6,000/year on the first year of the first contract. Even in this terrible economy, we were able to bargain a 5% COLA for this year. It is correct to remember that noone in upper management works without a contract. Why should you?

  • I think we all should have a choice to join a union or not. But no one has a right to have my address, telephone given them by my employer and then use that harass me. By the way I think freedom of choice is so important that my employer should have this as well. Employee free choice act. He should be able to tell the union to get lost. After all its his company, let him have the right over his own product. If you do not like it quit and start your own company. May be that corrupt union ......

  • If a company wants to decertify, they can already use "card check" to get signatures for 50% of employees, and remove the union. This has been the law. Employee Free Choice would give us equal rights.

  • It's not about secret ballot your employer already knows who is for and against the union without going in and voting I work for a company that fires you if you just mention the word "UNION" thats not right to be fired because you spoke the word "UNION" If companies did the right thing people wouldn't be for the unions. This is make employers step up to the plate and do what is right

  • Yes unions have some bad people but that doesnt make unions bad; it like the nut with the gun is bad not the gun. Unions are not just about wages they give you safety standards, job security and seniority just to name a few. Lets say you have been working at a job for 5 years and you worked your way up to $10 an hour and youre good at what you do. Then they hire a new guy or girl for minimum wage and let you go. Later you find out that the person was the bosses relative.

  • People need to support USA goods buy American made goods. Dont have the mind set of the 70s and 80s. That it cool, rebelish, to just not care and buy foriegn goods. Many of our polititians & media would have you believe this, they're in the back pockets of many foriegn companies And just like sheep many people follow them. Dont be a sheep help American workers out be Patriotic buy and look for USA goods in stores and on line We can not wait and be sheep to paid off polititains

  • The trend of substantially higher wages for unionized workers continues through every sector. For example in the construction occupations a non-union worker averaged only $582 per week while unionized workers averaged $933 per week - nearly $10 per hour more.

  • good luck competing world wide with in-efficient union mgnt.

  • Why are you so freaked out, If an employer is paying a living wage and treats their workers with respect workers will pass on the union anyway?

  • People in other countries have more unions than we have. It's not unionization that causes one country to have undervalued currency, or high unemployment.

  • The national weekly median average income for a non-union service sector worker, which includes healthcare support, food prep, and janitorial services - was $404 in 2006 or $10 per hour. On the flipside, a union worker in that same sector averaged $629 per week - or more than $15 per hour

  • Dont try to keep me from making a living wage, WHY!!! Would any worker not want this, if you are a worker and you dont want this you are a moron. If you post a comment come out and say if you are a worker or an employer.

Im A Worker and Im for making a living wage

  • We tried it 'their' way, and the status quo is in shambles, disparity is inexcusable, jobs are dwindling with security, the corruption has been systemic, and they want to scare people into holding onto an outdated albatros.

The time has come and the circumstances warrant change. Employee Free Choice Act should be passed without hesitation.

  • It's so crazy to witness what has happened in this country. We have corporate talking heads like Limbaugh and Hannity that have succeeded in brainwashing the middle class to the point where they are voting against their own interests. Without the democratic party & unions, our country would consist of 1 greedy billionaire to 50,000 poverty stricken slave laborers with nothing in between. THis disparity is the whole reason for our economic problems. Strong middle class = strong econony. Wake UP

  • The only reason why anyone would want to eradicate secret ballots when voting for anything is to afford them the ability to intimidate others into voting a certain way. That is precisely why we vote in private in this country, and why no one can be compelled to tell anyone how they voted. This is just another fascistic tactic of the far left designed to ELIMINATE freedom of choice. If there's one thing that leftists are good at, it's naming something the exact opposite of what it actually is.

  • DarcPrynce

Employee Free Choice Act still allows for a secret ballot if the employees want it.

  • the crazed pinko former head of the SEIU dreams of "total unionization". This is just step one of his communist dream.

  • If you want your employer to go the way of GM and Chrysler, go ahead and vote to have unions run it.

  • Unions are nothing but collusion and monopolization of labor.

When employers do it, it's a crime. When the AFLCIO does it, it's backed by the government.

Child labor was NOT a "union fight"

If the AFLCIO wants to be a union, that's fine. But when they try to get their preferences instituted as law, they are communist pieces of crap.

  • It time for workers to have a say in their employment, instead of just being a money making tool for corporations. Thats why I strongly support the Employee Free Choice Act.

  • Comment removed

  • We've taken the hard won fights for granted too long. It's time to turn this country around. EFCA NOW!

  • This is what I voted for. Fairness for American Workers.

  • Wake up - let me vote without the pressure of thugs and co-workers!

  • Employees have been fired for trying to organize in their workplaces. Currently the secret ballot is under managements control. If you want to vote on what happens in your workplace, choose a union. A union is just the beginning of your ability to vote and have a voice at work. You will vote on contracts affecting your financial compensation along with benefits such as seniority, healthcare, vacation and retirement. Vote Union Yes! Support the Employee Free Choice Act.

  • You mean thugs like the union busters employers hire to prevent their employees from choosing union?

And YOU should wake up. The employee free DOES NOT eliminate the secret ballot. Maybe you should actually read it so you can do more than just pretend you have an opinion.
