Wrestling will never be like this again. This was before the WWE corporation destroyed the concept of kayfabe. Without kayfabe, regardless of how tenuous it may be, you would never get heat from the crowd like this match. Thanks for posting.
@eraffel Exactly...love was love and hate was hate back then. There was no gray area...heroes were heroes and villains were to be damned to the lowest tier of hell. There was no possibly justification in championing devils like Piper...Sullivan...Sawyer and Borne...anyone who was against the VonErich family. If you liked the bad guys, you better not go to a live show, that was for certain. In 87ish, some friends and I went to a WWF show and I really thought we might be hung...
@blackcottoncandycane for cheering for Sherri vs Robin...and the funny thing was...Sherri responded to,and appreciated us...every chance that she got.The fact that she noticed us was a sign of the times.I didn't mean to make this a Sherri thing...but the point was that back then, if you were on the side of a heel, you needed to worry about if you were going to get lynched...and,Sherri was sexy...and so was Robin...but far more so on her back.
My mom and brother were probably at this show. St. Louis always got awesome cards from WWF, NWA and the AWA and they came through all the time, not this every 6 months maybe crap. Even with shows all the time, St. Louis crowds would go nuclear. Thanks for posting this and reminding us of a better time for wrestling.
I'm surprised they didn't have Thesz hit Piper back. That would have drawn cheer big time.

I always love it when the heel calls "time out". It definitely draws a distinction between the brave heroic face and the cowardly devious heel.

This was supposed 2 b the co-main event at the 1st wrestlemania. In a steel cage culminating with snuka leaping off the top of the cage on piper.

This match was RED HOT. Good luck finding fans this pumped up for a match these days, even at a Wrestlemania.
