Hercules was a half god. A demi God, off spring of a mortal and God. Hercules was both human and divine, Any of the half Gods were both. Not fullyGod, but at the same time not fully human.
my interpretation from the original bible in its original greek is that they were fallen angels, they made people to believe they were "gods".
This story is slightly different in all parts of the world and in all cultures.
In greek mythology, hercules is half god but when you put all these mythologies together it all makes sense, they were the same fallen angels from genesis 6.
Man I remember now why I enjoyed this show so much as a child. But pretty hilarious as an adult. The ridiculousness and implausability of it all is a part of its charm.
I grew up watching reruns of this toon on Sunday mornings. Really brings me back to see them. Also makes me realize just how scarred my childhood was by trippy characters on TV (*shudders over the teenage centaur Newton*)
In Windsor/Detroit on CKLW we had the HERCULES SHOW where they had a super-cheesy set with columns etc and flashing lights with some wrestler dressed up as Herc to present the cartoons. Even had a Newton character voicing off-camera. The kind of thing you'd only expect to see in some place like Mexico these days.
Where is the one where Helena is trapped behind a stone wall, and the only way for Hercules to save her is give up his ring that gives him his power on earth? An evil sorceress tells himif you remove 10,000 blocks 10,000 more will fall, unless you give up your ring!
George Peed..the character designer for"The Mighty Hercules"TV Cartoons..he also design the cover art for the rerelease of "The Three Stooges"storytelling record..produced and released thru "Peter Pan"kids records.
Thank you for posting this. It may be sentimental, but I haven't seen this cartoon since my boyhood dys. All these years later, I still know the theme song. Please post more (if you have them) or direct me to where I can find them. Thanks again for allowing me to escape middle-age and enjoy my youth, although briefly.
I remember watching these"Hercules"TV cartoons weekday evenings and afternoons on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC.John Zacherley was the first to show these films..later..the mc's were:"Officer Joe","Capt.Jack" and Ms.Carol Corbett.
You sure this Hercules guy is the hero, 25 seconds into the opening & he's already blown up the sun. :T
...
So I finished it & here's what the few characters should do. Newton I'd say was the creepiest & should go die, Zeus needs a more deeper manlier voice, Hercules is a lie & should get a new hobby, Helena needs to be less of a wimp, & Daedalus...he needs to shave his mustache & beard, he should also get a new hobby as well.
@animemangalover08 I like the way he uses my state capital as a victory call. As for Daedalus, I think I recall eps where he flew like Superman. I thought he & his son Icarus used wax enforced wings to fly.
@ShortySOM Yes it is. Who was your favorite character? Mine was Newton when he said "Suffering Psyche". There was an Old Episode where he was voiced by another character, and he almost burned his tail and he started screaming, I fell on the floor laughing at that one. Hey did you ever see The Great Santa Robbery. It was also a Canadian Cartoon as well.
After all these years, I thought this had been dead and buried. I prayed for it to have been dead and buried. I hated that freaking centaur character so bad, I always wanted to see him end up falling over a cliff onto the jagged rocks below. I'm just sayin'.
omg.this is the worst cartoon ever.hercules is like a super man and in the office there are a pappers that in ancient mythological greece they donn't exist. -.-
maybe the story is good but the clothes resembles to more newest years -.-
Boy talking about T.V. influencing kids. I'm African American, when I was a kid, we would wake up on Saturday Mornings, eat Cheerios Cereal and then go watch Hercules. Afterward we would slick our hair back with pomade and make a curl in the front and play "Hercules" - Damn I laugh just thinking about it. This was back in 1966, 1967. I also remember our neighbor getting an Album called "Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" and we were laughing at the Album title. Boy memories.
@mazzapazz That's Johnny Nash - He also sings "I can see clearly now the rain has gone" 1970 I believe when that came out. Went to see him in a concert back in '71 with a group called David Gates and Bread. That was at PMC now Widener College.

Ah, well, life reshapes us as we go along.
