@heckifikno No, it is not Blu-ray quality, but it is quite superior to the vast majority of videotape footage I have seen taken prior to the mid to late 80s. There is no color degradation/discoloration, no degradation/warping of the picture, and the tracking distortion at the bottom is barely noticeable.
@Skull10 To be fair to the vid, Beta was available in 80. Including magnetic tape. The quality of beta was superior to vhs. Missing , if it is beta, is the dotted bar at the bottom of the screen. White and black dots that helped older machines track the tape correctly, However, not all machines put the monikers on the visibile part of the tape. Honestly haven't found anything conclusive to discredit the tape but I think the poster is responsible for verifying it's validity.

the premise is ok, but they could have aged the footage better, its clearly digital. if they had the budget to hire all the 80s furnishings etc they could have gone to the extra trouble of hiring a proper 35mm film camera. also, they could have picked a tv show that actually existed, and perhaps chose the name of a man who was living at that time. oh, and the acting is a bit poor at the end, aside from that, its a fair attempt that im sure will fool a lotta people.

Mtv's inception was a pop channel, they only played what the teens of the day were listening to but By 82 or 83 they had an hour of alternate rock, r&b, and what they refered to as counter cultrure. Since the vast majority of cities did not allow cable television, the audience of the cable systems was mostly suburanites. MTV was only playing to their demographics, nothing more. Ridiculous assumption that they purposefully tried to keep anyone off the air.

For all the doorknobs here who keep squawking about the quality - they HAD videotape in the eighties. Europe has always been way ahead of Americans on everything, particularly the clothing styles. The guy predicts a 'nuclear disaster' in Russia in that decade, which is like predicting "it's gonna rain"...pretty much a GIVEN. The rest, magnetic cars, flying cars...the guy read Arthur C. WHAT A HOAX!! The video is made in VERY HIGH DEFINITION for 1980 (just mouse over the "tools" icon on bottom of video) - this is a digitally recorded video & in 1980 they didn't have that!! . Also the guy living in USA for 20 years should have been speaking quite well in english & he looks too young for his age according to the timeline of video. Besides I lived in 1980's & I know what videos looked like at the time. People weren't interested much in 2012 at all at the time.

When all of the highly dubious elements of this are put into conjunction, it should be obvious to anyone who isn't ignorant, gullible, or a denier of facts, that this is a mediocre hoax.

@heckifikno No, it is not Blu-ray quality, but it is quite superior to the vast majority of videotape footage I have seen taken prior to the mid to late 80s. There is no color degradation/discoloration, no degradation/warping of the picture, and the tracking distortion at the bottom is barely noticeable.

@Skull10 To be fair to the vid, Beta was available in 80. Including magnetic tape. The quality of beta was superior to vhs. Missing , if it is beta, is the dotted bar at the bottom of the screen. White and black dots that helped older machines track the tape correctly, However, not all machines put the monikers on the visibile part of the tape. Honestly haven't found anything conclusive to discredit the tape but I think the poster is responsible for verifying it's validity.
