  • I can clearly see that there's alot more input lag on the LCD. I'd personally use the CRT, solely for their awesomeness!

  • lol why did you turn vsync on, that means it's limited to 60fps anyway

  • @Jammymanrock No. If the monitor can go all the way to 120fps and the graphic card is strong enough, it will lock to 120.

  • @Umbra360 But with and hdmi cable will it support more than 60frames per second?

  • @Ryosuke1208 Only DVI cables with all pins will support 120fps.

  • @Umbra360 and DisplayPort

  • Not sure why you did this because your camera is only 30 FPS

  • still using crt here.

    22" viewsonic G220fb.

    LCd sucks the bag

  • Yes ... and how are you going to see the difference on 60 hz monitors with youtube screen ? :)

  • @7cevz9 hahahha :D

  • Are old school CRT monitors like that old peice of shit in the video really considered good for gaming in this day and age??!! Seriously? Do any of you still game on an old CRT just like this 1??

  • @lamiac2411 CRT's are actually better than ALL lcd's for gaming belive it or not. (not that i use a CRT becuase they are fucking huge, but they are better)

  • @lamiac2411 Analog is still WAY infront of digital, and even the best of digital doesnt come close to the best of analog. Long time before it will too.

  • @lamiac2411 YES. LCDs lag.

  • CRTs still can't beat the practicallity of a sleeker LCD which takes up less space. We can't see the difference from the video because CRTs can't be a captured in video very well.

  • There is no sense of depth at LCD monitors! (Unlike CRT monitors)

also your use CRT monitor as if problematic.

  • This would be a good test if the CRT wasn't a shitty CRT. My CRT never flickered like that, at even lower refresh-rates. However, LCDs are starting to step it up.

  • @robertclarke0 It doesn't flick. It's the way the CRT's refresh each image and the way the camera films that makes it look like it's "flimering".

  • @sKratch1337

oh i see now. did not know. thx :)

  • And to people born after 1990: they do not flicker like that in real life dammit. There is zero flickering noticeable whatsoever even when it's at 60hz, nevermind 85hz or 120hz. I am telling you, ZERO, you can not perceive it.

  • @RaniaIsAwesome That kind of flickering from CRT is only visible when caught on tape. However, from having a long history of CRT gaming, I disagree with you that 60 hz vs 120 hz on a CRT monitor (assuming the FPS follows the hz) has no noticable difference. Show me a CRT monitor, start any FPS game with vsync enabled and I can tell you the FPS until it reaches about 100+.

  • @sondrek With vsync enabled? lol. FPS in games is a lot different to FPS on the screen. In games it's inherently tied to the game engine, it's often tied to the whole game mechanics. That's why FPS is noticeably better in games. The reason vsync is used is so that your monitor and game refresh at the same time.

  • This uploader is retarded. CRTs only look like that when taken with a digital video camera because the camera cannot keep up with the monitor. The colour looking off is due to limitations in the video capture also, if it looked like this in real life he could just change the red/blue settings on the monitor!!!!

  • Lol you have to tell me that the camera record at more then 60fps?

  • to 30 people, fuck you! crt monitors are great for gaming!

  • @mickyd110011 Great for anything really, just that they are HUGE compared to other monitors. You are fooling yourself when saying that it is BETTER. You prefer it, though it isn't better.

  • @mickyd110011 maby, but they kill your eyes, that's for sure.

  • @stryke92 true, but my crt had a great refresh rate, so i had less headaches with it. sadly, my crt monitor actually died on me last night, and now im depressed... :(

  • CRT with High resolution gave 30 to 60 FPS, Medium resolution gave 60 to 90FPS, and low Resolution gave a whooping 1350 FPS.

The Resolution, Refresh Rate, Number of Colors, and Video Card Settings became more important on a newer flat screen than on an older CRT monitor.

In terms of speed and performance the newer flat screens still do not perform as fast as desired even if the images are clearer, are thinner, and they use less energy.

  • The CRT's usually have a much higher FPS , response time, and refresh rate.

A brand new LED screen handling 60 Hertz average between to 75 Hertz but no higher than 75 Hertz, while CRT handling 60 Hertz to 72 or 75Hertz just fine can go higher, and producing great frame rates.

LED with the higher resolution with new video card produced 11 to 24 FPS Average and when resolution lowest accepted by game went to 24 to 93 FPS.

  • that screen flickering is killing my eyes!!!

  • @SuperMakee The flickering is related to the refresh rate and page flipping and camera recording the video's shutter speed, the CRT matches the flourescent lighting speed like a spinning fan, which the LCD/LED screens will match the camera's shutter speed more at a rate that the screen can be recorded better on.

When they made the Plasma and TFT screens they compared flickering and refresh rates to try and eliminate flickering which also caused problems for tv, news, and movie making.

  • @SuperMakee You'll notice similiar issue with lighting itself, if in dark lighted room and the light of monitor is too strong how the brightness of the screen will make images too bright and at different angles especially with auto adjusting light cameras which nearly all are now.

  • pretty sure CRT's have a higher response time than most LCD's, that'll benefit in fps gaming situations

  • will ati radon 5670 conect with CRT monitor???

  • People tend to forget that CrT's used to SUCK ASS... I've been gaming since the early days.. and I remember many problems with earlier monitors.. Burn in, motion blur etc.. They got good after many generations and advancements.. So yeah, a fully developed technology will have advantages over a relatively new one.

  • @bliglum

Are you sure, you used premium 19"< Trinitrons / Diamondtrons? Mainly Eizo, IBM, iiYama, Sony, some DELL monitors? At 100 / 120 Hz ofc (or even after color calibration).

For me, it's 24"</= S-IPS panel. But a proper professional CRT is always good at home.

  • @Qlshdr and the sony GDM-FW900

  • okay okay okay!

LCD = Stlye and this monitor incase runs at 120hz so does the CRT but mate, what happens when i mate comes over and ur still playing on a brick monitor that are discontinued. First thing in his head will be "Your Poor?" 2. Your a Geek 3. You have never been laid.

CRT = Good because of the 120hz

    or..........

LCD = 120hz Style and reverse all that other shit i said u will be normal ;)

    Goodluck.

  • another thing, CRT takes longer to light up than LCD.

  • Counterstrike man all I do is camp and hide and then I've gotten banned from allot of the CS server.

  • are you playing counter strike? man I caused lot of trouble in the game because all I do is camp and hide, and do nothing and then I got banned from the server. thats what gay about having admin on duty.

  • song name?

  • CRT is goddamn awesome, fuck all LCDs. If you are a CS player, you MUST get a cheap CRT -freq 120 will work on every CRT monitor.

  • Comment removed

  • the crt sure is shit compared to actual monitors

  • @Shinjeez CRT will always be better than anything, but suck-hard gamers prefer LCD and keep sucking.

  • @killy731 crt better for what? it looks shit if compared to the other monitor as you see in this video... but if you prefer crt, then do as you wish

  • ctr has darker blacks than lcd i still got my 14in view sonic ..i have a lcd collecting dust on the shelf of rejected toys

  • what about my refresh rate? and the video's FPS? LOL

  • hey, guys I need help.

I have 2233rz@120hz and I want to use it with my nvidia gtx560 with miniHDMI card slot. What should I buy to have 120hz with HDMI? Any difference DVI and HDMI on 120hz? Thanks!

  • @tibiawmz i dont think HDMI can go to 120hz, but i may be wrong, look @ google

  • no seas pendejo jajaja

  • By far the Trinitrons are the best. I was lucky enough to get 2 Trinitrons for free. They are currently both used for gaming.

  • @mrlichenstein Ha Ha, i have one. Its very old and only about 20" SD display, but its very good at with video games. This other, very old aswell, tv always flickers or turns off when i game. :D

  • I'm already wearing glasses so hey , i'm up for the challenge of using CRT all my life .

  • If only companies could manufacture CRT monitors again. Flat panel technology still can't come close to CRTs in terms of gaming. Flat panels suck at resolution scaling and the response time of LCDs can't even touch CRTs in response time after 15+ years of advancements. Plasmas pretty much can't be found in sizes below 42" unless you get lucky. I'd trade in my 22" 1080p LCD TV for a 17" CRT anyday.

  • Im glad we are finnaly away from horrible CRTs. They gave me a every time headache!

  • @WNxAtlas No wonder guys with CRT pawns . Well just saying

  • ViewSonic P225f

    :p

    The best CRT monitor!

  • Так то всё зависит от разрешения самого монитора.

  • I didn't know high refresh rate was so crucial until I saw people mopping the floor in quake 3 and walked over to see their CRT running milky smooth compared to nearly everyone else's monitors. Also VSynch creates less input lag at higher refresh rates. I barely notice it at 150HZ, but tearing is so minimal I leave it off just for that little extra responsiveness. When you're shooting moving targets, refresh rate is crucial to your ability to follow subtle changes quickly.

  • The fact that you can't see the value of 120hz over an internet video on your 60hz LCD impedes consumer demand and thus production volume which makes them more slowly come down in price. You have to see high refresh yourself in person with a high FPS output game, preferably a slightly old fast paced 3d shooter, like Team Fortress 2. You can easily tell the difference, believe me. Turning corners is smoother and you are more quickly aware of what's there.

  • The average person cannot see anything over 60fps so whether its 120 or 300 fps they wont notice any difference. In refresh rates people sometimes can notice flickering or get eye strain but thats not the norm. Ive ran games at 300Ffps on a 240Hz LED and It looked just as good as 60 fps on a 120hz LCD and a 60Hz.LCD. CRT require more of a refresh rate so its not so noticeable. LCD and new tv/monitors dont seem to have that problem. CRT always flicker when recording. LCD/LED dont seem to do that.

  • @hydroshocksunwell Thats a myth just like eyes or computers for that matter perceivable frame-rate is only limited by the person watching it. I can tell you alot of people do notice a tremendous difference. This is not a questionable observation that could just simply be a placebo effect.

  • @hydroshocksunwell - that's because the way a CRT screen refreshes is very different from an LCD. A CRT redraws the entire screen at whatever your refresh rate is per second. An LCD only changes the pixels that actually change

  • Is that CRT really at 120Hz? It flickers too often.

  • @1blue1 It has to do with the refresh rate of the camera being used vs the refresh rate of the monitor. In person if that CRT is truly running at 120Hz it would be hard to tell the screen was flickering.

  • 120Hz is really good and smashes 60Hz out of the water. After playing 120Hz, you can't see shit on 60Hz since 120Hz is so good.

  • CRT=Better colour fidelity, blacks with shadow detail, multiple native resolutions, more SD content friendly, and great response time.

The only thing that can pull me from my CRT is a big Plasma TV.

  • @Zecifer Plasmas are terrible! LEDs are the way to go.

  • @Cyanide89

    Yeah, whatever.

See one side by side. LEDs are too sharp (SD looks horrible), colors are cold and washed out and blacks are crushed. Plus they're more expensive. I'll pass on LCDs and LEDs.

  • @Zecifer Who would play in SD and not at native resolution...?

  • @Lvl71Turtle

Someone who doesn't have a pc that has specs up to a specific game, also for SD content like DVDs and less than 720p Youtube videos.

  • @Cyanide89 You do know what the difference between LED And LCD is right? They are both LCD monitors one uses led to back light it and the other uses CCFL back lighting.

  • @Cyanide89 whats wrong with Plasmas that some of the brand has Discontinue?

  • @Zecifer try an oled

  • @Zecifer 2ms isn't going to kill you... Besides, the new 120hz screens have a much warmer colour generally and just looks 1000x better than any CRT.

  • Is that game even in 120?

  • Thats is so stupid hahaha that game should be 30 FPS so you do no notice the difference so funny VS hahaha

  • @Drkcriam Not really, it's not what you SEE, it's how the game FEELS, a game running @ 120 FPS is far SMOOTHER, FASTER, and more RESPONSIVE Than one running @ 30 FPS. Especially when play ing the faster games like Quake series.

  • CRT is where it's at.

  • @malwerius my lcd hd monitor only lasted 3 years hyundai hd. My old crt monitor is still going after 10 years. In general high resolution large screen lcd monitors dont last much longer than 3 years. you will find the lower resolution ones will with smaller screens

  • 2233RZ is better

  • crt fucking sucks. even if crt is faster atleast lcd doesnt rape your eyes

  • @malwerius yeah lcds are also good we just got a bad one

  • the crts work better than the lcds. our lcd tv is 5 years old and its broken. our old crt tv is 25 years old and works awsome fine.

  • @MrCarmani12 - keep in mind CRT tech has been around MUCH longer than LCD tech, and your CRT was manufactured at a time before China was making everything as cheaply as possible with the cheapest components possible, unlike your LCD.

  • @bloody2k You are a retarded fucking idiot. CRT flickers because it goes through the entire screen extremely fast while LCD only changes the screen piece by piece with lag. The human eye can only detect this effect when you put it on another display so you obviously only noticed this when you played back the difference and are deliberately trying to mislead people, clown.

  • the css started before on the crt wich means crt=faster response

  • isn't it fun that i can use my 10 years old ass 19"crt monitor with 3D glasses since it can reach 120Hz up to 1280x1024p, with much faster response time and flawless blacks and colors without native resolution issue, while whoever dropped it for an LCD in these years, has to buy a new one AGAIN to benefit of 3D with less performance?

  • 1. I had no Idea CRTs could have 120hz

    2. The CRT is interlaced, which is why it is flickering

    3. How come you didn't enable v -sync on the CRT?

    4. What are the resolutions of both screens?

    5.LCD WINS

  • @Ninjadude973 lcd won because of his shit ass camera.

  • @Ninjadude973 it's flickering because it's being recorded, not interlaced

  • How do these compare with a classic 100hz CRT? are there any noticable differences when playing a game like CS / CSS on 100FPS..... I'm tired of 75 HZ LCD's :(... But I dont want half my room taken up by an old CRT! Do these perform as well as a 100hz CRT? I dont care about colours or viewing angles - I would pay 100's to get an LCD that can perform as well as my old CRT!

  • and now make nice looking crt monitors, lol

  • its not about seeing over 60 hertz you can deffinetly feel t he difference on fps games like 1.6 and i can also see the difference from 60 to 120 hertz on my crt from 60 to 75 is the big change at 60 there is alot of flicker thats bad on the eyes

  • CRT is better

    CRT-то е по-добре няма спор

  • Im watching this on a 60hz monitor

I cant tell difference... and the video is encoded at 25fps so this comparison is uberly stoopidly useless...

  • the human eye cannot see faster than 60fps, those people who say they can are blowing smoke out their ass

  • @KingofTheMafia Yes we can, the human eye can see an image if it's on for atleast 1/200 second. So we can see 200 fps.

  • @KingofTheMafia you dont know shit. you blow smoke of your ass. stupid monkey

  • @ThePalazor yes, we are all monkeys

  • Why the %&¤! would he enable v-sync? It limits the fps to 30...

  • so the grey one is better

  • @Ehal256 you wont bother with a long reply because you cant prove it. sorry.

  • you are so lucky to have got the monitor. I can't seem to find one that i can buy they are all sold out and samsung isn't making anymore of these.

  • @waterflowzz there are other brands with better 120 hz screens now

  • Samsung, ftw.

  • No veo ninguna diferencia vayanse al carajo metanse el 3d al poto, me conformo con un PX2370 HIJOS DE PUTA. GANTENSE LA PLATA EN PUTAS.

  • what's the name of the music please ?

  • I got a used sony GDM-F520 a month ago (in the top 3 sony monitors. Could be considered second or third best, depending on if you prefer a 2048x1536 monitor or 2304x1440 one)

I gotta tell you, starting out my career with LCDs, I had no idea. This CRT is pure sex. When it dies, I'll cry.

  • your crt has too much blue. crt.s last for ever.

  • he doesnt know how to play counter strike

  • 210482. you must have received lcd monitor or more than one of them that the settings were not properly calibrated or received a faulty unit ( which there is between 2% to 10% chance overall). otherwise you need to your eyes checked. I HAVE PLAYED games like the original Prince of Persia ( popular or semi popular in 2004 ) on a 17 " crt ( gaming) quality Viewsonic Monitor then went right back to playing it on my older 19" lcd. the lcd beat the crt's LACk of color saturation, rez, & quality.

  • Maybe Not See But Feel !!!

  • in some ways its a shame crt has been pushed out by lcd. ITs mainly taken over because of the space saving design. I seriously dont think we should of stopped manacturing crt monitors. games just dont look the same on lcd compared to crt. Lcd interfered with a well laid plan

  • @210482fmj LOL. what well laid plan? to keep us at crappy contrast ratio and resolution ages? no thanks. Yeah..i admit. 120hz was on crt monitors first well before lcd and lcd with led backlit but either way. there is no way in heaven hell or whatever people call this life that I would play starcraft 2 on even a 22 " crt (* which my cousin's friend had in college at MC in Ms Back in early 2000's) much less an ever better game metro 2033. You have fun with that. not me.

  • @chronofusion every modern lcd screen i see produces grainy video compared to an old crt. if crt was still manafactured it would be capable of surpassing lcd with technology improvments.

  • @UbiqutiosComplacenC the human eye CAN NOT see a difference between 60 and 99999999999999 fps, so its virtually impossible, sorry. You would NOT notice a difference if the screen hertz and the fps wasnt showing on a screen with 60 hertz and 60 fps, and on a screen with 120 hertz and 200 fps or more. Dont pretend you know shit, because you DO NOT.

  • @lolfyfan ok bottom line. If you have either an hdmi cable or dual link dvi cable from a ( for example ) gtx 580 video card to a REAL 120hz monitor and you're playing at 1920x1080 with 120hz turned on also in the game metro 2033 with eye candy settings on low or medium I'LL BET YOU my 10 years of life savings that UNLESS YOU REALLY DO HAVE BAD EYE SIGHT there is NOT way YOU WOULDN'T notice difference. yeah more than 120hz MAY be overkill & pointless. Depends on future tech.THAT i agree with

  • @chronofusion HDMI does not work with 120 Hz, you need to use dual link DVI cable. I agree 120 fps is compared to 60 fps, what 60 hz can do.

  • @u235u235u235 LOL. you're absolutely full of SHIT kid. I know for a FACT that it DOES work and yes the fps DOES exceed 100 fps because I TESTED it myself. You obviously have put zero thought into this argument just like your youtube id. Move on kid. I dont have time to waste correcting the mistakes of your laziness to research properly let alone field test something.

  • @chronofusion You can insult me, but do a google search yourself. You need to use Dual Link DVI to get 120 fps to kick in, HDMI will give you 120 Hz/fps. I believe DP also can do 120 Hz, but you'd have to double-check that. Insulting me does not make you right. A simple google search will prove you wrong and is welcome anyone readign this to google that current HDMI does not support 120hz/fps, you should use dual link DVI.

  • @chronofusion I mistyped some text. Dual Link DVI supports 120Hz, HDMI does not support 120Hz. Google search it, don't take my word for it. And seriously don't insult people when they disagree with you.

  • @lolfyfan how do i know...THAT'S EXACTLY HOW I GAME. at more than 100 fps per second now in all my games. UNLESS i turn on all eye candy in metro 2033 maxed out. then it's around 90 max fps per sec and can dip to 65 under heavy fighting. I have the 23.6 inch Acer monitor( in the video with Linus when he review gtx 590 & partially reviewed 6990 *flicker issue* on crysis 2). Runs great. Honestly haven't tried hdmi yet. just dual link dvi for now.buy it and test it out for yourself. only way

  • @lolfyfan I won't bother with a longer reply, but that's completely false.

  • Comment removed

  • @woodyfly you cannot see a visual difference between 60 and 100 fps.

  • @lolfyfan Not without a 120hz monitor you can't. If you're trying to see a difference with a regular monitor it won't happen. You need a 120hz. And not a fake "120hz" TV, a real 120hz monitor. If your video card is putting out over 100fps and your monitor is 120hz and you still don't see a difference, you have bad eyesight and/or faulty perception. Also realize you have to go to settings and actually set it to display 120hz, it isn't just plug and play. Too many idiots saying you can't see it.

  • Блъди, мога ли да видя разлика м-у 60 и 100 кадъра на 60Hz монитор?

  • No doubt that the 2233RZ has better contrast and noticable better colouring, but as a high skilled CSS player i must say that irl the difference between 120hz on a 2233RZ of CRT is very very small. I personally even prefer CRT because you can get a CRT monitor for like free and the LCD's start at 250..

  • The LCD looks much better. CRT's are pretty much crap, and they've had it.

  • @JoeyJoeJoe5000 Better in what? Definition? it's worst! Color deep? worst! brightness? worst Life Time?Worst! I can break an LCD with my fucking nails, how stupid is that?... Go punch some CRT Tv/monitor and see Who gets Broken! My LCD only lasted one year. Still.... My CRT screen (From 1991,older than me) keeps going! LCD,Best? LOL
  • @ADevilNeverCry CRT's are WAY too heavy and bulky, and take up too much space (especially with 21" and larger screens), also widescreen CRT's are extremely rare if none existent. And they become blurry after a while. LCD's aren't perfect, but neither are CRT's. Even TN LCD panels today look amazing. It's very easy to not break LCD's, just don't hit, or press the screen.

  • CRT WIN!

  • face it, CRT's are dead.

  • Comment removed

  • notice the spent shells at around 1:23 on the CRT there is only 1 at a time (2 in some cases) but on the LCD there is 3 at a time (2 at best) showing that the LCD is in fact a bit slower than the CRT..

  • The problem with trying to show everyone how "LCD is better than CRT" on camera is that it is impossible to capture the true video quality of CRT on cam. If the refresh rate on the monitor and the camera don't sync up PERFECTLY then it looks like shit, like it does here. My CRT monitor still has yet to be beat as far as color quality, black level, and pixel density, and my friend has tried several times to show it up with his LCD. I also have a CRT HDTV that you can't beat.

  • the one on the left has a horrible flashing too it... how can you stand that?

  • @Amanntube That's a product of the camera. It doesn't look like that in person.

  • @AnalogRocks oic well you should show some tests or whatever to compare them cuz other than one looks nice on your desk and the other doesnt I dont see any real reason why you would want the ancient brick on your desk :)

  • @Amanntube CRT's rock I can't stand LiquidCrystalDisaster screens. No black level, scaling artifacts, lag.

Not for me. When you have the Sony CPD-G520P on your desk any LCD looks like crap. Why would I downgrade? ...and don't give me that line about saving desk space or how much they weigh. My desk is big enough and I don't move my monitor around.

  • @AnalogRocks I dont think the benefits outweigh the disadvantages of an LCD even as a professional gamer the input lag or whatever might be the case would be unnoticable even to the quickest games imo but I dunno

  • @Amanntube ur aware some professional cs players quit because of the LCD monitors.......examples heaton and spawn.....they said them selfs the 75 hz refresh was too slow the game was too laggy.......which is why they teamed up with BenQ to design a LED monitor that was able to produce 120 hz .....crts are much much better to game on and when it comes to cs i prefer the 120hz over the 75hz

  • @kosta1605 well I understand that but thats why theres 120hz LEDs now

  • I had a CRT die on me a few weeks ago. It was old enough to vote!

  • i have that CRT model

  • looks the same.

  • what is v-sync

  • the video is probably 30 fps so u cant tell the difference from where ;)

  • People who can't tell the difference between 60 vs 100 fps and 60 vs 120 hz are born to be shitty gamers.

  • @woodyfly Most people doesnt have a computer able to make them use the small difference between 60 and 120hz ;) You gain about .1 seconds in FPS games and the 120Hz monitors we have today uses TN panels = crap colours. So if you want a good alround monitor Id rather go for a IPS panel one with less refresh rate then a TN panel one with higher. That is, unless you are competing in a high speed FPS game where every millisecond could mean win/lose.

  • @woodyfly

    So true.

  • @woodyfly lol yeah a load of people are saying unless you use the 3d these arent worth the money, but i play CSS and I take it seriously, the smoother gameplay will help alot xD

  • Comment removed

  • @woodyfly why? Do you really see a diference? you are real special

  • @rocm

Yep, it's like night and day. Only amateurs can't pick up the difference.
