I really like it... It seems like the kinda knife I'd bring with me If I was going to the army. Because it can open cans, but cloth, chizel things... widdle. It just seems like a really cool knife.
I would think that tip and the angle it sits at would be pretty kerambit like in function. It would just tend to slash and gash then hook and rip. I'm not a tactical person at all so I could be completely wrong. lol I would actually like to get one of these for my tool bag. I can't see myself knife fighting anytime soon (or ever lol), but I agree it would make for a great tool.
He claims that knife is "not great for piercing at all." However the website gramknives dot commy shows under "Razel Facts" where he put that same kind of knife through a regular insulated steel door. It looks like it pierces just fine and would work like a Kerambit just fine. I think in the right hands that knife would be just as deadly of a combat knife as any, plus it can be a good utility knife as well.
overall not a bad review, i will be getting one or the shorter straght eadged verson, but id like to point out that u can stab with it if u look on the graham knives website they point out that u can stab though a steel door with it, so i have no dubt that if used wright it will go thought human flesh no probelm.
I love this freaking knife. I don't know what it is with me and unusual blades but I just find them so attractive. Definitely on my to get list. Would you say it would make a good neck knife considering the weight? Does it stay in the sheath or does it fall out easy?
I want a knife maker to make blade like the razel, but in a tactical/fighting version. Karambits are too curved for my taste, would like a straight ringed knife. With reverse grip, a ring blade would be awesome for a really fast draw, and fast stabbing action.
I just received my Stubby Pocket Razel today, CL. Its very small but a quality job the whole way; the chisel, to me, is a brilliant option and seems to be an indispensable bushcraft second knife! Think of the push-cutting potential. Great design. I give it a 10! Very nice Micarta handles too.
I'm in. I just ordered the standard CRKT Razel (no ring) and the Stubby folding version, too. These things look to be killer. That chisel would be an outstanding addition to a bushcraft kit.
I just got this knife a week ago and the "Secondary" tip chiped off while i was cutting cord from around a branch--using a reverse-grip stabbing motion. So beware of that, I wouldnt pry with this knife for fear of further damaging the tips.
You mention not really needing the reverse grip, since the knife's stabbing abilities are limited. I thought exactly the same thing when I first saw one of these, but if you check out the Razel section at the Graham Knives website, it shows one of the Graham bros. stabbing one through a steel door using the reverse grip (lol). Check it out. Thanks for yet another great review, btw.
This is another one of those knives (like the modified sheepsfoot on the BM griptillian w/spydy-hole) where the first time I looked at it I thought "Eah! It's crap" the second time I looked at it I thought "Welllll......" and then the fourth or fifth time I looked at I though "Damn! It's grown on me. I have to get one!" It's funny how that happens like that with some knives.
I agree knivers are for cutting, BUT this specific knife can take more abuse than regular designs, its built thicker for that reasosn and the steel choice was decent to be used for prying..
@cutlerylover This knife looks like it belongs with spyderco. I just dont find those knifes appealing to me at all. But I guess it is a second type of cool or you just like it or you don't
CRKT may call that filework, but I seriously doubt they have people hand file each blade, and since filework must be done by hand, it would be decorative jimping, unless of course they actually do hand file it.
Filework has to be done by hand to be called filework, or so say most knifemakers and knife encyclopedias.
Hate to correct you, but that is something that I am harsh on is the difference between Jimping and Filework.
the intention is for it to be filework, in appearance, but I too doubt its done by ahnd, so I guiess the proper term is faux filework...but its not intended to be jimping at all...
@cutlerylover now that I got one, I found the "filework/jimping" is actually pretty functional if you dig your thumb on it at an angle like maybe when using it like a scraper
I'd like to have a version of this knife without the ring, but also had a slightly longer handle on it. I don't like how the ringed version feels because I don't use the ring, but the non ringed version feels like it's too small for my triple-extra large hand. :/
Not great for piercing??? Look at Graham knives website. This is a good tactical knife. Jimmy locks, pry open doors/windows, and you CAN stab with it.
well with a hammer or other heavy object you could pounbd it into stuff, but with the force of your hand you wont get throuhg hard thigns like solid wood to great...but ywah youi cna really beat on it!
@cutlerylover having a ring in the handel dubles your penitration power, but i also wana point out having that solid lower tip means that thing will go though ribs and coller bones with suffisant force "witch most people can porvide when needed", so softer flesh is no problem, but i could see how it could be an awkard tatical knife for some.
@cutlerylover i've watched a video i believe it was on graham knives website , and the designer/maker penetrates a thick wooden door with it ! so ... it only doesn't seems so cause ure used of useing a point for stabbing :)
Such a specific kind of knife, it just doesn't interest me. Still an entertaining video. Well done. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day too. Take care.
For example a fighting knife could easily(usually) be used for utility tasks and vice versa. However, this knife would not be good for fighting because stabbing is limited. It's a fixed blade so it's not as portable as it could be. And if you think about it, a knife with a real tip can also be used to scrape as cutler lover describes, while also retaining the ability to penetrate/stab. This knife is designed around a very specific task : chiselling.
good points. not as portable as a folder, but it's good to have the str of a fix blade in a heavy work knife. While you lose the fine point tip...you can cut, scrap, chisel, and (dare I say) pry.
For fighting, yes, this is not a fighting knife. That said, I could defend myself with this knife. The ring could make an impact point for punches or hammer blows. And a chisel stab is actually more divesting then a sharp point stab. Tho it may have a harder time against very thick clothing.
That's actually a really nice looking knife! I probably wouldn't be able to use it much myself but it sure could be handy to a lot of people I know. Thanks for another good review Jeff!
the graham logo at 3:48, i thought immediatley of the barrel(sp?) of a gun with the front sight on top, and the black part being the inside of the barrel
for the decorative part on the spine of the blade (the part that you called NOT jimping in the annotation) remind me of the jaguar classic balisong serrations.....
hollow ground is where the sides of the blade are ground inwards in a circular shape, if you look down the blade from the point, you can see that the sides curve inwards instead of going straight down to the cutting edge.
Yeah man, I really dig that sheath with the clip, I'm going to look around for something with the same sheath system but maybe a little cheaper, I just really can't justify 60-70$ on a knife atm.
Not really too important, but I read in some interview that the Graham Brothers stress the pronunciation of the Razel line as "ray-zel"--because it's apparently the love-child of a razor and chizel. Also you've probably already been told this, so appologies for that. Good video, as always.
Thats the first time i see a blade like this. Really weird, its like a mini chopping knife, but really interesting too. To be honest i would like to have one!
i do... try not to buy them cheap.. they are garbage.. for a good one i might have to spend atleast a 100.. i'd rather get one that holds half a razor blade.. don't know what they're called..
CRKT knives are awesome. I picked up a Lake 111 for around €40 about a month ago, and it's absolutely the best one I've ever had. The lock mechanism doesn't wear or budge and the knife has an excellent quality overall. I highly recommend it.
dude .. i dont see how that knife isnt good for defense .. lol that secondary would be fine with a powerful thrust and in the reversed grip it looks like a helluva slasher brother sir.
hey man i love ur vids just wondering have u ever heard of ducksunlimited? and i wold love to be ur friend so =] and also wats the best thing to clean folding knife with? i have a few i need to clean.
Hey man I know this is really off topic for this video but its your newest one and I have a better chance of you responding. I want to get a nice brushed chrome Zippo and then have it engraved for a friend. My question is should I go with a classic Zippo or the Armor plated Zippo, the thicker one? Which in your opinion is nicer? My only fear with the armor one is he wont be able to do tricks with it cause its heavier, but if thats not the case than I think I'll go with it. Please respond, thanks
As far as weight goes the armor is significantly heavier than normal ones..so if he is big on tricks I would personally go for a regular Zippo vs. the Armor one. You have to think whats the bigger priority A) A Zippo for him to do tricks with or B) A Zippo more for personal meaning and display
I like the look of it, but I wouldn't use it, would just be too awkward. But I like it. Hopefully one day they release a drop point/reverse tanto version of it
another way you could look at the tip things would be if the secondary cutting edge was kind of like a sharpened swedge. thus making the primary tip where the two cutting edges meet. idk just another way of thinking.
On first glance I thought, "omg what a horrible looking piece of crap". However, after your review and a little thought about the POU, I could see that as being quite a handy tool for EDC. It could also be handily employed as a defensive blade using Shotokan style defensive strikes.
Jimping? its sort of like a serration on the handle (or other part of a knife, where your hand may need to rest) that increases the grip greatly, if executed properly. it is especially important during thrust attacks.
wish i had this when i worked for that moving company

makes sense though, I was wondering what a saw would be doing there, seems kind of inconvenient . . .
but I was hoping for a saw :/

Hey man I know this is really off topic for this video but its your newest one and I have a better chance of you responding. I want to get a nice brushed chrome Zippo and then have it engraved for a friend. My question is should I go with a classic Zippo or the Armor plated Zippo, the thicker one? Which in your opinion is nicer? My only fear with the armor one is he wont be able to do tricks with it cause its heavier, but if thats not the case than I think I'll go with it. Please respond, thanks
TylerReed15 2 years ago
As far as weight goes the armor is significantly heavier than normal ones..so if he is big on tricks I would personally go for a regular Zippo vs. the Armor one. You have to think whats the bigger priority A) A Zippo for him to do tricks with or B) A Zippo more for personal meaning and display

I like the look of it, but I wouldn't use it, would just be too awkward. But I like it. Hopefully one day they release a drop point/reverse tanto version of it

Oh, and the Graham Logo is the front end of a gun :P

I really like the look of it, except for that ring at the bottom of the handle.

another way you could look at the tip things would be if the secondary cutting edge was kind of like a sharpened swedge. thus making the primary tip where the two cutting edges meet. idk just another way of thinking.

On first glance I thought, "omg what a horrible looking piece of crap". However, after your review and a little thought about the POU, I could see that as being quite a handy tool for EDC. It could also be handily employed as a defensive blade using Shotokan style defensive strikes.

haha "POU" haha somebody has been watching Nutnfancy... :D

that would make a good divers knife and what the hell is jimping
Juggalo10p 2 years ago
Jimping? its sort of like a serration on the handle (or other part of a knife, where your hand may need to rest) that increases the grip greatly, if executed properly. it is especially important during thrust attacks.
funkyfudge11 2 years ago
A mystical quality of knives that makes nutnfancy warm and excited inside.
No actually it's ridging or bumps which aids in purchase on the blade, generally the thumb.

the top flat end can be used as a chisel, as opposed to a normal knife that does not have that capability
