  • Nice playing on a nice 295!

  • never the less great stuff.. i bet the crowd loved it ! especially those who did not know the song !

  • great job brother and thanks for the tips to improve mine...

  • @quickfreedom ...? did i give you tips?

Anyway just do your stuff. And you'll get there.

Don't try to be like your hero as Mr. Setzer himself says....so I'm stuck on my own level...lol

  • es 295............god i want one

  • what happened to the ending

  • great cover but tell your dad to tune next time ; )

  • @TheLydianRocks that's not my dad

    :P

  • Good Playing! Tastefully done!

  • Super:):)

  • You do no that this was originally written and recorded by Santo Farina and Johnny Farina in 1959. Stelzer merely covered it himself.

  • @CodyCEngdahl yeh i do!

    And it' a great cover.

Did you know Brian's son is named Cody?

    Rock on!

  • @Patsik No, but I wish I could have inherited some of his dad's talent as well, actually I'd some of yours too, for that matter.

  • This is truly an amazing group of guitarist ever in You Tube...You are GREAT performer !! Bravo..

  • VERY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is one of the best live perfomances on YouTube

    Cheers

    Eric - Studio ChinChan

  • Thanx man!

I'm still waiting for Brian Setzer himself to react!!

    :P

  • Fantastic 5*

  • AWESOME!

  • とても良いギターテクニック!

    ギターサウンドに酔いしれた^^

  • hey sounds great! what guitar is that? es175??

  • read the description

  • omg when i heard the drums come in i crapped myself then when i cameback and played the video again i crapped a rainbow! that was freakin crazy :DD

  • you guys are fantastic!!!! awesome shit!!!! a+++

  • Yeah I know, I know....:)

  • when we where young

  • oh look its jerry springer !!!!!

  • @cahillkieran LOL I'll tell him.

    :P

  • this kicked so much ass! great job

  • Well mr. Setzer can kick my ass with his eyes closed. He's the master.

But glad you like it anyway!

    :D

  • this ver is much better i think

  • 5 stars excellent perfect tone

  • Setzer is more flash, bang wallop if that's what someone wants. Funny thing is that Santo and

Johnny were just two very young guys, and

no one has ever done a version that beat their sound.

  • NIIIIICE arangement great sound from the big box, and a really great song. The tune would be nice if re-written with some key modulation maybe ,I'm trying to hear it in my head but I wonder if anyone else may have some ideas.

  • those guitars are huge

  • Man I'd like to play a Gibson Super400 one day.

    17" body!!

    Now that's huge!

  • pretty sure one's a hollow body and the other a semi? not positive. but. yeah!

  • I just watched Brian's own version, and I really have to say I like yours better. Cheers

  • You like mine better?

    So where are my Grammy's??

    :p

    Thanx!

  • I was told they're in the mail.

  • superb tone/playing-loved it

  • Great job, very well done.

  • damn!!! back to the drawing board for me.. Very very cool work...and cool looking band too! Cheers

  • What a great sound and awesome playing. I was just practicing this song and decided to see what other people were doing. Now I really feel like crap. Considering my age (see username), I probably won't live long enough to play like that lol.

  • come on dont be hard on yourself, everything takes time just practice and listen to the song at the same time! u got at least 20 years left to train on this song u be there in at least 1 year i promise ;) take care

  • les paul is about 90 and he still plays gigs :] i know a 103 year old man who rides a bike everyday, drinks and started guitar when he was about 60 and is better than ever :]

  • Thanks for the encouragement.... I'm still working on it. And thanks again for the great video.

  • Great job !!! You sound great !!!

  • nice playing..ordered a epi es295 3 months back and still waiting for delivery!..production problems and being made in usa now etc..cant wait to get it!! anyway keep on rockin....

  • Very nice, great sound

  • Great tone..

  • I really enjoyed hearing that. thx

  • thx pat!

  • Excellant cover guys loved it!

  • well done lads

  • I just bought one from Ebay.Man,the best guitar ever!I also have a Watkins copicat tapedelay and a Fender Bassman 59'.They are together....amazing!!!

  • how much are deez bad boys?

  • I've got the Reissue ES-295 as well. Mine is a '93. Book value on these guitars are over $3500 with the Bigsby now.

Awesome guitar. Wouldn't sell it for anything.

  • :) :)

    $3500??

    That's good news.

I'm not gonna sell mine either anyway. Mine is from 1990. It has some cracks in the finish because of....I don't know. Aging I guess.

All original, P100's, pickguard in the closet, almost traded it for a ES350 from 1990. Glad I didn't. Do you have any pics on the internet of your ES295?

  • Mine has some finish checking started. I think its common after almost 20 years old.

Mine has the 100's as well. Kinda wish I had the true 90's but it is a dream guitar as is.

I Don't have any pics right now, sorry!

  • Nitrocellulose finish. It "checks" from the wood expanding faster than the finish, and because it is much thinner than Poly on most cheaper guitars, it checks much more easily. Its a beautiful thing I've come to appreciate in these great guitars.

  • Awsome Patrick. Right now I'm trying to incorporate slide into Setzer's version. (It's a slow going process trying to make it sound right:)

  • Great. Wish there'd been a bit more gain on the tone, but it was still sweet as hell. Also, is that a Marshall JCM 800? And what is that effects box on top? I have a Line6 Pod XT and a JCM 900. Just curious.

  • Thanks!

Haha, I didn't use the Marshall!

My amp is not filmed. I play a Koch Twintone. My echo comes from an old Digitech pedal. It's combined delay/chorus...or something. The chorus part is working now and then....:)

Sometimes when I hit that switch it just does nothing. But I don't use that anyway.

  • Perfect instrument! That's what Scotty Moore used in 1954 with Elvis!Right?I was searching this model to buy everywhere but i couldn't found! One time i saw one on Ebay for 10,000 $!

Can I ask how did you get it?

Contact me if you wanna sell it!: )

  • Yeah! Scotty used the ES295 and after that the L5. I believe. It was built in 1990, so much cheaper than the original. :) But even the reissues they are still hard to find nowadays. I don't believe Gibson makes them anymore. It doesn't have the P90's but the p100's. Stacked humbuckers. To other users the P90's sound much better, but the sound of these pups are okay with me. Almost traded it one day for a ES350. Thank God I didn't. And sorry........I'm not gonna sell it! :)
  • that was unreal man i like that better then Brian Setzers version his was a little over done and that was just nice and is that a gibson or epiphone sounded great

  • Thanx man!

I believe my copy is not overdone because I haven't reached Setzer's level yet..:)

    Yeah that's a 1990 Gibson ES295.

It still has the "awfull" P100's in it. I played it through a Koch Twintone. Great amp!

I believe it is harder to play than the Gretsch 6120.

The body is almost twice as fatter!

  • yer only asked because of the trem.i have a epiphone es 295 with lindy fralin p90s which really sounds sweet. and yer i was thinking to my self that yours looked fatter then mine but f@#k yer it sounds good i think thats why i like your version better im a bit over that gretsch twang yours is so much creamier

  • That creamier sound has to do with the strings.

I like old strings. They just feel better than new ones. Altough they sound "deather" it still gives me enough bite when needed.

I believe I chance strings about once a year...:)

I tried some Gretsches but they are not mine. I must say they look great and I'm a number 1 Setzer fan. But even Brian played a ES295 with the Honeydrippers.

    And man that rocked!

  • Nice!

  • really well done

    my version butchered the song

  • really well done

    my version butchered the song

  • Just plain amazing I would suggest some side burns. But the music is great and love that guitar.

  • A marvelous song interpreted divinely !

    Excellent. . . .

    5*****

  • Wow! Excellent work. Not an easy feat to cover Setzer's version of Santo and Johnny's Sleepwalk! Very nice and that Gibson reaaly does sing.

  • Great job..I like your version better then Brian Setzers.

  • Huh...you're sure?

I'd feel like a little kid if I ever get the chance to jam with Brian.

  • ya well done nice sound

  • I like it!

  • I'm a Gretsch man through and through, owning several vintage and new reissues, but I gotta tell you, that Gibson SINGS!!! You are a very fluid player, and your version of Sleepwalk is a hybrid bringing many different versions together and it sounds great!

  • Thanx for the kind words.

When I got the 295 in 1990 I almost got me a late 70's blond Country Club.

I went for the 295 with the Bigsby!

Kept it in the case for more than 10 years and finaly went onstage.

It still has the P100's in it.

The amp I use is a Koch Twintone.

I always stayed with Gibson. Although i must say I wouldn't mind having a Gretsch Firebird.

  • Hey Patsik, elegance is the attribute of being unusually effective, simple, with a refined grace and dignified propriety. Well, to my taste, you got to sound better than Brian himself. Congrats!

  • :)

    Thank you!

Do you think Brian Setzer himself ever watches Youtube?

That would be great if he'd see me and all his other fans play his songs.

  • This is not Brian Setzers song it is Santo and Johnnys.

  • I agree about the rythym sounding just a touch out, but the playing is wonderful! and I like the arrangement, cant think of a better way to hear this song. its just right.

  • Great play great tone nice guitar you're a lucky guy and of course great song.

  • yeah yeah yeah!!! isss a greeat song!!!!! i love this cover!!

    albert,From spain

  • nicely played!!

  • very nice, but it would sound nicer if the rhythm guitarrist would play a tuned guitar..

  • Man, I love that! Awesome!!

  • Very Nice playing.. That is such a great tune,I only have one question why not a Gretsch?.................peace

  • Welll....huh...I got it back in 1990. Back then I only could find vintage Gretsches and they were too expensive.

So I got the Gibson with the Bigsby!

    :)

Later I tried many of their reissues, but I never felt at home on any of them. I'm just a Gibson guy.

But I must say if I win the lotery I'll get myself a Firebird!

    They look very nice!

  • Um allthouhg I am a non musician, I'd like to know why Gibsons even solidbodys are more often than not fitted with Bigsbys instead of more compact or "fenderesque" tremolos?

  • I really enjoyed that! Excellent!

  • Well thank you. Thanks everybody else for your kind words.

To me all credits go to Brian Setzer, he's the one I've been stealing from for years.

    And still I'm way behind.

There may be tons of guitar players out there who might "beat" him, but to me Brian's the man!

  • Amazing. you make this look easy.

  • wooooow.... this is not the kind of music i usually listen to, but your playing is so amaazing! you have my respect dude.... not only technically good playing, but great feeling. and, of course, very cool piece of music. thanks for posting this, you got it dude!

  • u were born to play.....good job!

  • holy sh*t.

i'm in awe. i have a lonnnng way to go, that's for sure - and you inspire me. damn fine cover, dude, you have a command of the fretboard I hope to have one day.

  • Very sensitive performance. Great music.

  • Well..what can i say......that was fookin NIIICE!!!!

  • Wow, dude, you nailed Setzer's tone and playing! I even thought you were playing over a play-back, but then realized it was you really.... That was really awesome! Respect!

  • Glad you like it.

Personaly I don't think the sound is a la Setzer at all. Wrong guitar and pick ups! Wrong player haha....

There are so many good covers of Sleepwalk on YouTube! Some are better and some are worst.

But just because of the song, they all sound great!

By the way people, check out raulin for some serious guitar playing!

  • Hi again patsik

Loved this video, you are a brilliant guitarist, hope all is going well with the new band

  • Well thanks!

This is not my new band. We just got together for a gig.

I just started my rockabilly band but so far, no video yet.

  • 1 woord: WAUW!!!!! ik trots op mijn ex-buurman!:) kus patriesje

  • :) :) :)

  • Your playing, both of the guitarist playing is great. Very nice. On the ES-295 do you have flatwounds or rounds? What is the other guitar an ES-225/125 TDC? Is the ES-295 a reissue or vintage?

  • Thanx for your reply.

The 1990 ES295 has roundwounds 0.11's. The other guitar is a ES135 with P100's. I believe it's from the early 90's. It looks a lot like the ones you mentioned. But they are hollow body guitars. This ES135 is a semi.

But I'm sure you knew that.

  • Fantastic performance - very impressive technically and a really nice mood too..

  • trots! wat ben je toch een kunstenaar

    xxx
