I just beat this puzzle on my own, after a few tries It was tough like the microscope puzzle from The 7th Guest (which I solved only once), but eventually I managed to win.
Each move requires thinking steps ahead. Keep track of how much drops you have, and how much drops Stauf has. There are always one or two best options at any given time, so if you carefully check what Stauf could do after your move, and counter it. Try to close him in as much as possible, so his movements are limited

Walkthrough was made in Notepad, so the wrap around is distorting it, but it's still readable.
Also added a link for the diagram of the game just above the walkthrough too.
