nothing like eating some weeds that were growing right next to that car's tail pipe. it probably is filled with chemicals b/c when they start their car up in the AM its cold and all the exhaust builds up behind the car on the ground right where the weeds grow...
My eyes are open, I can see it blow in the wind, with my eyes closed and not physical, I feel it beating across my skin, means the realist thing is the unseen, you want 2 “CLICK MY NAME” 2 know what I mean, it is no secret for I HAVE FOUND IT!
I have 2 dogs. They have their old spots and their "new spots." If you do what this person does, you may be getting animal urine at least. Plants soak up their airy environment as well (listen to car traffic). "Know your environment" is good to know; she does not.
why don't we engage in "URBAN FORAGING" you ask? well, because people, dogs, cats, and a whole bunch of other wild creatures piss, shit & step on these lovely greens you're eating my dear.... Nurtritious, huh?
@xsuperiorbuztzx there IS such thing as washing them.... u ever heard of this concept?
Just like our garden in the country, the rabbits and birds piss/shit run all over the plants, we use that concept i mentioned earlier called washing them in the sink, you should try it out sometime, works wonders even with the super market fruit/veg, might i add those are from industrial farms that expose them to much worse than what we talked about before right?

SHE may not have put pesticides on it, but she can't guarantee they haven't been hit with crap from others. Depending on where you live, homeowner associations or cities will treat lawns. You also don't know what has seeped into the soil it grows in, and there's a lot more crap that can get in there in urban areas.
@Rainsofchange - What exactly are you afraid of that may have seeped into the soil, Rainsofchange? I don't see the value in your alarmist stance. The worst I can think of is lead, and the body generally doesn't absorb lead that has been taken up by the body of a plant. Most plants don't even accumulate high amounts of lead, with the exception of Mustards, Sunflowers, Amaranth, and other bioremediators.
Wow, so many haters. They probably have not had an original idea in their heads since birth. Most are probably 12 years old and too frail to go outdoors for any length of time. The vid is good and brings awareness to an interesting and overlooked subject. "Self sufficiency in nature," a dying art that could save someone in a bind someday.

In City's you have to worry about car exhaust that has carcinogenic and cancer causing compounds, car exhaust will settle on plants especially on heavily traveled roads, then there is the obvious dog pee, but if a cat has done its business near a plant you are harvesting you can get a parasitic disease called toxoplasmosis.
I'm just glad to know other people are making plans for the upcoming zombie invasion. I've been looking for someone to cover the food angle, since my urban foraging skills are limited to knowing which houses in the neighborhood are growing pot.
By the way, whatever was growing on the tree, no matter how tasty...dude, dogs pee on trees! You can't eat that. Well you can but just know random dogs, and possibly people, have peed on it first.
just wondering where are you from Rebecca? nice video btw and you look hot. im interested in learning about safe plants to eat.because you never know when it could be useful. about books ive heard that the peterson field guide is a great book to learn more about plants to eat. okay thats and have a nice day.
Thanks Rebecca for reminding us that food used to be free, and good for us. Be careful what you collect from roadsides and urban lawns - heavy metals and pesticides are not Good Eats. But I love your enthusiasm and it's obvious you know your plants! Keep educating people - the world needs more like you. :)
IT DOESNT NEED TO BE LIKE THIS! take advantage of all the edible non natives that are almost uniquely urban, berries and fruit. guerilla plant edibles, seed bomb herbs.Learn to preserve... salad can grow on a windowsill, urban sidewalk greens are not a great idea because of direct soil contamination. stress the importance of washing and cooking. be sensible about your picking places. see Pickling Peckham urban foraging on facebook for urban foraging ideas not involving weeds.
There's so much wild food to be found around Portland, this is just the tip of the iceberg! I definitely agree that it's wise to start close to home and begin familiarizing yourself with what grows in your area. I've been doing exactly that over the past few weeks and have discovered sizable patches of pineapple weed, trailing blackberry hidden among the abundant Himalayan blackberry, thimbleberry just beginning to fruit...the list goes on. :)
lol what the fuck bahahahahahahahahaha! urban foreging? i was on that same street last night when i got wasted and pissed / puked all over those greens that she was eating now i just feel bad for her. srry ;)
Sorry if this sounds odd but I was interested in wild plants for awhile I did research on a little prickly bulb growing purple hairs...found out it was called milk thistle. Grew outside my house, cropped it with scissors. Put it in my pocket and it hurt.
Makes sense to me....if your food isn't greenhouse grown, bugs are going to crawl on it, animals are going to take dumps on it (and walk on it), whether it's growing in your yard or a farmer's field! Nothing wrong with expanding your culinary repertoire, especially when it's FREE!
that's crazy, don't harvest stuff directly from the side of the rode. E.g. the oil run off from the street will be accumulated in the plant. Also you don't know if somebody took a piss there are or a dog shit on it.
Go to your backyard, or better into nature (countryside)
Good vid, people should learn what is eatable in their areas. I am an outdoors man so wild eatables are familiar. The prejudices many people have is exactly what, threw their willfully ignorance I might add, keeps them completely dependant others, mostly corporations. This imho is reckless. Self sufficiency is enlightening. Just be sure the owner of the yard in urban setting has not sprayed poisons on it recently nor his neighbors. Be aware of water runoff from other treated yards also.
My dog pisses on every plant he sees when taking a walk, and the cities use reclaimed water to water most green areas here. Eating anything near sidewalks would be a bad idea.
Wow, I am impressed and thankful that the younger generation are discovering the survivalist/self reliance lifestyle. I do want to add one caveat, careful what you harvest out of a urban yard. If the lawn looks manicured and well tended then you can suspect things like fertilizer or pesticides, not good eats people. Two ask! Talk to the property owner before you graze, most would be happy to let you take their "weeds"
Rebecca thanks for this information and sharing your gratitude for what nature is still trying to provide us through the blanket of concrete we have spread out!!! I think you're awesome :)
That's the spirit. "Weeds" are free food and medicine. I often eat from my lawn when I run my mower(I'm not allowed sheep in my neighborhood...yet) We should learn the value of plants just as we can learn the meanings of words. Freedom grows out of knowledge.
nothing like eating some weeds that were growing right next to that car's tail pipe. it probably is filled with chemicals b/c when they start their car up in the AM its cold and all the exhaust builds up behind the car on the ground right where the weeds grow...

That's the spirit. "Weeds" are free food and medicine. I often eat from my lawn when I run my mower(I'm not allowed sheep in my neighborhood...yet) We should learn the value of plants just as we can learn the meanings of words. Freedom grows out of knowledge.

@JDilla2812 She has maxed herbalism. If she eats something bad, she just pops lifeblood.
