  • thanks for the vid, just got a used 2008 accord sedan exl. going to do this soon.

  • @TheFrankJGamez

No problemo. Check out my other videos - there's lots of other material on DIYin for the Accord!

  • Car is looking good, just saw you on mopac headed south bound. I waved from my 4 runner. Had to be you... only other modded accord in Austin haha!

  • @kingb0626

LOL - yeah, it was me! Cruising home after dinner.

  • you mentioned a 1/4th extra turn on the filter after it is hand tight. does the same apply for the drain plug?

  • @okman4ever

To spec, you'd tighten the drain plug to 29 ft/lbs using a torque wrench (both I4 and V6). If you don't have a torque wrench, you do not want to overtighten this bolt and risk stripping the oil pan. But at the same time, don't under tighten it because it could fall out. Try to pay attention to how much pressure it took to remove, and try to reapply with a similar amount.

In then end, just go buy a torque wrench. They're cheap and you'll use it forever.

  • what are the things you can do yourself to maintain an accord 2009? im off to college and got the accord 2009. i want to learn what i can do to maintain the car. Besides the oil change shown in the video, what else are there? air filters?etc?

please help me list them and maybe give tips on how to do them? im not very auto-savvy so please help,

    it would be VERY APPRECIATIVE

  • @o0jun0o

Thanks for watching. If you click on the link to ManClubAustin (above the video, on the left side), I have over 25 videos on DIY Honda mods/maintenance. The best thing you can do is to read the owner's manual and understand how the Maintenance Minder works on your car. Thankfully you bought a Honda, so they're pretty reliable. Common changes are oil & filter, AC filter, engine filter. If you don't have a manual, sign up online (search "ahm-ownerlink") and you can d/l the PDF.

  • Yep its a good car as long as you maintain it well. Accords are great cars cause I've seen a lot of friends who abused theirs and the cars still took them to work everyday to work for 100,000s of miles.

  • Where did you get the crush washer that cheap? Can you post links/reference number/etc. so I can order them too? Thanks.

  • @nobutsome

I just ordered a few dozen from HandA-Accessories. Since I can't paste URL links in the comments, just google "HandA-Accessories". They're about $0.22 each when ordered in the quantity of 6...the killer is going to be the shipping. So pick up any other maintenance items at the same time (air filters, cabin filters, wiper blades).

  • Whats the best oil to put in a V6?

  • @tbursee

5w-20. it is very important to choose an oil displaying the "Starburst" (American Petroleum Institute Certified) certification symbol. This symbol indicates that the oil meets the latest performance requirements. Oil bearing the Starburst will provide superior performance in the areas of deposit and sludge protection, wear protection, and oil life.

That being said (manual quote above), I last used Amsoil 5w-20 XLM. Before that was Mobil-1

  • @ManClubAustin So Amsoil works well with Honda? Thanks

  • @tbursee

It has worked well for me. Try it out!

  • Great Video bro!! I own a 2003 Maxima v6 i also do my own oil change and Pre filling the oil filter i couldnt do on mine lol cuz the filter goes in sideways but its a good tip!! My GF Owns A 2009 Honda Accord Sedan V4 never done an oil change on a Honda So This Video is Helpful Specially Knowing where to find the oil filter is wat i really wanted to know!! i also use Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic Oil!!! Thanks bro for the video

  • @hodgejr619

If your GF's car is a 4 cyl, the oil filter will be in a slightly different location. My wife has the 2.4L I-4 in her Element, and the oil filter is sideways. The oil filter is located on the rear side of the motor (facing the rear of the car). You can still put some oil in if they're mounted sideways, but just enough to wet the filter paper.

Thanks for watching. There are plenty of other videos here that you can apply to your GF's car. Enjoy!

  • Great video. Very helpful.

  • Thanks so much for this video,

Synthetic oil does make a dam difference got my self a K&N airfilter and my accord runs like a charm.....

  • @dommidigital - Filling the new oil filter with oil, (priming the oil filter), helps to reduce the dry-start effects and excessive metal-to-metal wear an engine goes through after an oil change. When an engine is drained of oil, the oil system loses all pressure and priming the oil filter allows the engine to build oil pressure back up in the system quicker than without priming the oil filter. My channel has many video's on oils, filters and lubrication systems in engines. Enjoy. :)

  • Thanks for the video! Really helped me out on my first oil change.

  • Great video. I change the oil on my tC all the time but watched your video just to make sure there wasn't anything tricky before I try changing oil on my wife's '09 V6. I like the bolt on the top of the K&N oil filter, didn't know they came w/ them since I always just used a Fram or Purolator. I think I'll get the K&N too. Thanks again for a thorough video.

  • Nice car and nice video dude....

I have a 2008 Coupe EX-L I-4 (No manual and no V6...worst mistake when i bought it). But i have enjoyed the car a lot despite the automatic. I am going to do my first self oil change here in a day or two and liked this video...

I wanted to ask you why you chose Mobile 1 oil...isn't it synthetic? And why you chose synthetic?

  • @12qwasdfer34

Thanks for the kind words. I am really glad the people are using the information and doing a little maintenance at home.

Because the car can go close to 10K miles between oil changes, I chose synthetic. But honestly, you'll be fine with any approved/certified oil (name brand oil). The 5 quart jugs are the best buy, and WalMart has great prices. I think Mobile-1 is about $20 for a 5 qt. jug, and regular oil is about $13. Just make sure you get 5w-20.

  • @ManClubAustin - Keep in mind for a motor oil to safely go to 10,000 miles without changing it, the oil must be specifically formulated for the rigors of extended drain service. Up to 25% of a bottle of motor oil is made up of what is called the additive package and this is a combination of chemicals added to the oil to help the oil perform better, or in the case of an extended drain oil, make it possible for it to remain in service tor extended drain intervals. Standard Mobil 1 is not....

  • @ManClubAustin ...formulated for safe extended drain intervals. Mobil 1 Extended Performance however is for up to 15,000 miles. AMSOIL synthetic motor oils lead the industry and have recommended and warranted drain intervals up to 35,000 miles. I have been an independent AMSOIL synthetic lubricants dealer for the past 25 years. Lots of information at my channel. Enjoy. :) You did a nice job with this video! :) Don't forget the gloves though to keep used oil off your skin. Cancerous.

  • @12qwasdfer34 - Yes, Mobil 1 is a synthetic oil and for superior engine protection, improved fuel economy, lower emissions, easier winter starting/improved lubrication, superior high temperature protection, (and other benefits as well), a good synthetic oil is the way to go. Mobil 1 is a good oil, although it can be very costly to use compared to other synthetic oils available. My channel has many video's on this topic. Enjoy. :)

  • you are a life saver, but would this work for a '97?

  • @DonSerrano007

Yeah, the principals are the same. Check your oil weight (ex. 5W-20) - it should be labeled on the oil filler cap. Your oil filter might be in a different location. Take your oil to WalMart, AutoZone or something to dispose of it properly!

  • keep 'em hangin!...haha this guy is funny

  • @dommidigital

It can't hurt to do pre-fill the filter with oil. It wets the filter, and I use a little on top to lube the rubber gasket.

  • Good work man, I appreciate the video.

  • Thanks

  • Great job! I've changed oil on my cars for years and I was still able to learn something new from your presentation. Keep up the great work. Hook 'em Horns!

  • Thanks..yeah mine isn't lowered. Might get the hfp suspension though but not sure I want to sacrifice any ride quality. I had just ordered those same ramps from autozone (they have a spend $100 get $50 off your next order deal going on right now - incl free shipping). Oh I also got 10 OEM washers off ebay for $3.70 shipped - hand was $8 shipping! Mine is black 09 EX-L V6 coupe w/nav...really happy with the car and I'm coming from a corvette Z06. Totally different cars with diff purposes ofc.

  • Oh ok, it looked brand new to me. By the way are those the 8000 rhino ramps? In the vid it looks almost like it will scraped the lower front spoiler if you try and drive up it. It clears it ok though?

  • @kbreese72

This was my first oil change...that's why the drain plug looks so new :)

Good eye - the ramps are Rhino 8000. They'll clear no problem, unless you drop the car with springs/HFP/coilovers. After my HFP install, I simply lay down some 1x8 boards in front of the ramps. That gives me enough clearance. Or you can just use a jack and some jack stands.

    Thanks for watching!

  • I understand the crush washer but why do you use a new drain bolt?

  • @kbreese72

The drain bolt is the original. You only need to replace the crush washer.

  • you should flush the oil tank by putting with atleast .5 quarts of new oil in the oil fill. This would get some residue out from the oil tank.

  • very informative thanks .

  • Where can I get the crush washer and the oil filter shocket ? should I order from dealer? I changing first oil for my '10 v6 sedan.

  • @hungt You can get them from the dealership, but they might be expensive. Call them and get a price. Then compare to an online dealer, such as HandAaccessories, who sells OEM parts.

  • @ManClubAustin great thanks man

  • @ManClubAustin awesome video very well demonstrated and recorded. Do you mind sharing the part numbers for the washers and socket? I'm a total newbie to this.

  • @fusionista

Do a google search for handaaccessories (sorry, youtube blocks out links). Find your year car, and look under the Maintenance section. You'll find the filters, crush washers and filter wrench socket. The filter wrench will fit on a ratchet.

  • I have an 98' Civic with 448,000 mile on it and everyone wants to know what kind of oil I use. I tell them what ever honda uses when I take it to them for an oil change. I'll be getting a V6 Coupe this year and I think I'll change my own oil on it. thanks for the info.

  • This is great! I'm a single mom w/a 15-year old that I'm going to use this to teach him how to change the oil on his car. Very easy to understand instructions.

  • I'm glad somebody is watching it. I've had some requests to do some simpler tasks. My next video will be swapping the HEPA filter for the A/C. The dealership charges about $100 for this. I'll show you how to do it for $20.

  • nice video~ thanks!

    by the way, nice car.

  • Another ways to access to the oil filter are turning the steering full-locked to the right hand side or take off the right wheel
