What could've caused the static noise? Sony machines, especially pre-1982, tend to become filled with static after 10 years because of improper PCB lamination that crackles over time and catches humidity, creating dangerous conductive links.
Its in the records. Never heard anything quite like it. I have a decent McIntosh system and never had that proplem before. The records make the same noise on other equipment. I can see the groove damage with a 30X magnifier. I also experiment with stylus sizes from 1 to 3.5 mil. It made some difference.
