@MattRosemier1 More like Ron, Charlie, and Bill (saying Bill cause he was in the band during this album/song). Hopefully people realize the Rolling Stones aren't a two piece band.
There was a time when I completely agree with the guys who said that Dirty Work was a weak album. Now I understand that the Stones have managed fit with all the styles. Dirty Work is the opposite of an album like Exile on Main St., Sticky fingers, or the latest Bigger Bang. In the 80's, the best rockband ever couldn't make an album like those old ones. It didn't fit with the 80's spirit. (sadly?). Today it's different. The music is more open. Bigger Bang has more "70's spirit hits" as Dirty work
7 years old, back of the car, listening to my cassette walkman with this on Side A and Steel Wheels on Side B. About 30 times in a row. That's about 30 times more than any critics listened to it. Not a masterpiece but brilliant nevertheless. I wish the sweeping dismissal of anything post-MT or even post- Exile would stop as it's preventing new Stones fans from really discovering the full range of their work.
@jarirusi No disrespect to Keith (or you, for that matter) but I think that's Jimmy Page on the solo. He's credited on the track, and it figures they'd have him do the solo. It does sound very "Stonesy," but Jimmy is known not only for his unique sounds, but also his ability to fit in with the sound a band is going for (he was a session musician on hundreds of hits in the 60's, including some Stones tracks, I think).
not because people say that this album is a failure, but a few themes are ugly, but for example this is one of the themes that I like about this album, if not my favorite album
@dannyd1572 he had a heroin and alcohol addiction during this album so i don't even know if he played drums on this track. undercover and dirty work both had replacement drummers on some tracks :(
@sanderveendam Listen to Black and Blue...very week album. I think the last one "Bigger Bang" was kind of a flop. I was expecting a little more and it just didn't have the hard rock sound I was looking for. My favorite stones period would have to be 69-74. God I miss Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor!
@sanderveendam ... This is one of the best Stones albums, possibly THE best of the Ronnie Wood era, full of fire and venom, and quite polished with it. Amazing that so many critics rushed to sweep it under the carpet when it was released. I'm not quite sure that there are NO bad albums, I must admit that although I have a copy of Voodoo Lounge, I never play it! Perhaps I'm missing something?
This album was after the disco phase where the Stones were trying to evolve and stay trendy. There's syntho-pop, techno-pop, digital, reggae flavors, and other contemporary sounds mixed in. I've always liked the album. It creates an industrial sound similar to some of the popular stuff at the time. Too bad because Keith and Ron have some wicked chops and rythymic weaving that deserve credit. Mick teaches some hip life lessons in his intelligent lyrics which probably didn't play well with some.
I mean "underrated", lol. I'm from Argentina, english is definitely my worst language. Anyway, I mean I love "Dirty Work", even if it's a underrated album.
The only song I like on this album. I guess there are no live versions on here?

I've never heard of Jimmy Page playing on any other tune other than One Hit for this album.

After 25 years, I appreciate this album much more.
One Hit is one of their most underrated singles.

why is it so hard to include Ronnie Wood in a Stones montage|?

This song may stumble a bit but it's part of it's charm. And Keith is playing one damn fine scorching solo here !

@mielazul Ok, I didn't realize that but thanks for info. Must check the album sleeve. If it's Page then I must praise him for that :)
jarirusi 6 months ago
@mielazul Yes, it very well could be. Jimmy Page does the lead solo on another track from this album "One Hit To The Body."

I love this album except for Charlie's snare. The producer "tightened" it to give it a harder edge. Charlie's sound is perfect.
