go to your local peavey dealer and get a new ca. The word on the street is that peavey really screwed the sound up.. i think i believe it. smells like peavey.
Apparently CA has indeed closed their doors. There's lot's of speculation about whether they'll re-emerge in a different business model, perhaps owned by another company. We're all hoping these fine guitars don't just go away.
Well, I just checked and CA still seems to be out of business. Their website says "under maintenance". I ended up selling the baritone and putting heavy strings on my CA GX performer, tuning it down to C standard. It handles that very well, has upper neck access and mid-range definition, which I did struggle with a bit on the CA baritone. But I'm mainly finger-style. How about your own experience with the Baritone?
Curious about your comments, I just listened to the video for the first time in several months. I guess we listened to two different videos. I can hear occasional string slap in a few places, but "buzzing like hell?" Nope.
No we listened to the same vid I think. your just not hearing it. there's way too much string slapping/buzzing on that particular guitar to create CLEAN sound. Sorry if I offend, just my opinion.
Interesting. One thing I did notice about the CA baritone is that more attack does not necessarily translate into more volume or dynamic. I tuned my CA GX Performer down to C standard with heavier strings and really liked THAT result. Will be interesting to see how that sounds to you once I get a video posted. My ear told me "clearer" with the GX tuned down. It's not a baritone scale.
I can't believe I never commented on this before. I've watched it at least five times, ha! Fantastic guitar. Love seeing/hearing it in action. I can't wait to play (and hopefully own!) one someday. Thanks for the review! Great playing, too, by the way.
I thank you any way because your the only one trying to help with this ca baritone that I can find anyway. For some of us its a big decision spending 2000 dollars on a guitar. Dont take me the wrong way, I saw review and got excited. I need this guitar because my acoustic wont hold a# fcfcf or cfcfcf without rattling all to hell even with really thick strings, and I dont have alot of money.
Hey man Im not try to be an ass but you list the vid as review and all you did was play. Everytime it looked like you were going to go in to more detail it just got cut off. Courtesy or not its what you labled your vid as and the sound quality is only one part of an experience with an instrument. Thanks for telling me about MacNichol they seem really cool, but your review is just a few sound clips and isnt going to help anyone make a rational decision... sorry.
You make a rational decision about a $2000 dollar by going and playing one.. I drove for 3 hrs in hell traffic to try several models. All rationalism goes out the door in a guitar store. Not a one buzzed. The only buzz was my credit card going through the machine. I am/was a hard core Martin fan. And not entry level stuff. If you live or gig in zero degree to extra dry climates forget your $3000 Martin. The tone and playability on these will make you forget rationalism too. Good Luck.
Thanks. All sound samples were made with guitar in C standard tuning. I used a short capo for the celtic-style sample. Red capo on 2nd fret brought the guitar up to D standard. 14-59 heavy gauge string set. It's the setup recommended by CA. I recorded dry with AKG CS1000 mic into Mackie board, flat EQ.
This doesnt tell us anything about action, string tention or anything about playability. Everytime you start talking about the guitar it just skips to you playing. Im really thinking about buying one of these but for 2000 big ones I need to know, the action is going to exceptional, it can be tuned to a# and what it sounds like pluged in. I also noticed that it still seemed to rattle a little bit in some parts. Can you post a more indepth review please for future buyers. Thanks.
Oh gee, I didn't know I was expected to answer all those questions for you. I posted the review as a courtesy to other players. Action is exceptional, typical of CA guitars. I don't tune to A#. It sounds great plugged in. I suggest you buy one from an outfit like MacNichol who will happily give you a 30 day evaluation period so you can decide for yourself.
At 4:36 what is this song friend ,,,is it doc watson ,,,thankyou you are an amazing guitar player ...peace ,, nice ax too..

Thanks. Good ear on that tune. It's the classic fingerstyle piece, "WIndy and Warm". Doc and Merle Watson did record this one.

I hear no string buzz.....look like GW348 needs to put the pipe down, or get some new ears.
Guitar sounds fine..
Cheers.

Your string attack is light, yet the guitar buzzes like hell. I was considering one of these in my quiver, but maybe not after hearing this.
