  • what cint of skins you are using? I have the same set and I really like your

    sount thanks you are awsome!!

  • The setup reminds of Gavin Harrison's setup. Just sayin :)

  • @allamaalarm Funny you mention that. I've been playing the same drum set up since 1992. When Gavin Harrison's first book came out in 1994 I loved it so I looked him up and I thought, "Wow, His set up reminds me of mine." He is one of my favorite educators.

  • Outstanding! Good song, great technique and feel, and those drums are fatter than my mother-in-law! I'm a Tama man myself but my first kit was Pearl :)

  • So, this is what you get when you mix Frank Zappa and Billy Cobham! Sick dude.....great talent on all fronts.....brilliant.

  • I don't know where your foot is I'm sorry I lost it.

  • I'll solve the easy question...

Your foot is attached to your Tibia and Fibula bones..

  • so are u playing most or all of that with one foot! if so greAt if not cool!! just wondering!!

  • The story behind this song is that it the first song I wrote after my brain injury in 2005. I was in physicial therapy at the time learning how to walk correctly with my left leg, stand up with out getting dizzy and climb stares. I would always say to myself "wheres my foot?" when I would mess up. I playing with two feet.

  • this is awsome man

  • you are very good man, your quality is outstanding and that kit.. holy shit.

    you are underated!

  • Thanks! That means alot. The drums ARE great arent they. This is my favorite. It is a Masters Studio 6 ply Birch with a natural finish. Im using Remo Suede Emporers on the toms and an Evans coated EC2 on the snare.

  • very nice dude. i see a very large china at the top left there =D.

my kit isent that good. it has 2 bass drums but my cymbal stands keep breaking so i only have 1 for the ride and the crash sits on a cymbal stand that comes out of the bassdrum.. and thats cracked.. i have another crash too and i have a splash but i need some money to appreciate everything i have at once! after all i dont work ahah i'm only 15.

  • The china is actually two chinas stacked on each other. the top is a 14" Sabian Pro China. The bottom one is a Sabian 18" hand hammered flat Duo China. Thats how im gettig that gated white noise out of it.

  • That means alot. Thanks. Im trying : )

The kit is my favorite out of the three that I have. This one is 6ply Birch.

  • just like sinisterskip said, playing popular songs will help you get views. A drum tutorial for techniques and stuff could help 2. But seriously, in my opinion, maybe that can seem ridiculous but the image of your video must be good, 2. Cuz the viewer wont click on it if it doesnt look good. Title 2 is important, anyway, im just putting my word :P

  • On the actual recording, will the drums be a lot quieter? Or is this just you jamming for the camera?

  • Just Jammin. The actual song has been finished and mixed.

  • wow. that was awesome I wanna start doing some studio session stuff but if i gotta be that good Its gonna be a few years.

  • And while I'm spamming anyway. The methods I describe may be commercial style/sellout or whatever you wanna call it, but if it's a way to get your sounds across in the long run, I think they can be justified. Business.

On the other hand, don't take the people that don't understand it too seriously. Many of us were once like that. You can't prevent the fact that any hobby will know intermediates and newbees and ppl that just don't like 'complicated stuff'. Balance is always important though imo.

  • Oh, and I almost forgot to say, the mixing quality is getting really good Billy. Just a small thing (matter of taste, but still): I think your bassdrum sound can be a lot more impressive. Especially in parts around 2:15 where you play fast doublebass. Some extra compression can make the sound tigher at higher tempo's. (some people also mix a triggersound in with the acoustic sound, only the click part is then from the trigger, rest acoustic)

  • I almost recorded this take with a trigger on the kick but last minute decided to keep it real. But I agree. Thanks for all of your comments. I could use alot more friends like you.

  • you're a god

thousands of star for you ;)

  • Amazing, I like the part at 4:10 with the mini hat and splash very cool.

  • Amazing! Damn near unbelievable drumming! Its official, I'm now a Billy Canty fan.......

  • You need more views Billy! Do something about it! You need to get out of the underrated zone! I'll help a bit but my range is limited.

  • Thanks so much for your comment. How do you suggest I do that? I have been trying for many years to have people realize what Im all about. Dont know what to do anymore. For every fan I have there are 10 who hate what I do because they are musicially uneducated or something.

  • The video with 72k views is also the video that made me watch you for the first time and subscribe, because it was simply a great video (and a general title that works). Good title + quality seems to work.

ANYWAY: My suggestion: Cover some popular songs, play it say 70% like the original, and 30% your own style, change some beats or fills Billy Canty style. Make it your own "billy canty performing ... by ..." information "here's my own version of ..."

Mix in the original softly. May work!

  • With all due respect, you don't have to "sell-out" to get noticed. You get further by just doing what you're meant to be doing because ppl can tell when you're not doing what you SHOULD be doing and eventually you will fade out.

Billy, just do what you do best since the ppl who will always appreciate you are the ones that appreciate you for what you do, not for the titles in your YT videos.

  • Well, a lot of drummers do it the "geeky" way, for which you are more than advanced enough technically. For instance, you can choose titles like "blastbeat" "doublebass" and add something to it, amount of BPM's etc. Explain some technique and show your awesomeness in a particular part, get a lot of views, some extra subscribers. Then slowly start working towards what you really wanna show. You can also simply cover songs that many people know and work from there towards your goal.

  • I don't wanna sound like mr. know it all, because I've yet to post my own video's on youtube soon (nowhere near your technical level, but I just like to record stuff I like to play).

I just know 'well' chosen titles and reference words are extremely important. Just look at :

Billy Canty "Double Bass Clinic Joke Video #2"

72719 times watched. What word's in there :) Right.

  • Man, you are so good. Very underrated.

  • That was awesome, really cool man. Much better than Monster if you don't mind me saying! Complex stuff but it all fit very well.

What are you using for the other instruments? Are they recorded or just synthesized?

  • Thanks,

Its all real instruments with real players. Im playing keys too. These are obviously not the finial drum takes. They are already recorded. Im just playing to the tracks with the drums muted so I can video tape it for youtube.
