Nice prediction, but it seems that Google has a more ambitious view on 'cars powered by Google'. In the near future Google takes over the whole driving.
Check the article 'Google Cars Drive Themselves, in Traffic' on the New York times website!
Audi and Google have announced that the 2011 Audi A8 will have Google Earth built in. It should be on the road in late 2010, so its happening in under 3 years and that was a very good call.
I agree, Microsoft just try to expand into too many markets at once to actually be good at all of them. imo Google is still uncontested as the best search engine
if google came into cars they should add Wave or something similar =O!
Imagine if you're driving to your parents living 6 hours away from you and with your confirmation they could check how far you've come on the road and your exact location.
Nobody has to, its not our responsibility to make sure you are no longer lonely, or bored. But I will tell you this, the one thing that can save you from boredom is Farkle on Facebook.
I agree that this is a good idea in theory. But what about if you drive into a wireless blackspot? What if you drive across a country border? The roaming charges? Yes the tech is free from Google but the ISPs would charge the hell out of you!
ya so microsoft has a application only in ford, lincon, and murcury cars called microsoft sync it let`s your play your mp3 player i pod navigational call people ect... check it out its prety good :)
@iglofiscj LOL make sure you get the microsoft warrenty if you happen to get the ring O' Death on your microsoft powerd car, or you turn the key and your vehicle fails to boot
you DO realize that, with your hands on the wheel like that, you WILL lose your thumbs and break many many bones in your arms and face from the airbag, right?
I don't know, cars are about the drive, not how you get there. But that's just the car guy in me talking. I heard you say that you don't like to go fast anyway, MUHAHAhahahaha!
I love that idea! I want that to happen. Actually, I'm 14 now and I want to move to the USA when I am old enough to. If they do make a Google powered car, I will move to America as soon as I can. Thats my deal to myself!
Personally I would never pay for factory navigation system! I have used multiple factory navigation systems and none of them are as good as my Garmin which I bought in 2006. Sure my garmin doesn't have live traffic updates and weather like the newer ones but I have no issue turning on my radio to listen to the am traffic station or to switch to traffic and weather channel on my Sirius Stilletto
Google is taking over the world. I might drive a Google powered car. But an Apple powered car? Oh YES! I would be Certain it wouldn't break down or give me an problems.
It'd have a completely touch-screen interface, cost £1,000,000 ($1,700,000), you'd have to remove to fuel tank completely to get more petrol, and for repairs you'd have to send it off to Apple for a few weeks instead a generic car garage...
nope no way to upgrade major versions of google android and besides the hard ware in the old android devices will probably mean no turn by turn and such cool features
you have become completely and utterly ridiculous.
You don't have any performer's talent whatsoever and you think you are funny. In any case, your videos are not informative any more. *unsubscribe* aaaaaaalll the way
You do know that BSODs are only caused by hardware errors or poorly written drivers? Both are things that Microsoft do not create nor do they have much control over. If you want to say that there would be a BSOD, then if it was run by apple there would be kernel panics. Microsoft controls the hardware and drivers so they will make sure that the software works with the hardware.
There already is a google car in design/research, it's going to be a very abnormal car, autodriving is even in the question. I saw it on AOTS maybe, or maybe read it in wired or something, but it won't come out for about 10 years, and won't be shown for about 4 or 5
I love my Garmin. It tells me if traffic is building up ahead of me and gives me alternative routes to take. Google does not. So I think google still has along way to go to met those other options that google does not provide.
I see one huge problem: I would for definitely welcome Google into vehicle navigation, but all of Google's apps and services are based on the Internet - and therefor a connection to the internet. What happens if you get out of reach = no navigation. If Google can make a map feature you can download into the navigation system of the car, like the existing sat nav systems - then no problem. Google may not be perfect, but at the price of nothing plus a little advertising, I'm game.
(The following comment is just joking, not serious. It is just joking, I don't disagree that Google with have to do with SOME car company) I could see myself calling HP tech support because I forgot my password. I could see myself calling some McAfee help line because I got a virus. I could see myself waiting in line at the Apple Genius Garage. What about Best Buy Geek Squad Garage? I could see everybody driving their new notebook car. Downloading Avast! free insurance. Dangerous thoughts.
If there were to be a Google car, it would have awful MPG. If it was electric powered like a Smart Car, it would need to be recharged after very short distances. Even if the engine ran on gasoline it would need to be recharged. Ever run out of battery on a laptop? Same thing. An internet based car would have 1 MAJOR problem, MALICIOUS SOFTWARE. Please, activate this in all cars just for during rush hour!
Driving in California sucks because few people knows how to Fucking merge!
It just takes one curve and a few incoming on ramps to create a choke point (Damn 91 and 15 to hell with you 405 spare me my life 22).
I would happily love to "drive" hands free through just the traffic hours.
We just need to link up all cars through Wi-Fi to send out a "route through rush hour" signal.
I for one am all for Google getting me home on time!
