This looks real good, but I have to ask. What do you do with a plasticine sculpture when you are done? I work in water based clay and kiln fire it afterwards. But with that, I cant use an armature. Are you making a mold from it? What's your end permanent idea?
@vince7777 Molding is the only way to go after the sculpture is complete, but it is a long and complicated process full of pitfalls but if you take all the precautions it does work out. I've made several of the skulduggery chracacters but never made molds out of them because, what would be the point? I could never sell them. I'm working on orginal creations now and I intend to make molds out of them.
@laniv1982 I always hit a wall with creative freedom with oil based clay. Because to pull a mold from it I have to watch for undercuts, and it all makes for making a mold from it nearly imposable. I use water based clay (ceramics) and then found a paperclay ceramic clay that solved some problems, but it also has it's limits. I'm about to head to polymer clay. What are you using now with your original ideas?
@vince7777 I put in a reply here but I never appeared! Anyways you said you use water based clay, how do you keep the extremities like arms and legs stable if you dont use an armature and what is the benefit of paperclay? Is polymer clay like super sculpey? It's great ot work with but you cant make molds out of it when you put it in an oven thats why I only ever use it to make one-off pieces for friends and family.
@laniv1982 Arms and legs are always a problem with most water based clays. I never got it to work till Laquna came out with a paperclay. It's like regular clay but has a 20 percent paper fiber mix. That let me stand figures up and raise their arms. You still fire it like ceramics, but it has good and bad points. Even after firing it's still kinda weak, and I usually get a crack somewhere. All my stuff is one-offs. I don't even think about multiples. I have my stuff on facebook.
her head an face needs a lot of work, but her body is perfect. i love how much detail you put into her boots and the tendons and bones in her hands :)
I had watch your video and i think you have mach big experiance. I make my sculpture that you had estimate with no detalies, rather when you make your sculpture with all detalies you have also very good shapes. Is it plasticine? If it does, so are master, because making smoth for plasticine is tooooo hard for me and perherps for athers.
like if you thought that drill was gonna be up her butt....

I used Chavant Plastalina. How I got smooth was by using a alcohol torch mostly.
laniv1982 2 years ago
Oh thank you for information. so you mean burn plasticine with spirit a torch?
GeorgiaIrakli 2 years ago
Not burn, melt it a bit and it smooths over.
