  • Im going this year. So excited!

  • i am native my culture is algonquiin (algonkin) and its just sad to see how the world is turing in so many ways cause my great grandfather never saw anything eletical in his life he was native and when they started making all this stuff he literly cried and he swore on his life he will life his life like he did before any of this was made and now seeing whats changing i too think that its the people that will make the world end cause us natives live without elctricty and we can live with out it.

  • Cool. Luv it!

  • I knew that my mom was partly Mohawk.Since I do not live in Canada anymore, and that I don't know her native father, I don't know from what root clan we are from between bear, turtle and wolf.Is there any way for me to find out? Thanks.

  • @KanjaFubuki just ask any of the women in your family what they are. all the women in your family should be the same clan, since children always belong to the same clan as the mother.

  • Being Apache-Sioux, I can listen to this Native music forever. God bless all Native Americans.

  • Hello Monsieug, great video, especially for anyone who has an interest in pow wows but has never had a chance to go. It would be perfect for the Canada’s Got Treasures collection, which aims to feature Canadian videos of personal or cultural significance. Help celebrate Canadian diversity by joining our group (/group/TresorTreasure) and submitting your video. It would be made available on our channel and website.

    Hamish,

  • Washington stat have a lot's of tribes my sister one kide here famliy go all the way to canda in are rond washington stat tribes

  • was this pow wow just mohawks or are there other tribes performing as well?

  • Nice vid.The ple of kahnawake could be mixed with black and indian or white and indain or all of above?.My sis knows someone who's some family memebers live on some reserve and they aren't completly native. That friend also said as long as you are mixed with it ,you can live there.

  • No we are NOT mixed with black. Why is it Native American Indians are always having to defend the blood quantum. I never say, your not 100% Italian, 100% Jewish, 100% Black, whatever. Both of my parents, all my grandparents are Mohawk. I am Mohawk of Kahnawake!!!! And yes, I will live with the Mohawks and die a Mohawk. As long as your mixed you can stay where you are.

  • This was a reply to cherri7 comment.

  • pt1:What are you talking about?? I never said they are ALL mixed.I'm saying that I heard that mixed ple can live on the reserves as well.I'm not assuming that the mixed ple there are mixed with black. That is why I mention white also, but you didn't go against the white so i'm guessing you consider white native mixed as one of you guys?.

  • pt2:I have seen white looking ple who call themselves native and it is b/c they ARE mixed with white. All you ple dislike mixed ple? telling me to stay whre I am even though I did not tell you i'm mixed race or mixed with native.

  • We had a group of people called the Elders. The Elders, Band Council, Indian Affairs etc... are always trying to tell us about Blood Quantum. Deciding who is Mohawk. REASON: Natives for many many generations have married out. Our Nation will become in jeorpady if we continue. No not all Natives are rude, only when we get pissed off. I just get so tired of labels. Or trying to justify if Im Native, who my family is etc...even in my own community.

  • I did not intend to make anyone feel unwelcomed. Just depends on your view point. Telling a Mohawk they don't look Mohawk is not a good introduction. The laws keep changing about who can live here. Basically they want only Mohawks residing here. But like I said for many years we have married out. Now they are trying to keep the blood strong. Marry back in. Discourage Natives from bringing non Natives to live here. We have already lost to much land.

  • The group I belong to is the mixed ple group. We are happy with just ourselves.I don't care if white, black, mohauk, asian indian, and amerindians don't accept me LOL.Anyway I only call myself mixed race and nothing else.

  • I've lived in New York. The melting pot. Im not racist. I just understand the plight of our people. If we don't keep our culture, history, language, and blood line strong within our community then we will forget who we are.

  • Khanowine you can stay away from our caribbean reserves too LOL.Yes we have reserves.

  • I danced in that powwow :)

  • You're not from Norway, either. You don't have a flag representing the country. You're from the USA.

  • iwayk eye

  • 500 years of genocide and still the people are beautiful! :)

  • Native pride!

  • I'm tired of " tourists " commenting on our Tribal Dance Techniques.....

  • LOL i know right XD

  • great!

  • What was the song from :13 to :21?

  • That was the Mohawk, Smoke Dance, my frnd ^_^

  • Native actress, Alex Rice is from Kahnawake...it would have been nice to see her at a pow wow performing a Native dance. She is beautiful and talented and one of the best actresses out of Canada.

  • i mohawk and proud :) "sago" means hello!

  • ya ur funny u know alot its she:kon and where r u from, im from kanehsatake

  • I`m from germany I visited the Lakota-Naton, Perhaps I should next time the Mohawk-Nation

  • its spelled she:kon not sago, just to let u know

  • I especially like the first drum goup singing. Nice job ladies. You gals sounded really pretty, very complimentary to the men. Where abouts is this powwow is this in upstate N.Y. or Canada. My brothers' people are from Akwesasne.

  • It is in Canada, on the south shore near Montreal, Quebec, in a very nice setting.

  • ahh I seen me at 1:00 lol

    Native Pride right here!

  • parents were from caughnawaga sorry they didnt raise the family there marie7diaz

  • This Pow Wow is a sacred event. Did you obtain permission to film and or publish this material of the people?

  • Yes, I sent a link to an organiser of the Kahnawake Pow Wow, and she approved it.

  • I brought my camera and they took it away from me and I asked for permission...:/

  • VERY NICE

  • I need to contact the mohawks to arrange a visit. I live in Montreal, can anyone suggest how to make contact with them via email/phone?

  • You can go to the website of the Kahnawake Pow Wow, just google it : Kahnawake Pow Wow

  • omg like i said 456464 times i was there all 2 days haha ah omg i love my culture<333

  • It's great to sing at pow-Wows and better to see myself on Youtube. As for copyrights well just get the names of who's here right. The 1st group was Smoke Trail from Kingston area?, the 2nd Tiohtiake(JoJaGay) from Montreal QC and the 3rd was Black Bear from Manawan QC. See you all next year!!!

  • Thanks for the precisions, it was great to hear you sing and beat the drum!

  • Hey, dat be me and some of my friends singing in that thing! :). you sure you got rights to that video? hehehe j/k

  • Heeyy!! Nice video! I love pow wows!! They're so much fun! I love it when they have the smoke dance there too its always an amazing thing!

  • nice..

  • We loose it!!, well next year

  • I like the way some of the ppl in the crowd are getting into the drum beat and moving. I can never resist bending my knees and moving when those pow wow drums are beating. It has to be very tiring for the drummers having to do that all day. I bet their voices go horse after so many days of it? Thank you for sharing. :)

  • The drummers change a lot, it's like a drumming competition and there are different teams representing different communities.

  • yo monsieug their not called teams, their called drum groups !!

  • Yo, you're right, they're drum groups, not teams, it's not a sport! Need to have a good arm though!

  • yeah thats true or yure arm would feel like jelly !!!! lol
