I went to Hooters for my brother's birthday and saw 2 to maybe 10 year old kids there with their family. It's no big deal at all. It's a restaurant with good food and TV's to watch the games. I went to a Hooters for the first time last year when I was 25. But then again I'm a girl so this wasn't some right of passage for me. I thought that, compared to what I see at the mall or when I go down town, these girls were dressed rather modestly and just had a wonderful demeanor that all waitresses are supposed to have. I do not see what the big deal is at all.

I don't think I'd compare my job (an economist) to a prostitute. There's a difference between spending several hours a day analyzing information that I enjoy reading about and having to sell my body because I'm poor an uneducated.

I did not necessarily have your profession in mind when I made the claim. I meant more along the lines of construction workers, factory workers, etc. Both are selling themselves in different ways to meet different needs of society, which is good, but they are selling themselves nonetheless, making them prostitutes in my mind.

It's not like the girls at hooters are strippers or are offering themselves out to patrons. They just look good. If someone told me I could make a (relative to the fast food industry) lot of money by wearing a tight t-shirt and serving burgers to 30 year old women, I'd have a very tough time finding a problem with it. When it comes to the myth of "sexual objectification," people need to calm down. Finding a person attractive is not objectifying them.

I went to Hooters for my brother's birthday and saw 2 to maybe 10 year old kids there with their family. It's no big deal at all. It's a restaurant with good food and TV's to watch the games. I don't think the kids would care what the waitresses wear. All they focus on is food and toys (the owls of course).
And hey, I think it's cool to take his son to Hooters. At least it's a good start for his son to like women when he grows up. Be happy with that mothers.

Plus I don't see the point in complaining about what the Hooters girls wear to work. And I certainly don't think people who "think" they're unattractive should hold a grudge on them because of the way they look. I don't wear short shorts in public, but that doesn't mean I'm not pretty enough to do it.
So the girls have more guts than me in wearing the tank and shorts, and no matter what, women are beautiful regardless of the size and looks.

It's not a big deal that a kid got taken to Hooters. It's wierd how Hooters is thought of as a horrible place where women are objects. It's like the first word to come to someone's head would be nudity when they hear the word Hooters. It's not even close to nudity. Also, I don't really see how the birds and the bees talk is important. The kid will figure it out on his own, they teach it at school, and it is really awkward. Then again, I'm not a parent, so I wouldn't know.

When I was in the 3rd grade I had never been... but lots of the kids in my school had - boys and girls. Hooters is not a pornographic store, it is a restaurant. If he was showing his son porn, and using as a teachable moment, it might be awkward... but whatever.
I personally find the food horrible, and the view isn't worth the food, but Hooters is like the most non-assuming restaurant. The women are fully clothed, and the kids DEFINITELY see more at the pool during the summer

It's probably OK for the kids unless they are not mentally capable of handling it. It's within the law so one experience with Hooters will probably not mess them up or traumatize them. As far as "objectifying" goes, that's more of a social thing. It's supposed to be mildly stimulating. You get that wherever you go. If that's a hooter lady in the photo, she looks nice.
