What's the name of this AWESOME song!? or it is just an improvisation or jam? The listening of these musiciens are unbelievable!!! What a performance!!
17/8. not 7/8. i like to count it: 1-,2-,3-,4-. 1-,2-,3-. 1,2,3. so its like a bar of 4/4, a bar of 3/4, and a bar of 3/8. but there are many ways to count it
i met him last night at jones beach. he was just hanging by himself checking out the opening act. He was super nice...he took his time out to allow my wife to take a picture of him and i....then he wasnt standoffish....he put him arm around me for the pic and grinnned from ear to ear...my wife loved it and i have a picture that makes it look like we know each other. We told hm that he was doing a great job under dificult circumstncs Tel him thax
This jam is freakin crazy!!! I LOVE when Jeff first comes in!!! Jeff Coffin is such a sick musician, and with Vic you know it's gonna be sick no matter what they do. The drummers got chops too. This is a brilliant capture James, thanks so much.
I take lessons with the guy that started out Jeff: Arthur Lagassee. He is a great guy, and I've learned so much from him. I dont think I could ever play like Jeff though!
That I will, sir and I'd be honored to call you friend also.. Thanks again for posting this "shower" by two of the sickest, most down to the bone kindred souls, displaying what's it's like to step into that other dimension, and let it "rain down" upon you with incredible results. There are no words to describe the feeling....and I'm sure you'd agree.. God bless.
I just heard Jeff Coffin live 3 hours ago, here in Nashville. If there is a better sax man on this planet, I sure don't know who it would be! He was playing with Nashville Jazz Orchestra, all studio guys and amazing, themselves!
Jeff just played with our college jazz band in Pigeon Forge Tennessee, the guys amazing and really approachable, I was truely honored. He did a clinical and actually said Mad Hatter Rides Again is in 8 1/2, which he didn't even realize until he tried to explain it to the Flectones (spelling) to play lol
just letting you know, thats because its in the same key...C then G. btw its in 17/8 timing (a way to count this is 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and a 1 and so forth) victor isnt sticking to a certain bass line, hes improvising (no suprise) so figure out the changes and play around with it. Good luck with this song! :)

Yeap, 17/8. It's actually 4/4 + 9/8, the straight form, but you can improvise over it, like playing 4 + 6 + 4 + 3 or 5 + 5 + 4 +3 with it,
Try it.

DerBoarder 4 years ago
Actually he only plays alto with the Flecktones on this tune (Mad Hatter Rides Again), and when he plays alto and tenor simultaneously.

its not a song its just a jam they worked out on stage. the bass groove is the mad hatter theme song from alice in wonderland.
GrubeMasterFlex 5 years ago
I think it is Mad Hatter, because the Saxophone solo is very similar and the bass groove is the same rhythm, just not the same notes.
allsmiles5611 5 years ago
just letting you know, thats because its in the same key...C then G. btw its in 17/8 timing (a way to count this is 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and a 1 and so forth) victor isnt sticking to a certain bass line, hes improvising (no suprise) so figure out the changes and play around with it.
