@photo161: I think this was a Gala Concert at Sydney Opera House (in '80s?). I recognise the costumes from the DVD I watched! (which I borrowed from Hove Library, East Sussex, in case ur in the UK!) x
I heard part of this piece while listening to NPR in my car. It was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. I didn't know the name of the piece, just something about 2 women singing in a garden.finally, I found the Flower Duet. It is magical.
What I find wonderful is that though they are different, they are at the same level of beauty and uniqueness, which makes them so perfectly united. There are many good singers, but how many of them make such an impression that you recognize their voice at once whenever you hear them sing?
Two of the greatest singers of the C20th - quite magnificent. There were not many singers who could sing next to Sutherland in her prime and stand comparison but Horne was definitely one of the few who could.
@jorgepda Your comment led me to the search performace they gave in Austria and it was sublime. Netrebko's voice and the depth and richness of Garanca's meant I just repeated the whole thing over and over. There is a place in my heart for both renditions.
How can you possibly top these two? Horne is simply on top form here, and Sutherland... well, what do I even need to say? It may not be her best performance, but she's still La Stupenda.
what beautiful voices! I think horne does a fabulous job, and while sutherland is usually fantastic, i don't think this is one of her best performances. it's not that sensitive, which is a shame because horne's shaping of phrases and dynamics is simply exquisite.
Stupende!!!

Such powerful voices! - they would be hard to ignore !
But together they seem to sing so gently at times and with real compassion
They have Beauty of Voice

Two Ladies showing how it is done, Bravo. Must be a privilege for the younger opera singer to follow such fine examples

The Empress of Sopranos and the Empress of Mezzos; singing perhaps the most elegant piece of music ever written.
Nothing sounds better than the combo of competent soprano and mezzo voices heard together.
