I installed a W41 engine into my GTZ and simply installed an Achieva SCX memcal chip from the same year car and it worked perfectly - In fact, I was happy to see the silly shift light go away. Never had any SES light come on as a result of the SCX memcal.
I was planning on doing this to my '95 2.3 twin can Cav Z24 till it got crushed D': awesome engine, the HO quad4 is my favorite domestic 4 cylinder ever.
@IvyMike551 Yeah go to quad4forums(dot)com, a member there Racin17 burns custom chips and can do anything you like including but not limited to rev limit, fan on temp, spark and fuel maps, and most importantly for the GTZ guys, get rid of that damn code 26. Prices are pretty reasonable too IMO...
Mike, GeeTee here. I have a set of the "W41" cams (not sure if they're comp grinds or what) and the proper chip... is there a way to run the chip without getting the SES light?
@IvyMike551 I am assuming you are running the axrm chip in an L-body Platform? If you are, there is no way to get around the code 26 that is displayed and it has nothing to do with the profile of the camshafts. Unfortunately, the code comes up solely for the fact that the wiring for the A/C compressor clutch relay is different between an N-body platform and an L-body platform.
@aesmith8719 Yes that is true, this is not a production car though, this has brand new W41 camshafts which, at the time, could still be ordered from GM and a modified MEMCAL with a modified AXRM "W41".bin file to allow a L body car run with an N body MEMCAL. If you use the AXRM MEMCAL in an Lbody car, code 26 will keep your check engine light on.
