@rosebuddy47 yeah i love this song too if i was married and ever caught my husband flirting with the secratary i'd shoot him in the balls so he can never procreate
My secretaries name is Maria. I play this every few weeks as a joke and she always hates it but Ik she truly likes it. But then she quit ... cuz apparently I smell and am annoying...
I remember this when it was originally broadcast. This is a recording taken from the muppet show. And all you haters can eat a bowl of d*cks. Let's see you write and or record a better song.
seriously this so song is so bad...musically,lyrically and the way it was delivered...take a letter was the right title coz i think he just typed his performance in :)
@husker666 -- Gee, as top 4- from the 1970s goes, this was 1 of the better tunes of that era. I liked it. It also got lots of play at discos back then.
I've always thought this was the first truly ADULT rock song of the 60s, not about teenage heartache or trendy collegiate protest.
A 30-something office man is in emotional turmoil, after discovering his wife is worthless, and unloads to his secretary. He suggests that the two of them might be compatible, but who really knows? A little too quick on the rebound, I'm thinking, but at the same time very realistic, giving his emotional state.
If this song was done today, he would have shot the ho, and the mofo she was wit ! then he would be telling Shakrifa to back dat ass up ! Of course it would be a rap song.
The Mission Impossible self-destructing tape was a nice touch--that must have been on the Smothers Brothers show. "Mooney" blew up his bass drum when The Who appeared on that show.
@blademaster7771 haha that is great!!! your post is endearing...love the last line, "I am so freaking happy"...brought a big smile & an uplifted feeling to me...thanks so much for sharing!!
A place in time that society forgot . . . .when music was cool, groovy & innocent and lyrics were clean and people were pure and unspoiled . . . unlike today ~ how they serve our kids a bunch of FILTH where lyrics of gang-sta rap & hip hop- are full of profanity, recording artists are horny sexual beings portrayed in videos & pop stars are admired for getting into hot water with the law - WHAT kind of CRAPis that ??? Just another example of the deterioration of the very fabric that holds us up.
this song came on the radio when my uncles were drunk and we were by the bayou and they all started blasting this in there trucks and do you know other people stopped to come drink a beer with us ahhhh memories

@raydio60 my grandfather loved this song cause my grandmothers' name was MARIA, and I'm named after my grandmother. SO I REALLY LOVE THIS SONG. Yes I know what it is about LOL before you ask.
@skifan07 My childhood Maria was my babysitter.Still have a photo from my fourth birthday party in 68 in my parents photo album and Maria is in the background.Long black hair, blue eyes(I think),nice big smile...guess she was about nine or ten.Haven't met a girl as pretty as her since.Guess that's why this song stuck in my head so early on.
@DarsowGolf I don't even know why I'm responding to your stupid message.Maybe because I like confrontation.First of all COCKSUCKER ,it was the 60's and it was on an Air Force base so it wasn't unusual for a ten year old to mind a younger kid for a few hours. How does my statement make you think Im a pedo you little CUNT? @TheMidnightBell07 RB Greaves had or has a slight Caribbean accent but, but the song definitely has a Latin feel to it, with the brass and the secretary named Maria. And I used to hear it on the Spanish oldies station ALL the time. So it is easy to see why you thought so.
