moodle sucks, unless all your students have signed up for moodle, you cannot assure that a mass e-mail message will be received, instead, you will get a moodel generated error message. Also, moodle keeps no history of messages sent.... so its back to basics my friends, upload your course material on your schools' shared drive, and get hand written e-mail addresses of all yr students.
@robotgrass Excuse me if my inexperience shows in my question. My experience is limited to XAMPP alone on my local drive.
QUESTION: Would it be possible to overcome the problem of having no record of sent messages by sending a carbon copy (cc) to yourself? Does Moodle allow it?
@excitedneuron well, i would recommend using hostgator (just google them) it is fairly quick set-up although they do require you to provide proof of ID (if that didn't make sence then basicly they will call and ask did you purchase this item etc. or will ask for a scanned image of a passport or some form of identification ) if you need any help setting up moodle then just private message me (i do however live in the UK so that might cause complications)
Moodle is not enough? Combine moodle with OpenMeetings, the Web-Conferencing software that turns moodle into a multifaceted, highly productive and more interesting e-learning platform. Check out the OpenMeetings channel for more information!

Great Video! I use moodle in my middle school classroom and find it great! Question - What video editing software did you use? I love the transitions.
With regards to making presentations in Moodle. Is it possible to use PowerPoint presentations within Moodle? Would students be able to stop and start the PowerPoint presentation at mid point? Is this where SCORM comes in? ... and would SCORM make PowerPoint work in a certain 'moodle-ized' way (whatever that might be)?
If PowerPoint does not work, will Final Cut or iMovie videos serve as a viable alternative?
Would you mind if I use this video for intro. course? I am teaching teachers the use of Moodle online. I could use the video as a teacher testimonial. I will cite source and give credit. Course will not be hosted so you won't have to worry about copyright laws.
...Mrs. Tipton?! You're an awesome teacher! Even though I don't like social studies. You did tell us about this video in class. And I did get a lot of Zack and Cody stuff. ^^
I want to get this girl a barrette for the hair covering half her face. It's torturing my ADD. Can't listen without huge distraction. (.... I will not watch, just listen...)
As far as Moodle goes, how would you use it in early childhood classes pre-k to gr 2?
The student comment on here really tell the true story. In theory Moodle is a great idea, the usability and presentation of content is absolutely awful and puts most normal people off with their first look at it. This is important, and should not be overlooked when gushing about the technology, if it's not usable, it's pointless.
I have been using Moodle for over 6 years. It has made my life as a teacher much better because it gives me a structure for all my class materials. I highly recommend it. Be sure to get a good host for running it, unless you are really good at running complex websites yourself.
@excitedneuron in addition to the comment i just added, doesn't your school currently have a website? if so then you can install moodle onto your schools website. i am sure your IT guy can help you with that
Moodle is ok, but the advanced options such as importing quizzes with images and grading in general are so broken it's easier for me to just use it as an upload/download dump in my classes.

Does your school district host Moodle? My school does not, so I am having a hard time even getting started.
excitedneuron 1 year ago
@excitedneuron if this is the case, then i am sure your school itself will happily spend 10-20$ a month on website hosting

@excitedneuron just google hostgator, it is a good bet for you. before you do so though, have a talk to your district and see if they will host it

@PatriciaSdeLopez - You would make whatever presentation you want, and then upload it onto Moodle, so PowerPoint would be fine.
