What's with the blinking eyes. To herky jerky for me. Body rising up on foot sweeps not very good. The body should remain on the same level once you start.
Honest opinion... It's just an average performance. Form is ok, but the techniques lacks speed, snap and power. Also, your mind did not seem to totally be focused on your kata. If you'd like to attract more students, your performance has to be better than the usual dojo performance. But I commend you on your courage to post the video.
@Bassai: agree, kiba dachi form needs some work as regards the tendency for the feet not to point straight forward. I think the lack of snap is symptomatic of incorrect form, such as the soto uke which I think is too high and far from the body, also the hook punch seems a little too raised IMHO. I won't say he does this kata better than me, I could learn to keep my hips level.
@christianbrecht Yup. It seems he's using Ashiko Dachi, instead of Kiba Dachi, since his feet are not pointed straight forward, but almost like a 45 degree angle. He also rises too much. I am from JKA NYC (Mori Sensei), and we were taught that the hook punch (kagi tsuki) should be solar plexus area, pointing slightly downward. But hey, every Shotokan school (JKA ones included) have varying approaches to kata. Kihon is universally the same, though.
