Judas did the job Jesus asked him to do. The payment in silver was standard practice to ensure community policing for the Romans. It was never a betrayal.

To add to that, Peter's denial was without consequence except to his own heart and conscience, was for his own self-preservation ... and he more than atoned for this with his own death etc. etc. so it was just a bit of a blip.

Hmm, reminds me of Graham Greene's question: who loved Jesus more, jealous Judas or cowardly Peter? (I reckon Peter myself, although Greene wants us to say Judas.)
