  • is the solo for real love up yet?

  • Oh my gosh this is the best tutorial ever, im able to play this so sooo easily and ive been told i am able to play this song so beautifully, i thank you pianojohn sooooo much once again for ANOTHER GREAT tutorial! :D

  • @Conqueror441 Happy to do it for you, Conqueror, and congratulations on mastering this beautiful JL composition. Keep up the great work on the piano!

  • oh and by the way, I went to Liverpool in July, and I was just walking about while I waited for my turn on the Magical Mystery Tour bus, and I came across a piano and, well, given that I'm a huge Beatles fan and I was in Liverpool and there was a piano right in front of me, I kind of HAD to play every single Beatles song I knew. and of course, I've learnt them all from you. thanks :)

  • @AleSmile Well thank you, AleSmile, I'm honored that you think so highly of my videos. Very cool that you were able to play in Liverpool, too - you have to take the opportunity to do so when it's presented to you! All the best to you in the holiday season. -John

  • well, pianojohn113, I can say I'm not new here on your channel and I know quite a few tunes by The Beatles on the piano, and I never fail to put a smile on my friends' faces when I play. the same goes for this song, it is brilliant, and whoever was stupid enough to dislike it as many times as they did, don't mind them. you're still amazing and rest assured your videos are still top notch! (and trust me, I've been around youtube trying to learn The Beatles on the piano quite a lot).

  • How can there be 92 dislikes on this? Honestly, this the most ridiculous rating for a video I've ever seen.

  • @MrGroobay Interesting - I hadn't noticed that at all until you mentioned it. Intrigued, I checked the analytics, since the numbers were quite skewed from the rest of the videos. Turns out 75 of the dislikes came in during a 3-week period from Jan 15, 2010 thru Feb 10, 2010, regularly, like clockwork, three per day. Then none after that. I sense a saboteur at work, but who knows? Maybe Yoko watched and thought I missed a chord or two. :-)

  • Hey John, Do u have any chords for this song as piano?

  • @ollienlalooooo No I don't, sorry about that!

  • this was a really good vid, but somehow i thought u lacked john's sadness feel in the song

  • Thank you, your instruction is clearer than anyone i've found. The only thing that's confusing at times is when you play it with slightly more runs and little fills than you told us about in the explanation, but I think that's because you're just feeling the song and you don't play it "exactly" the same twice. After I learn the song notes from you, I try to play it with as much variance as you do and I feel it's helping me progress, so thanks for the vids.

  • @AlwaysADenominator It's true, I rarely play it the same way twice, for the reason you mentioned - you just kind of "feel" the song, and play it that way. Good to know you're varying it as well - make it your song, make it personal!

  • totally awesome, thanks. XD

  • @aeshaw87 Glad you enjoyed it. :-)

  • you are really good teaching, thanks to you now i can play it as good as you did, thank you sooooo much!!! God bless you!...

  • @anynin I appreciate the comment, thanks. Good to know the video was helpful to you!

  • I really don't know what I'd do without you, pianojohn

  • this song is actually a Beatle song, because it was released as a Beatle song. Yes, it was inteneded to be a John Lennon song, but no one has heard of it before John died.

  • thank you!!

  • Will you ever do one for Free as A Bird? The Original demo version?

  • @joeowens1234 Yes, that's the version I'll post when I do it.

  • i really love ur videos. very easy to learn., well taught and very simple..thanks much :D

  • You' re awesome dude!!, gracias por los videos, can you please upload fine line??? de paul mccartney, it is in the album chaos and creation in the backyard, please!!!!

  • You did a great job. You have a wonderful ear. You got all the little nuances.

  • i think you need a microphone, so we can hear you sing!

  • @herothehedgefox Well, I try not to let my mediocre singing get in the way of the piano...

  • Hi John, do u have the sheet of this song?

  • @haydenfx No, but I would think it's probably online somewhere. I've seen chord transcriptions, but many are not too accurate.

  • A thousand thanks for this tutorial, pianojohn113! I composed an arrangement of this song but for years have longed to be able to play the true version... No version of 'Real Love' could ever possibly suffice to the original piano demo. In fact, just from looking at your other tutorials it would seem we have the same taste in music (then again, who doesn't have a taste for the Beatles?) If I were to request a song, do you think you could post a how-to for Lennon's 'Free As A Bird'?

  • @meant2BonTV Yes, the first time I heard the piano demo I suspected that's the way the song is really supposed to sound.. so that's the version I've stuck with. Glad you liked it. I will have "Free As A Bird" up here soon, so stay tuned...

  • @pianojohn113 I agree with meant2BonTV, please post it!!!!! =)

  • Is there any tutorial of the 0:42 minute part? u play it different and ir sounds much better than in the tutorial.

  • What did u mean by the "simple version" of the song? Is there another more difficult way to play it?

  • @haydenfx It's not really the "simple" version, but the final recorded song that was done for the anthology had several extra fills with the backing orchestrations. This one was based on John Lennon's original demo of the song, which was a simpler, more basic, rendition.

  • I'm from Brazil and I can understand easily everything you talk and your advices. if weren't you, John, I wouldn't play even the half of musics I can. Thank you so much!

    Matheus Cerdeira Pires

  • I got a piano-keyboard as a gift, i cannot read music but adoring beatles i started playing a bit just following your tutorials. I'd like to learn "watching the wheels". I cannot find any easy video-tutorial. Do you plan to make a video about it sooner or later? Anyway ... congratulations...envy is a bad thing...but i am envious of the way you play piano !! Regards

  • Great videos John! I've learned a lot with them, thanks a lot.

PD: It'd be really cool if you could do the tutorial for jealous guy by lennon.

    bye

  • not to be hypercritical of your bit - but its a bit misleading to say its the original - your version is definitely a lot different. the piano on the "was waiting for youuuuuuuuuu" is played in what sounds like 7 chords and its in stark contrast to the mellower way john plays that progression. it's too swingy sounding, i'm trying to find out how to play it the way john played it. thanks for the tutorial, though

  • hi john, I need help, can you do a cover of jealous guy by john lennon?? i need it

  • Hi John!

    Thanks again for the tutorial!

Here is a video of us playing the song live in Belgium on what would have been John's 70th.

    youtube dot com slash watch?v=SYRa4UuNX7I

  • Hi john!

Thanks again for the great Tutorial.

I used this vid to learn the song, and here is a video of us performing it in Mons, Belgium on what would have been John's 70th Birthday

    youtube dot com watch?v=SYRa4UuNX7I

  • @rossnicoll Just saw it, it was great! Saw some of your other vids too, excellent covers of some wonderful songs. Thanks for sharing it.

  • Hello again! at 7:47 you're playing a bit you forgot to teach! after the a minor are you playing a d major starting on the a and the going to the bit you taught which is the c,d and f sharp?

  • @Geronimo2705 It goes to a D7 there, which is C-D-F# in the right hand.

  • This is brilliant. Thank you so much

  • When are you going to do a "Jealous Guy" tutorial, @pianojohn113? I can't wait to learn that melody... seriously! Keep up the good work, you're awesome and I'm learning a lot with you. Cheers!

  • I hope you don't mind me suggesting a song, but I think it would be fantastic if you could make a tutorial for Oh My Love. I've been trying to learn it from bbdhrggl's video, but it's proven to be very difficult. -_-

  • this looks harder than it is. really listen to what the guy's saying, it's all there. look up piano note sheets and chords to help you.

  • John, thanks again for this great tutorial. Im halfway. Really like the song and your skills!

What about 'the night before'? I saw your video and it sounded excellent. I love the original very much. Maybe a nice song for a tutorial in the future?

  • @splofft I'd love to do a tutorial on that song, one of my favorites.. The chords aren't too tricky, but the rhythms might be tough to teach on a video. But I'll give it a shot at some point soon. Glad you liked the vid!

  • @pianojohn113 Well yes i quite am. but since im a beginner, im working on Imagine for now since its a lil more easier:)

  • Hi John, thanks again for your video. We're off to Belgium in October to play at Beatles Day Mons, held on John Lennon's Birthday - where we will be playing this song thanks to your tutorial.

By the way - for anyone playing the anthology version, the piano goes to Em, B, Em, Asus4, A during the guitar solo.

    Thanks again!

    Ross - revolverdundee dot c o m

  • @rossnicoll Fantastic, Ross, have a great trip.. let me know how it goes!

  • @pianojohn113

Hello john! I am dyiiiiiiiiiiiiiing to learn this song on my piano, but im a beginner and i get pretty lost at 2:43-3:32...can you help me with that? I am pretty frustrated with that little part hehe. When you can of course, im sure your a busy man. Thanks :)

    -Ashley

  • @XxTheBeatlesxX1 Ashley - are you still having trouble with that part?

  • @XxTheBeatlesxX1 Hi Ash!!!! :D lol see ya

  • Amazing!!

  • Thanks for response John. Was looking forward to your interpretation of a song like ripples. I compose original music with a friend of mine. You can listen if you wish at Myspace .com/ IDOL1HANDS. I still love watching and learning from keyboard players of all kinds. You have a very clear and patient teaching method, and it's nice of you to share your gift. Keep up the great work, and thanks again.

  • Real nice work on all of your tutorials. Was wondering if you did any songs from the band Genesis. Such as ripples, mad man moon, harold the barrel or misunderstanding?

  • @idolhands50 I don't play a lot of Genesis songs, for some reason.. I like their stuff, though.

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! This is so beautiful and now I can play it!!! Thank you John for teaching this, and thank you John Lennon for bringing such magic in the world, may he rest in peace :')

  • thank you so much:-D...i can play it now!!!....apart form the solo:-(

  • Great tutorial. Well done!!

  • Thanks so much man!!! I have been playing for six months and nothing I've played except Imagine by John Lennon is as simple and good as this.

Goes to show you don't need to play classical music to get the job done. Less is more!!!

    Peece.

  • GREAT!!!

  • You have the best tutorials on youtube and chose wonderful songs!!

  • love this, more Lennon genius! If the 3 surviving Beatles used the original Lennon's tapes to remake this for the Anthology version, how'd it get a 1/2 step higher? Looking for a conspiracy theory that Lennon Lives!

  • @pianojohn113

nevermind i figured it out :) btw your tutorials are AMAZING. you have a great gift. RIP john lennon......

  • @pianojohn113

just a question: how excactly did you end the intro to this song?.....

  • @DinoRoarProductions

    Intro ends at 2:33, i mean 3:33.

  • @DinoRoarProductions

    Intro ends at 2:33, i mean 3:33.

  • I love this song. I have been playing it now for a few weeks, lately I have been trying to play it with the anthology version and I know its different from the original, I know its up a half step, but is each note up a half step? If I go up a half to step on each note will it sound like the anthology version?

  • @spez1989 Yes, if you move every note up one half step, you should be in tune with the studio version that was on the Anthology. I haven't played along with the Anthology version yet, but it should all work very well.

  • @pianojohn113 Great tutorial! And wonderfully played! I would love to know how to play "Oh Yoko" by Lennon. Great song too!

  • hey!!! GOD!!! by jhon lennon, when?

  • A very mysterious sounding piece... Very beautiful though. Nice job

  • The video you put the link to has been removed.

    :(

  • @Blackrose456654 Which video are you referring to?

  • @pianojohn113 the link at 00:23

  • @Blackrose456654 Oh, right, okay I see that vid was removed. I should remove my link as well, I guess.

  • I kinda prefer it when u incorporate the singing into the piano like u did with michelle, maybe u should do with future tutorials

  • great tutorial (as always)! *****

  • you should try playing D F# A for the part where john lennon goes, real loooooveee instead of D D/ C D F#

but keep G G/ B D G after you play D F# A and D A in the left. i've tryed and it sounds really good, but it's just a suggestion, but great tutorial

  • then my friend put me on the spot and asked me to improvise, and I just sounded like a 5 year old without a clue! Do you have any improv tips? Perhaps a video?

  • I'm glad you have learned a lot from the videos, lenglain, that's very cool. Improvising is someting that takes a little while to get just right, but it really helps to know some common chord progressions. I sometimes "faked" songs in the past when my repertoire ran out during a background performance, and I had to rely on improv. Progressions, scales (major, minor, blues, etc.), and a good memory for songs are all very helpful.

  • @pianojohn113 great tutorial learned it in no time. i would appreciate it if you "Oh my Love" by John Lennon. thanx for the vids :)

  • I've learned so much from you. Two years ago I could barely play heart and soul on the piano, then I came across let it be and started exploring all your videos. Now I consider all these songs fairly easy, I create my own campy beatles-like tunes. I can play some bach, My girlfriend loves when I play "comptine d'une autre ete" by Yann Thiersen from the Amelie soundtrack. This simply a gift that keeps on giving.

  • I don't understand why this tutorial has so low rating...

  • I think it came from a user that I wound up blocking several months ago.. They logged in every day and gave it a 1-star rating each time.. I saw a big jump in new ratings for this vid over the course of a month, and I suspect that was when they did it. Either that, or this video ain't very popular! lol

  • thank you so much for this tutorial! i really wanted to learn this song and i love playing it. i like the way you teach and i really appreciate you putting up so many tutorials :) thanks!

  • any time john

  • You're my hero lol I have got most of sexy Sdie down but just cant seem to gel it all together, silly really cos I learned classical piano from aged 9 - 14 and I'm now 47...you would think I would find it easy, but your tutorials are just great and its stirred my interest in playing once more

  • you should put up a tutorial of unchained melodies thats a pretty good song

  • Fantastic, thanks lots. Could you possibly do a tutorial on Because, as I cant find a decent one anywhere, well not like the way you teach lol....

    Many thanks. Mary

  • john ur simply amazing i have nothing to comment to express how great that was!

  • hey john, i was just wondering if you ever intended on posting that middle solo part like u mention at the end of the video? just a thought. This is one of my favorite songs to play... the girls really swoon for this one!

  • Yeah, I thought about doing it right after I did this video, but never wound up making one. Not sure if I will do it soon, but it will probably come up eventually!

  • Beutiful song, first time i ever heard it, made me cry, John made such beutiful music, i used to play this song when i studied music at GCSE, id sit on piano and play for hours! soon as i get back on a piano, i'll start playing this song again using this tutorial :-) Thank you for this tutorial sir! much obliged

  • Maybe you could do a tutorial of John's "Now and Then" if you got the time? That song is also very beautiful ^^

  • i can't hear nothing, its only on your video's.

    any help anyone.

  • The older videos were recorded in mono.. just plug your speakers into the other channel and you should hear it just fine. Sorry about that.

  • Thanks so much John ^^

  • another remarkable tutorial...thank you

  • Definetley Watching the Wheels, that would be great!

  • thank you sooooooooooo much! i requested this and im sooo glad you did it!

  • I'm so glas you're doing the original version! It's so much better than the Beatles anthology version! And thanks a ton for the tutorial too!

  • For the record, i learned this in about 15 mins. I have to say it will quickly become a staple of mine. Its tons of fun to play. Thanks john! any chance of "Your Mother Should Know" or "Watching the Wheels"??

  • I second that "Watching the Wheels" request!

  • John, I'm so sorry! i accidentally clicked a 1 star rating for the video! I'll go back and give the rest 5 stars to make up for it! You really make some wonderful videos. Thank you for sharing your talent.

  • Fantastic videos.

  • if you had a quidd for evrey time a person has learnt from your videos you'd be a very rich man john

  • i requested this song like a year ago and you put it up! thanks man i can now play it!

  • 2 words: Thank you!!!!

  • Hi John, I'm a big fan of your tutorials, it's wonderfull that someone arround the world share his knowledge, I wondered if you can make a tutorial about Total Eclipse of the Heart, thank you for all your lessons.

  • It's one of the most beautiful songs that I've ever heard, congrats for your rendition of it! :-)

  • Thanks, tiramasopa, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's one of JL's best, yet most under-appreciated songs, in my opinion.

  • what about a love tutorial?

  • I swear, you're the reason I keep lugging this keyboard around with me. Thank you so much.

Could you get either And So It Goes or the Lullaby, both by Billy Joel? I'd be eternally grateful.

  • You've made my day ! I love this song and can't wait to get practising.

    Another 5 Star Lesson.

  • So beautiful, thanks for sharing....:)

  • i was wondering if you knew the song live oand let die by paul mccartney

  • oo one thing I noticed, the middle of the song varies slightly from the rest of the song. i might need to figure out that part for myself haha

  • thank you so so so much! I've been looking for tutorials for this song everywhere! it's one of my favorites from John...thank you thank you thank you!

  • Pianojohn you're my hero

  • "Oh my love"

    Please!!!!!!

  • I never heard this song before I saw your tutorial. It's an incredible one! One of John's best, I would dare to say.

Once I familiarize myself with the original recording I'm absolutely learning how to play it. Thanks for the tutorial... and for bringing a beautiful song to my attention!

  • OMG thank you soo much!! this was so helpful! your the best!!

  • Glad to do it for you! Enjoy. :-)

  • Great work, great song. I really appreciate your work. My contribution to the heap of requests: Good Day Sunshine! Would be cool, since it's also based mainly on the piano...

  • Ah yes, Good Day Sunshine, a very good song for piano.. I'll keep that in mind!

  • Glad you like it! It's one of JL's best. Keep up the good work!

  • hello pianojohn, thanks for all at you do for us, your learners, jojo, would you help us with a tutorial of Jealous guy of JL?, please, see you...

  • Hope to have that one soon~

  • what can in say pianojohn, john lennon would be proud of this cover.

  • Thanks, paulallen, I take that as a high compliment. :-)

  • If you ever have the chance could you upload Fee As a Bird? I would really appreciate it, if that means anything haha.

  • Yes, that one will be up here eventually.

  • hi john, thanks for the awesome help that you bring me in this lessons of my singers favorites. Can you help me/us with a tutorial of the song NOW AND THEN of John Lennon? i'll hope that you can!!! THANK YOU

  • You're very welcome, glad you liked it. I'll put the Lennon song on the list for you.

  • you have helped me tremendously. I hope you'll consider following this up w/ the demo of free as a bird. It would be great for us beginners. So beautiful yet simple.

  • Yes, I should have probably included Free As a Bird with it. I actually learned that one before this song.. I remember working out the chords to both songs back in 1995 about 10 minutes after I finished watching the Anthology series.

  • hi john have to say love this tutorial and video 5 stars from me as usual.

  • Thanks, paulallen!

  • One of Lennon's best. Beautiful song played beautifully. Thanks for this.

  • Thanks! I agree, it's one of his best.

  • Excellent, sir.

  • Thanks!

  • hey john. Thx for the vid. Do u know if u could do a vid on some of the fills in the chords?

  • There are different fills in different spots, but if I have the time I may be able to include those in another video.

  • awesome!! im glad you put this up. Ive been looking for this song on youtube for a piano tutorial but no one had it. Thanks!!

  • Glad to do it for you, liz!

  • Never say that John Lennon's piano is out of tune. You can end up in prison.

  • hey do u think u can also put up an instant karma tutorial, cuz that would also be really good, there isnt a great instant karma tutorial on youtube

  • this is ACE john!!

any chance of ob la de ob la da PLEASE

  • Got it on the list! :-)

  • YES YOU ARE A GOD, ive been looking for this song for sooo long, and i agree, the original version is the best

  • lol, thanks! Yes, the original is by far the best take.

  • hello thanks to you I learned to play piano, more videos of lennon. teacher hugs from mexico

    . Paxariño

  • Thanks, Paxariño! Greetings to you in Mexico.

-i was about to request it from you but i found it Thanks

  • john thank you, you are the greatest !!! I m a great fan of your videos, I have learn many songs, I hope you keep teaching us ,your pupils. Saludos desde ARGENTINA

  • You're very welcome! Greetings to you in Argentina. :-)

  • You are the greatest teacher of mine on Youtube, John! I've been trying to play and sing all the songs you taught, and that's great. Thank you so much! Hope you're well and around always!

  • Thansk very much, I'm glad it was helpful! Enjoy. :-)

  • I can play this now, and now I'm a happy man. It's such a lovely tune - thank John!!!

but why forego the little bridge part?

  • Found it very helpfull too.

  • Awesome!!!!!!! You pick this out by ear? I picked out The Beatles Antholoy verson. Wich is really Paul's piano but you get the idea. Great job! Peace -N- Love

  • Thanks! Glad you liked it. :-)

  • This is my favorite song by JOhn!

  • I just want to make a quick comment on why I choose Lennon's version over the Beatles rendition. John Lennon's voice sounds artificial and a bit flat from Anthology (which I understand why.) What you said about Lennon's piano being out of tune couldn't be more true. It gives it a haunting edge.

  • thank you so much!

  • Dude. Thank u so much for doing this. I` requested it because the only other tutorial was by pianovideo tutorials and u had to pay $20.00 for the whole song

  • I really like this, I wish I could play piano to make use of these great videos of yours!

  • the point of these is that you can learn by observing that's how i learned, start with let it be, then try others,,

  • Yeah, but I don't play piano. That's what I was trying to get at.

  • I`ve done the same.. cool!! it really works.
