Indeed, gaming is something that should be for fun and to some extent, for competition. Games like world of warcraft have broken that barrier.. a lil.. for 10 million people... but you know.. its also a corporative issue.
But yes, i agree that you should have another hobby apart from gaming and that you could easily be sucked into that "own little world" that you put forward.

Hell.. OBLIVION had me playing for HOURS on end, I love a good RPG just like Fallout 3 and FarCry. Games should only be competitive if you're getting somthing out of it, Such as being sponsored or doing a online tournament like MLG.
I totally get what your saying... I enjoy playing assassins creed all on my own just for fun and the story line. Just like Metal Gear Solid on my PS3. And when there ive completed all the storylines on my single player games, I hop onto games like MW2 and any other multiplayer game just to seek that other source of fun.
Gameplay of multiplayer games has to be challenging and practicable. When my friends, the people I play with, and I find sustainable things to learn I can get into games without taking away from my responsibities. I find it easier to balance games and life when I learn things about life from games and v.v.

I don't play video games because I do so much outside of them and I don't want to get obsessed and isolate myself. A lot of my friends play and I watch them for fun. Definitely being with the group makes things more fun for me. BioShock, by the way, is definitely a game I can enjoy as a game and not a social activity. 5 stars!

Heh, while I was playing this game, I was also learning about the british civil war. Then we moved onto the topic of the philosophers. We started talking about plays, writings, and other ideas in class. I could relate some of the ideas of these plays to the story of what man is truly shown as through bioshock. This game has a bigger meaning than what it really shows.

bioshock is without a doubt my favorite single player game, it is far from pointless, has the most detailed, compelling and moving story I've seen in any game and if you have the patience to find every audio diary you can assemble some very sad tales about the citizens of rapture.
hutch is right i looked at my old PS2 collection every game 100% complete even tedious boring ones i then looked at all my PS3 and 360 games...barely anything was properly played through even though most of them were great. All because COD4 and the online its addictive and kinda takes away from all sp games i mean i played assasins creed again today and loved it but i know if i saw the 2 together id pick COD4 just for the competetiveness!

I think you want a balance. Having fun is the only thing I play for now but think about what built your channel, fun or competitive? or both, and there is the balance. Personally, I think it was a mix of the two. This video has 5k views and a 5 star rating but is meant for fun/expressing your views, but your GB are meant for a competitive audience and have much the same reviews. That there is my 10 cents.
Yeah i really liked this game i've got all the trophies *achievements* and i love how its not like an easy hack n slash game, on the hardiest difficulty i liked how you could think about mixing up ur plasmids and choosing the right tonics and making you think, also i love the way you can figure out killing the big daddies. Also you'll find out that you can take pictures of the enemies and be graded for the quality of that picture.
I beat this game 4 times (PS3) and I have the platinum trophy. It's really worth it to save the little sisters on every play through, even if you are trying to beat Survivor mode without using Vita-chambers. Also, if you're tired of hacking turrets/security bots you should max out your research (using the camera) for them. If you max out the research hacking a bot will be instantaneous.

I too have experienced complete isolation just to play video games , i would never go out , i would always be in my room playing games all day and night , i only ever spent 10 minutes outside of my room to use the toilet and get a small snack , i still play games , yet not as much.
Single Player games like Oblivion are the type of games i really enjoy now, COD4 has gotten to competitive , and there's so many shit talkers on that game it's unbeleivable.

I think that having gaming as a hobby is good, it releases you from stress from work, college e.t.c While gaming should NEVER be put in front of real life e.g. homework a rugby match or a (football match for the Americans :) ) You should have other hobbies and sports, you should go out and socialize. Overall gaming is fun, it should not be too competitive and gaming is well just a game.
It's also important to keep your fitness up as well, because well, when youre on games you eat ALOT more... food just doesn't satisfy your hunger when youre gaming. So exercise is important to keep you fit and healthy.
Gaming should be fun and in moderation!

You sure picked an epic game to get back into SP. BioShock has the best storytelling of any game I've ever played (except maybe MGS4, which relies heavily on having played the other games for story).

This comment no doubt will be overlooked by everyone, i just thought id say, i used to play xbox for fun, when it was rainy etc, then i started to win all my games on GoW and started to turn into a bitch, now i play xbox for fun again and i think you get to a point where xbox isnt fun even when you win, its so much more fun when you get on with people instead of hating. bioshock owns, is that hard difficulty? I finished it on easy haha, i was too afraid to play it on hard :P Probably one of my favourite games of all time. Also, when you first start playing the game, hacking seems like a bit of a chore, and feels like an annoyance, but once u get some hacking thingys (forgot the name) and you get better, they're pretty fun to do. :P
Its got a sick storyline, with twists and shit, and its jumpy at places, and it just doesnt really bore me, like other games do, i enjoyed it quite a lot :)

Hutch is sooo right, people get soo sucked into the game. Always feeling better than others based on how they do in their own little video game world. I was just like that, but it was never good. I always isolated myself from my friends. Now I only play when i'm bored and finished my homework. And I've been talking to my friends more and going out, and it's sooo much healther physically and mentally.

I think it's harder for people to remember that the primary purpose of games like COD4 and Halo 3 is fun because of it's undoubtedly competitive nature. Most gamers just need to chill out and laugh at themselves when they get their dome raped out of left field by a sniper (nudge, nudge) instead of getting frustrated. Recently I've got this easy-going mindset down, and not only do I enjoy my games a lot more, I'm doing better at them because I'm much more relaxed.

hutch is right i looked at my old PS2 collection every game 100% complete even tedious boring ones i then looked at all my PS3 and 360 games...barely anything was properly played through even though most of them were great. All because COD4 and the online its addictive and kinda takes away from all sp games i mean i played assasins creed again today and loved it but i know if i saw the 2 together id pick COD4 just for the competetiveness!

amen IHIuTcH, well said about taking things too seriously. ive done the same, thinking i had to be better, impress people, and all that stuff. sure, u might become an item, something to envy or show off, but theres no real value or fun in that. i got back into fallout 3 again after i kinda realized this type of stuff. you should think about getting that game if (dare i say it, but could happen) mw2 sucks.its really similar to this is you like bioshock.

I think you want a balance. Having fun is the only thing I play for now but think about what built your channel, fun or competitive? or both, and there is the balance. Personally, I think it was a mix of the two. This video has 5k views and a 5 star rating but is meant for fun/expressing your views, but your GB are meant for a competitive audience and have much the same reviews. That there is my 10 cents.

Yeah i really liked this game i've got all the trophies *achievements* and i love how its not like an easy hack n slash game, on the hardiest difficulty i liked how you could think about mixing up ur plasmids and choosing the right tonics and making you think, also i love the way you can figure out killing the big daddies. Also you'll find out that you can take pictures of the enemies and be graded for the quality of that picture.

I beat this game 4 times (PS3) and I have the platinum trophy. It's really worth it to save the little sisters on every play through, even if you are trying to beat Survivor mode without using Vita-chambers. Also, if you're tired of hacking turrets/security bots you should max out your research (using the camera) for them. If you max out the research hacking a bot will be instantaneous.

I too have experienced complete isolation just to play video games , i would never go out , i would always be in my room playing games all day and night , i only ever spent 10 minutes outside of my room to use the toilet and get a small snack , i still play games , yet not as much.
Single Player games like Oblivion are the type of games i really enjoy now, COD4 has gotten to competitive , and there's so many shit talkers on that game it's unbeleivable.

I think that having gaming as a hobby is good, it releases you from stress from work, college e.t.c While gaming should NEVER be put in front of real life e.g. homework a rugby match or a (football match for the Americans :) ) You should have other hobbies and sports, you should go out and socialize. Overall gaming is fun, it should not be too competitive and gaming is well just a game.

It's also important to keep your fitness up as well, because well, when youre on games you eat ALOT more... food just doesn't satisfy your hunger when youre gaming. So exercise is important to keep you fit and healthy.

also wanted to say that people are much too obsessed with games, many kids do not want to do their homework after school to play xbox. nowadays lazy kids are infront of imaginary screen. I hate to admit but it would be a better world without video games, people swear, get frustrated...etc. Its ashame kids do not play outside more often like in the old days. Remember that it is better to enrich your life in the future rather then sitting and pressing with your fingers and looking at a screen.

Lazy kids are lazy kids. If they weren't playing video games, they wouldn't do homework due to another reason. The majority of people in my school neglect homework because they were out drinking/smoking/whatever with their friends, not because they were gaming on XBOX.

You sure picked an epic game to get back into SP. BioShock has the best storytelling of any game I've ever played (except maybe MGS4, which relies heavily on having played the other games for story).

And like you were saying, it can do bad shit to you. I've become mildly depressed before, when I took gaming too seriously. It really took a toll on my social life. Too much of one thing is never good...
But now I realized, I got stuff like Football, Family, Friends, etc. And I casually game. Works out a hell of alot better.
P.S. Play Fallout 3 next. It's a single player game you can't miss out on.

This comment no doubt will be overlooked by everyone, i just thought id say, i used to play xbox for fun, when it was rainy etc, then i started to win all my games on GoW and started to turn into a bitch, now i play xbox for fun again and i think you get to a point where xbox isnt fun even when you win, its so much more fun when you get on with people instead of hating. I think everyone once in a while needs to sit back and realise they wont get anything out of talking shit on xbox.

bioshock owns, is that hard difficulty? I finished it on easy haha, i was too afraid to play it on hard :P Probably one of my favourite games of all time. Also, when you first start playing the game, hacking seems like a bit of a chore, and feels like an annoyance, but once u get some hacking thingys (forgot the name) and you get better, they're pretty fun to do. :P

Hutch is sooo right, people get soo sucked into the game. Always feeling better than others based on how they do in their own little video game world. I was just like that, but it was never good. I always isolated myself from my friends. Now I only play when i'm bored and finished my homework. And I've been talking to my friends more and going out, and it's sooo much healther physically and mentally.

I think it's harder for people to remember that the primary purpose of games like COD4 and Halo 3 is fun because of it's undoubtedly competitive nature. Most gamers just need to chill out and laugh at themselves when they get their dome raped out of left field by a sniper (nudge, nudge) instead of getting frustrated. Recently I've got this easy-going mindset down, and not only do I enjoy my games a lot more, I'm doing better at them because I'm much more relaxed.
