  • ooooo nuddee

  • OH SNAP I REALLY WASN'T EXPECTING THAT !!!!!!

    Total Star Wars moment !!!!!!!

  • At 2:20, I always hear "Coming up next, on 'Mythbusters'..." in my head.

  • gerard needs to loose the side burns....

  • It kind of ruined it when they said Erik only loved her because she looks like his mother............

Turned from super romantic to creepy

  • I just thought of something, unless Erik was taunt how a human face should look, why would he have grown up thinking he was already hideous? Unless Gerald had told him, what other reason would he have? You would think that even his own father could find something nice to say about him or could possibly look past that.

  • i love erik =)

  • @twiwonder: well, Erik's mom looked a hell of a lot like Christine, and they emphasize it better than some lady with makeup on.

  • Frankly, I think it's stupid that they use the same actress for this lady as christine. gee...

  • Who else thinks Erik's dad is -was- a total jerk?

  • Comment removed

  • wow Erik's dad is kinda a total douche! XD leaving pregnant woman coast to coast. and i can see where Erik got his sideburns from...

  • Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • When he says "I love her" I think I died.

  • About the fact that the younger flashback Gerard doesn't say anything, it is kind of very effective actually. How enraging, when she tells him she's pregnant, and she wants to marry him. He just says . . . nothing. That whole lack of reaction-- that might just be enough to make a young, impressionable girl try to kill herself. If she was pregnant she would have had crazy hormones anyway-- his lack of reaction makes him seem even more cold and unfeeling. I think it works.

  • Oh, come on Gerard, this erik wasn't even freakin' evil!!!!

In Webber's musical or the book I understand people being worried for Christine, but this phantom isn't even crazy- much. He wouldn't hurt her, and he shows her himself by his own choice.

  • this is like Star Wars "Erik...I'm your father!" *dramatic music* haha XD

  • @SwonanaMakaroni 'Cept Erik knew it and poor Lukie didn't. Though Erik does get his own "Noooooo!" in the picnic scene. Dude, Charles Dance is now my master of all things painful-screaming. "WHYYYYYYYY?!"

  • >.< I don't find Erik dangerous to Christine at all. He may blow everyone ELSE up but not her.

  • waaiiiitttttttt

he has all this time to explain to Christine his love life's story, yet he kept urging her to leave? wth? XD

  • Erik's face cannot be nearly as ugly as his father's soul. He should be the one condemed to live undergroung.

  • Erik forever :)

  • omg his father !!!

  • I wish Erik would punjab Gerrard......when you are married you don't fool around, you also don't lie to someone you are sleeping with..........since they didn't have birth control then guys then should be aware a kid is possible.....I love how he white-washes it...well my wife was a slut (ex. baby could've been mine or 6 others) but I married her and I didn't want to screw things up with my lover so I lied...URGH!

  • I was shocked when I heard the music played at the "Ballet Rehersal" It is the final number to the Ballet Giselle. Way to sneak it in!

  • I HATE when people spell eriK wrong!!!

  • I was like Nooo way! When Gerard said that he was a married man!

  • @Diplomatica36 who> himslef or erik???

  • @thenana011 Himself

  • I don't like that she is effectively his mom, seems like a cop out on behalf of the writers. Why couldn't he just lover her, and not make it to do with mommy issues.

  • Actually, I think it's a reference to the Kay novel. In the Kay novel Christine looked exactly like his mother (who was very cruel to him), and it's almost like her soul was given a second chance to love Erik properly. yeah, weird mommy issues, but it seemed like that to me.

  • @saveoursanity The Kay-novel came out in the exact same year as the movie unless it was put in last-minute I doubt that's how it came to be...

  • @Greya77 The ''mommy issues'' also make me a bit uncomfortable...But then I'm thinking: Well, Erik knew his mother loved him so much despite how he looked, to him, she was an angel...Then he hears Christine, and she reminds him of his mother. The only person who ever loved him and kissed his face...So he believes Christine must love him too, not as his mother per se, but just for the love hes desparate for all his life. That a woman can look at him and smile....

  • @Bomberzone1745 I agree 100%. There are some versions where the mask just doesn't seem to fit, such as the David Staller version (though his deformity was awesome) and the 1943 one. This is probably the best-fitting mask ever.

  • Teri Polo did a great job, but I wish they had used a different actress for his mother. As it is it's very unsubtle.

  • this is based on a theatrical version, and in that version (I think), the same actress played both...it would have worked onstage, but onscreen it is a little obvious, I agree.

  • His Name shouldn't be Gerard. It doesn't fit him. His name should be something else like,...Bernard, or Elijah.

  • so weird..him having Gerard this name. It only makes me think of the macho Gerard Butler~:P

  • Thank you for uploading this! I love it.

  • Does ANYONE know the title of the song at 7:40?? I'm dying to know!

  • @hollykmck

I beleive it's Andre Gretry's "Richard Coer de Lion" - and what she sings at 6.38 is the same piece

  • He is a cruel God, indeed.

  • I love Erik!

    Gerard is a git.

  • @lilanthia But I loved Gerard. Such a great character, for a git...

  • I'm gonna name my son Erik. xD

  • ohmygoshshock! Me too!

  • @IAngelofMusicI You and the other 10 thousand people who love Erik out there (which is ME by the way) :D

  • nice way to drop the bomb on christine Gerard:

Ur in Eriks cave, yeah thats the Phantoms name, oh yeah hes the phantom of the opera, and he loves you alot and is going to keep u here forever, so how was your day?

  • Oh, and by the way, Im his father too!

  • @gUrAcoX463 God damn it, I wanted Erik to tell her so that they could work things out. Gah....

  • he's doin' the powder thing, a bit like Leroux

  • Anyone know what song Christine sings at the audition?? It's beautiful!

  • The song Christine sings at the bistro is "Par le rang et par l'opulence" from the opera Le Fille du Régiment.

  • "you are magic too."

<3 i love eric (as a character not like a creepy twilight fan lol)

  • heeeeeyyy! Don't make fun of us twilight fans *sniffsniff* lol. I know what u mean though, some obsess entirely over JUST Edward Cullen. I agree with you, Eric is a wonderful character!!

  • but if you can admit that, youre not a creepy twilight fan

    congrats lol :)

  • ERIK. Not Eric. NOT Eric. E-R-I-K.

  • @DesireeCullen And then she said "Eric". Erik has a K, hun. Just for future reference, not beating on you, promise.

  • Gerald Butler wore that same shirt that Charles Dance wore!

  • Maybe so, but I don't think he fit it as well as Gerard, lol.

  • Charles Dance wore it better.

  • Makes me wonder if the younger Gerard actor is a mute. Thanks for the interesting info, Emily.

  • Man oh man. I really, really dislike Gerard in this part. What a pr***. Gets one girl pregnant (and if he's dumb enough to get into bed with a floozie than it's his own stupid fault) goes off and gets the next pregnant without even telling her that he's married! Okay, points for taking care of Erik later on, but still.

Also: this part reminds me how much Teri Polo had to learn for this role - ballet pirouettes aren't something you learn in a day.

  • Actually, according to IMDB - Teri Polo had earlier taken 12 years worth of ballet lessons. So she actually was adept in that section of the movie. However, as she couldn't sing opera, she and Charles Dance (who also couldn't sing opera), had to spend hours learning to mime to the opera arias and trios. And these were later dubbed in with actual opera singer's voices.

  • Thanks for the info! I thought she was looking very well doing the dancing but I really know next to nothing of ballet and couldn't tell how much training a dancer has.

I guessed about the singing though because even I know taht no one sings like that with just a few months of training. (See Gerard Butler as evidence!) I'd love to know who dubbed Charles Dance, though. His voice, both talking and singing, are lovely.

  • That is French operatic tenor, Gerard Garino. Isn't his voice beautiful?

  • Meltingly beautiful. Thanks so much for that info; I'm off to find what google, wiki and youtube have on him.

  • Gerard did a wonderful job! >:(

  • @RabiaB Gerard Garino. Freaking amazing, no?! :D

  • @ShadowinEX

Yes, beautiful voice. I have to go and google him, thx!

  • "Let he/she who is trying to appear clever and meaningful but hasn't the wits to come up with something clever and meaningful use random bible quotes."

And I'm pretty d**n sure I never left a wife behind, knocked up some girl whom I never told the little detail about my marriage and then turned my back on her.
