I just got a greatsword recently (a fellow amtgard player gave it to me because i was a natural with it.) The only problem is that i have only been playing for 4 weeks and i would like to see videos of how the greatsword is against other weapons. Possibly even some training videos. I do not want to be one of those players who ever looks clumsy with a great-weapon. thank you.

The swords are designed for safety and not for looks. I'd rather be able to play again tomorrow than be brained today by something a bit more aesthetically pleasing.

those swords are styled in the manner acceptable by their sport. If you want to see larp swords, watch a larp video.

How does that matter at all? Just teaches you blade control. I can still do every wrap, spin, and 512 that you can do with a bat with my flat blade.

Or, you could just make the handle oblong, and its virtually impossible to flat someone.

flat blades are not nearly as fast because of the possibility to cross wind with the flat. They are nice to see on the field, but they arent the fighters favorite in this game.

Thats total bullshit.. crosswinds? flatblades are faster because they have less wind resistance. Your bats are faster becase they're 4 oz pixie sticks. People don't like flat blades because they are more difficult to use.

I actually started out as an amt fighter. Used round blades for awhile, and switched to flatblades after a year. Wanted to find a sport that used them more prevalently, and allowed full contact hitting.

There's NOTHING fast about SCA combat. We pad the weapon instead of the person and hit just as hard. Good block/strike on your SCA vid though.

@thanson77 - I suggest you watch more SCA fight videos. Or better yet, get to an SCA heavy practice, put some armour on and then tell me how "slow" SCA fighting is.

I have. It's way slower. Good body mechanics can overcome a lot of the clumsiness of fighting in list legal armor with dense rattan, but you still aren't moving as fast as good amtgard fighting. I suggest you hit up an amtgard field and tell me how "fast" your Heavy list SCA fighting is.

@thanson77 - I would think it's obvious by the videos I have shot that I do / have done both. I can tell you for sure that top fighters in SCA are easily as fast as Amtgard, and the reverse works as well.

I can also reasonably predict that you will post some childish "I know you are / what am I" post and try to claim victory / expertise. I would say the videos speak for themselves.

We have a lot of cross gamers in amtgard. Eventually peeps get to a point where they want to swing a piece of wood at people. Cool beans. Once you adjust to the head shots and slower reaction time due to equipment (yours and theirs)it's pretty chill all in all, but we are all bound by newtonian physics after all.

@thanson77 I'm actually a Amtgarder that's been around for YEARS.. I was referring to EFKA's (now deleted) comment. I was only taking vid of the local sca peeps fighter practice a while back.
