I think clean kills are better

on my ranch if we see heards of pigs we'll get on the gator and chase'em then when we have the shot, the guy on the passenger side (me or one of my buddies) will pull out an AR15 and just mow'em down

but when we see one alone or one that is bigger than the rest .

the I'll take cover in a tree or somthin and take a head shot with my 30-6 deer rifle

its much easier to take head shots and/or heart shots

Yes, that is a big and very old boar for East Texas-especially for a bow kill. I shot a sow that was twice as big the next year though. It's not going to appear on any Discovery Channel documentaries, but it's still a nice pig.

That's one way to look at it, Theronimus, but you need to realize that these things are horrible pests in Texas, have no natural predator because they're not indigenous, and multiply like rabbits. Trust me, these guys are doing someone a great favor by hunting these things down. And the real plus is that these hogs are good eatin' and have a lot of meat on them.

Stack them high. Actually, we have the smaller ones (about 40-pounders) butchered and made into chops, bacon, loins, etc. The larger hogs are left to the scavengers and are picked clean in about a week. It's a management practice.

This is a good size boar but nothing to write home about. We shot 700+ lb boars in Baghdad, those are real monsters. Real big boars in Turkey as well.

I can't speak with much authority (as I've only hunted them in Texas), but they are, as they say, "covered up in them." We hunt all private land though.  There are pigs in TN, AR, OK, FL and everywhere in between.

We hunt with a bunch of guys we've met over the years. Getting a contact is the best way to do it for free. My dad works with a guy who's brother lives down there and that's how we got hooked up. You do not need a hunting license to hunt hogs in Texas. We get one anyway so we can shoot coyotes, bobcats, etc.

man finding the place to hunt is the #1 task in hunting , this is my 1st year hunting but i guy i know through work is taking me deer hunting on his land this deer season..I kinda lucked out , all i have to bring is myself. I dont even have to buy a blackpowder gun lol...Once that hunt is over though im prolly gonna be sol , cuase i cant expect to hunt on his land all of the time . The lease is the hardest thing to get ...usally leases here in ok go for 7-15 bux an acre...Good luck sir
