Ringo Starr narrated Seaon 1 and a selection of Season 2 for the US, for the reason he was Mr Conductor on Shining Time Station. But when George CArlin became Mr C, he renarrated the episodes, and the later VHS and DVD releases featured Geroge's narrations. Though we have 2 DVDs with Ringo's narrations.
It's not really about the actual size, James is pretty much the same size as Edward (although he has 6 driving wheels, not 4) but James hangs out with Gordon and Henry, so he is considered one of the 'big engines' I don't know why Thomas is supposedly big, but maybe he doesn't count.

That never made sense to me either. I do know they don't like that Edward likes shunting. "tender engines" don't usually like to shunt..they think that's for tank engines to do.
I watched one episode that said Edward was the oldest on the line...so you'd think he'd get more respect.
@PowerPlusProductions Post 2006? lol call me old but the series took a dive after Season 5 (and even Season 5 was pretty bad in itself). Personally I think the series was done for after George Carlin left.

Personally I think they should have just kept the Season 12 production method, added in individual voice actors, and brought back Ringo.

HE was the storyteller if you watched this episode on VHS or DVD but if you watched the episode on TV, teh storyteller is George Carlin

The Narrator said that the engines are all bigger than Edward I don't know if James is bigger than Edward, but Thomas is smaller than Edward.
