  • Other countries that have been threw this say security is on EVERYONES mind . Not massive battles but young foolish kids that want your shoes . Lots of people buy guns but hardly anyone buys ammo . Ammo is not fun to look at . Billions of ammo components exist in the U.S . But Primers will be next to impossible to obtain . Primers are very cheap .... right now

  • Nonperishable foods would be useful, so would condoms.

  • Another thing you can do if you have very little money to invest (on the order of 10s a month) is to look into foreign currency coins when you go to the coin shops. Some dealers have a box of mixed foreign coins for say a quarter each. Go through them, it's not unusual to find things like 1 Swiss franc, 100 Japanese yen, 1 Polish Zloty, and the like. That's already a steal, plus those currencies will likely fare a lot better than the dollar. You could also look for copper pennies in your change.

  • Please, someone out there, stock up on weed, i dont wanna live in a world without weed. If theres gonna be alcohol and tobacco, there better be marijuana.

  • Nobody will barter food unless food is no longer available or is in extremely short supply. And the only way that will happen is if the world is coming to an end. Unless that happens, then anyone can go down to his/her local supermarket or grocery store and pick up food items without any issue. If the world does come to an end, then who cares...we'll all be dead anyway.

  • Any commodity that appreciates is a worthwhile one to purchase.

Gold, Almond Trees, Canned Salmon, and buy it fast!

Money is worth more now than it ever will be.

  • Supplies are finite, as much as possible grow a survival garden, if you have no spare land then use vertical soil pots mixed with powdered rock dust and charcoal, inter-plant your crops with annual mexican marigolds (tagetes minuta) for protection against pests and diseases, stagger your plantings so as to have fresh produce every week or every few days. Use only certified GE-FREE heirloom seeds of natural genetic varieties so you can also produce your own seeds.

  • HELP EACH OTHER,simple!

    STOP THE DAMN FEAR!

STOP eating meat=FEAR=CREATES DARK energies=being alsO cattle..

  • coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, ammunition, sugar, salt. toilet paper

  • @17seventySIX I couldn't agree more!

  • you are right on that point if you cant eaven invest on a couple ounce of gold a month there is something you still can do wich is spend some time gathering a little comunity of like minded people that will work as a whole to make a better tomorow for evry one of them, but you need land and security (weapon) so you can protect your own against the governement or any body that wana take whats yours.

  • dont invest in chef boyardee...................buy seed and a peice of land

  • stop spending on your dumb cell phone bill....suck it up no a/c anymore, grow your own food, breed rabbit that your gonna eat i dont know figuit it out

  • if you cant invest in eaven only a couple pound of silver well im sorry but there is not much of a tomorow for you why did you have children anyway???????????breed them to slavery?

  • hand cranked solar radios and flash lights are a good idea with back up replacement batteries or back up radio/lights...

  • Barter goods are useful in an extremely primitive economy. But try trading an elephant for an egg. At some point there needs to be a currency for transactions even remotely sophisticated. Let currencies compete with each other on a truly free market basis and let people decide. Gunvernment controlled Fractional Reserve Central Banking will plunder us all blind every single time.

  • @SynapticTransmission The government doesn't control the fractional reserve central banking. The Federal Reserve does.

  • One of your older vids, yet, still very prevalent.

  • Boring...

  • Whenever I see items on sale at the supermarket like canned goods or boxed goods, I buy extra. Just watch what is on sale and buy more. Stock up on water, food, ammo, coffee, tobacco, sugar, salt, toilet paper, etc. Might want to buy a crapload of tuna as well since any seafood is going to skyrocket thanks to our elected corporate whores.

  • fasterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • Chances are the 'energy crisis' is going to get worse and prices are going to skyrocket as well. Perhaps maybe investing in a solar oven as part of a disaster plan will work; As far as food goes, I want to mention that white rice keeps the longest (8-10 years in air tight container) with out going bad. Brown rice with bran still on will go rancid quicker.

  • continued: I would also keep honey( doesn't grow bacteria), vinegar ( 5% acetic acid) and tea( tannic acid) on hand as they are natural remedies for various skin ailments and wound treatments and you can eat them if needed.

  • I am raising chickens, geese, ducks, guineas(cheap investments), and milk goats(moderately priced@50.00 each).

All of these animals can free range(live on grass/bugs) during spring through fall, but must have some food source during winter.

They provide eggs, meat, and milk (products) in return.

They WILL be worth their weight in gold soon.

I also plan on pigs which can also be fed on pasture.

For those in towns and cities, rabbits are a good bet.

  • Three doe rabbits and one buck can provide a lot of meat, and can be fed grass clippings, old bread, left over salads(without the dressing), raw potato starting to go to seed, cracked corn, and of course a few spare carrots.

They take up little space, and are quiet.

Their dung maybe used in your garden as fertilizer.

  • believe it or not...nickels do and will have value..also pennies made befor 1982..because they are worth more than face value...

  • I prepared by converting my home to a net-zero solar powered home that uses not gas or oil...I made a video about it called, "Preparing for Peak Oil"....start with junk silver than work up to silver dollars and then one tenth gold coins....

  • I do a little bit of both sides, stocking up on canned and dried goods. And I buy a little silver here and there. Really, whats a few ounces a month? The common uber dork spends hella cash on video game consoles, and that crap is obsolete 3-5 years from now. Sell your old systems and games you no longer play. If you're on a budget, grab silver rounds or 1/2 ounce rounds at a local coin shop---those will still add up. You don't always have to grab tons of 1 oz. Silver American Eagles every time.

  • I started food storage a few years back and learned a few things- dehydrated foods have a very long shelf life. Emergency essentials, honeyville farms, efoods direct- check them out and try the products. You can get storable dried milk in bulk for cheaper than you pay now- and prices will rise rise rise. Store rice grains dried fruit and dehydrated eggs- they even have meat. I've bought a few large cans but haven't used it . Buy cans of soup, vegetables, and fruit.

  • @Anett7373 do you have ant tips for storing things like rice, flour or sugar for long term storage? I have looked at the side of 50 LB sacks of rice and the use by date is usually 1 year. I saw the same for bags of flour.

I noticed that sugar does not seem to have a use by date.

Any tips for storing these things long term (without costing an arm and a leg).

    Thanks

  • @penguinistas

Sugar NEVER goes bad(just like honey).

Store in any air tight container.

I used old left over washed out screw cap pretzel jugs to store sugar in(probably have over 20# already stored that way).

I suggest investing in livestock of some sort, which is much cheaper than investing in gold/silver.

For instance 1 chick costs just $ 2.00 dollars and can free range on grass, yet supplies (old standard breed) eggs and about 8 pounds of meat, in the end.

  • @penguinistas White rice in a airtight container will keep for 8-10 years.

  • @GuysCallMeShawna How would you get the container to be airtight? Won't there always be some air in the container?

  • @1XMarksSpot : Air tight means once it's closed, no air moisture and rodents/pests can get in. you are confusing it with vacuum sealing which would remove all air and create an air tight vacuum seal...to different things. Vacuum sealing is good, too!

  • @penguinistas I am really a novice at this- I live in a city apartment- cant get no goat or chickens! However- it looks like some valuable advice has been listed on this page. White rice last a good long time and it's a great value - the companies i have listed above have blogs and recipes - they also sell big pails with wheat , beans, flour and rice- with all that is needed to store. If you get your own food and then order their air tight buckets with the mylar bags you're good to go-

  • @Anett7373

Personally, I think it would be a good idea to get out of the city at the first "sign" of hyperinflation.

Unless you have an "army" available to guard your rice, wheat, beans, flour in your air tight buckets.

Furthermore, even in the city you could keep rabbits, for they are considered pets, not livestock.

You'll need a source of meat, to go with those vegetable.

  • Anyone notice the UK pound is going down as well? They are just as much screwed as the US.

  • @smasila Yeah, it's going down also. But then again, The Bank of England is privately owned and also runs the Federal Reserve. So no surprises there...

  • Cigarettes, invest in cigarettes. They'll be worth their weight in gold!

  • They get stale in 3 months.

  • thanks for thinking through this -

my wife has had me watching lost a little with her - and it is right up the survival alley...

I would avoid spam - as it is chemical laden -

be it as it may that we are going to be survivalizing - protection would be learning martial skills - and accumulate TOOLS FOR SURVIVAL - I made a point to buy a water filter straw, space blanket, and I also have a collection of over 100 vegetable/herb seeds - and silver, and grains - HEADLAMP! Lighters!Knife/Hatchet...

  • Imported things will skyrocket. Coffee, Tea,

Olive Oil, Spices and you can't have too much SUGAR. Should be great barter items.

Check my channel for some predictions and tips.

I might start a coffee shop after the collapse.

  • @horsehorsehorse400 LOL In the United States, almost all of the stuff we buy are imported.

  • It doesn't make sense to buy those expensive brand name canned items. You could 2 or 3 store brand cans for the price of one brand name can. I have been buying a few extra canned items such as fruit, assorted vegetables, soups, tuna, beans and evaporated milk. The milk should be a great barter item to anyone with kids. I try to buy canned foods that contain various nutrients, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, etc. Canned foods have hyperinflated by about 4 times recently.

  • The reality is in regards to metals is that ALL metals will eventually be going up in price, including zinc. The cost to produce a penny will become to expensive for the the U.S. mint to produce. So do expect at some point for pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters to all be discontinued (or have limited use) at some point in the future because of the cost to produce them will become too expensive. We all will all have to use some kind of card or something for money transactions

  • @1lain "ALL metals will eventually be going up in price"

Historically, metals have tended to go down in price.

    en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Simon-Ehrlich_wager

Why would that trend change now?

  • @1lain Or just create our own currency, instead of using a card as electronic money :)

  • You can still find tons of cheap food. Big Lots has organic items for next to nothing. Do not buy the crap! Get natural products. Just buy alot of the one thing that is cheap.

  • Alex Jones is a nutjob.

  • Be prepared to trade spices...... just sayin...

    The Swede

  • SurvivalBlog is my favorite site. It is a well balanced approach.

Start with 6 months of canned and packaged foods, some means of protection and then 2 years or more of long term food storage. Use a 'food calculator' to determine the minimum amout needed per person per year and budget yourself. Get out of debt.

To do it all cost lots of money, yet food is still relatively cheap. Start now. It will take lots of time to learn and do. One will sleep better as a result.

  • Good video buddy....You are saying and doing the right thing.....

  • Almost everyone can afford to spend $5 - 15 a month to buy some silver. Pick up a 90% silver 1/2 dollar for $6 - 7, or 4 or 5 silver dimes for $6. You don't have to spend a fortune.

As for food, watch your local stores sale ads. Look for their "loss leaders". Stores always have a few items like meat or produce that they have put at the lowest prices just to get you to come to their store. Stock up on these items as much as you can, you will never get them cheaper.

  • Invest in tents, garden tools/ tiller, bicycle, car tires, cook stove, seeds, firewood, coffee, liquor, tarps, PVC piping, & rain barrels to catch rainwater, water filters, pain meds, rice, wheat, pasta, ammo, plastic bags, roofing nails, shingles, blankets & shoes Silver rounds are the best precious metals as they are smaller value amounts. Get to know your neighbors & work together with friends to prepare. But the best preparation of all is knowing Jesus Read Romans, get saved & seek His will

  • People that want things to barter but cant afford gold and silver. Buy Soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, razor blades, canned goods, Dried foods, water filters, batteries, outdoor cooking grills. You can use them and also barter them for other goods.

  • @TheCashistrash

    Don't forget dental floss, medications

  • Maybe trade in $100 for pennies,,, that would equal 10,000 pennies.. Im sure in the future, pennies might be usefull to for ammunition for slingshots and such..

u just melt the pennies into a copper ball and .. kill sumone with it.

  • just an added note for those who don't know, but only 1982 pennies and before are copper, later pennies are zinc

  • Seeds and remember the Spice War and Water

  • google

Top 100 Items to Disappear First During a National Emergency

    baconreport

  • thanks! That is actually a great list, very concise and a lot of things I never thought of. I will definitely keep some of these items in mind when I do my shopping!

  • it seems that imported items like coffee would have a relatively high barter value. protectionism is in the air

  • ammo ...gardening tools ...plastic and plastic bags ...duct tape ...nails and screws ...basic hand tools saws , hammers , tapes ,string {mason type} , tar fot repairing roofs ,shingles ,2x4 ,2x6 lumber...hope this helps ...God bless

  • Comment removed

  • I live in Hawaii....So all i will need is a "fishing pole".......And some sandals.......LOL......Suckas!

  • Some Hard White Wheat and a grain grinder, rice, sugar, lentils, salt, oats. Then buy some 5-6 gallon buckets, and get some mylar bags and oxygen absorbers, store the food yourself for 20-30 years.

  • dehydrated food in bulk orders are available and very economical

  • A wood stove is a must! You can use it outside if you cant install it. cooking, heating water and for warmth. LED flashlights, maybe a low voltage led set of lights in the house or trailor.

  • live chickens??

    toilet paper...

    chocolate!

  • seeds for growing food is good too.

  • A lot of you are thinking for summer and spring, what about WARM clothing, snowshoes, rope, GPS? idk think for year round. Also maybe some basic navigation skills

  • Purchase MRE rations. One MRE can last you for a full day. I was forced to make one last for three.

  • Lots and Lots of ammo. Also canning supplies, jars & lids. Extra weapons for hunting. All good items to trade or barter with if necessary.

  • lots of guns too

  • One thing I am doing it might sound dumb but my son had two really bad teeth I had his teeth fixed and i am getting mine fixed. Sounds dumb huh! But if things really get bad Would you be able to get that tooth taken care of. Nothing worse than a bad tooth ache on top of what ever happens.

  • Certainly a way to protect yourself from the rationing and shortages from socialized medicine.

  • Store up plywood, lumber, nails. Other than that, have a nice day!!! LOL

What is weird is that to here this kind of stuff just five years ago you would have to be listening to a hard core survivalist type. Not anymore. City boys like me are doing it. You have to prepare the best you can.

There is less fear and desperation in your life knowing that you are prepared the best you can be. Most people are not prepared on ANY level for even the shortest duration. Most people are foolish.

  • @Noisycowonline What city are you from?

  • antibiotics, bandages, anything you'd normal have x10, propane 20lbs and 1lb cans, propane and kerosene heaters, emergency food bars, water filters, start saving every empty container that is rated as food grade, every bucket, every empty plastic bottle, LED lighting, shortwave radio, defensive weapons, if you don't like guns, at least get canister Bear spray, wrist rocket, something, and did I mention water? - most important. You will have to barter for things you forgot.

  • tools, oil lamps, lots of Kerosene (it is cheaper now in the summer by far), blankets, sleeping bags, a box of 100 t-shirts (can be had for 100 dollars), purell hand lotion, bars, soaps, shampoos, stored food and supplies for any animals/pets, pedal generator (think Gilligans Island), crank flashlights, crank batteries, lots of alcaline batteries all sizes, med supplies,

  • Store fuels, fuel pellets, fuel cans, WATER!!!, bikes, canned beans, chillis, tuna, salmon, shovels, garbage bags, 5 gal buckets with toilet seats, lots of toilet paper, paper towels, a generator, whiskey, cigs (only good for a year),

  • Browse to Costco and click on emergency food. Their bucket of freeze dried food for $89 is a great deal. Also look at the Shelf Reliance brand they resell. It is a hell of a lot of food for $54.00. - six #10 freeze dried protein mixes. No, NOT as good as Mountain House or some others quality-wise - it is essentially fake meat LOL - but who cares .. we are taking survival food here.

  • Don't forget your medications, if you need them. Get extras, if you can. Dental floss.

Buy extra compost. Buy the seeds to nastertiums and marigolds. Why? Those flowers act as natural bug repellents in the veggie garden... garlic too.

    Good vid

  • First things first. Go to your bank, close your account, or just leave couple of bucks. Take the cash home, and try to get all your friends and neighbors to do the same. This will collapse the banks, and we'll be facing some hard times, right now that's the price we have to start paying if we don't wish to be slaves to these sick people. Thank You,

    Mike

  • Mike - instead of taking fiat currency home from the bank and drawing a lot of attention to yourself (if you are withdrawing a lot of hard cash - buy food, silver, etc online. Commodities that will hold some value. Those slips of paper will not hold value.

  • Why not start accumulating base metal coins, like your nickels and quarters, just collect as much as you can at home, if inflation takes off then you hold government guaranteed base metal bullion (75%copper 25%nickel) coins which you paid no 'premium' to aquire and which will be worth more than their face value, but if deflation occurs then you have some saved currency sitting at home, safe from bank-runs and bank collapses, thieves wont bother with them?nor confiscation, how can you lose;)

  • Food items have limited shelf life, that's the only drawback. One thing I think is the most important is water - we all need to store clean drinking water, but there's problems with the volume and weight, and maintaining sterility. Has anyone heard of a solar-powered water distiller, or something like that? That would be a fabulous investment, if it exists. Turn dirty water into steam and re condense the clean vapor into drinking water.

  • try ecoloblue, that 'll help a lot

  • One idea is for us to form sustainable trading/ bartering groups within our close community. In other words, trade what we can produce or our individual skills for one another. This makes complete sense both economically and in terms of our basic human tribal nature. For example, I have computer skills, I can fix computers and troubleshoot software problems; I might trade this service with someone who can bake bread, and we'd mutually agree on a reasonable quantity.

  • Get a generator and fuel. Learn how to cook and distill water, solar. Eat the weeds here on youtube along w/ pioneerliving have good info. Guns and ammo are also a very wise investment. Pau D' Arco is a naural antibiotic that you can get at a health food store. Also many veggies will grow when you buy organic at heallth stores. The dries beans will sprout and grow along w/ potato of all kinds, large tomato, winter squash garlic and onion. Buy perenial & self propigating plants.

  • Heirloom seeds for trade, food and security. Have hand tools and lenty of gypsum, lime, peat, manure, bone, blood, alphalpha and kelp meal on hand. Plz be careful on what types of pre pakaged food you are stockpiling. Many already have GMO and it is linked to infertilty and other health issues. Mike Adams health ranger is a good source of info.White sugar and table salt are poison. Pink Sherpa salt and raw honey are sound choices. Learn how to collect and save seed form the plants you can grow.

  • for those who can't farm, consider 'freeze dried' food and bulk 'nitrogen flushed' poly buckets of grains and legumes, they are still edible for up to 30yrs when preserved properly, and some canned products I've seen only have a 'recommended use by date' of less than a year

  • Good idea to be prepared.

  • Really good video, although I believe a world war 3 will be well off into the future. Still, good video.

  • I agree a full pantry wouldn't hurt,

Buying canned goods? Get at least 1 or 2 years before expiration,

In tough times high calories are a good thing; don't buy to much soup, an average adult needs 2,000+ calories a day,

Pancake mix, cheap, easy and lasts awhile, white sugar NEVER goes bad,

    ALSO

A reliable high gas mileage vehicle,

Get into a FIXED rate mortgage!!!

    Reduce debt,

"Back-Up" plans for work and housing,

2 families in 1 house is better than both out on the street

  • don't plant in countrys that have winter seasons

  • cheap bulk is the best sort of product to stock up on

  • Yeah that's a good list. Better to stock up now when the dollar buys more because it's probably going to collapse soon. Even if nothing happens the items won't go to waste.

  • Buying non-perishable food is a good idea. You also want to buy extra for bartering purposes and in general to help those out in desperate need. People please be prepared. You're money is going to be devalued severly anyway so you should invest in food now before your dollar goes alot less further. Also stock up on clothing and other survival goods. The peace of mind that comes from this is priceless.

  • Coffee, chocolate, hard candy, batteries, salt, sugar, wheat berries/flour, toilet paper, cake mixes, candles, canned fruit, heirloom seeds, manual can openers, mini book lights, charcoal, spices, herbs, vitamins, soap, matches/lighters, small propane canisters, infant formula (non soy), diapers, ammo... the list goes on - all of these will be valuable barter items.

  • Dude, I like your videos! But ... The US central bank has stated an intent or opened credit facilities. There isn't actually a flood of new liquidity, which is what presumably, would spark inflation. I don't care about the numbers. I agree fundamentally that the dollar probably will decline, but as for the current situation, I think the dollar is probably undervalued against other currencies. However, if and when demand increases, successive quarters of GDP growth, watch out!

  • ... and regarding best barter items?. All those related to vices. Cigarettes, Alcohol, etc.. And should you have vices, quit them right now.

  • Canned food & canned liquids are great, or even an own crop, but all this could be stolen or contaminated overnight. So: put on weight. Watch your fitness, but each Kilo overweight means 7000 kcal that'll make you survive for 3-5 days (dont forget enough water and vitamin pills).

Because food is the only investment you can eat, but overweight is the only investment alternative to food that cannot be stolen.

  • The experiation date is so short on a lot of food, so be sure to only buy what you eat already and continue to restock so the exp. date will be further out. Just stocking food you don't eat ends up getting trashed. Also be careful with items like bread/pancake mixes, someone's son ate some past the expiration date and got really sick. Some type of baceria or mold spores ? or something that grew inside the box and had to be rushed to hospital. Also, LOTS OF WATER can't live without water!

  • Don't be afraid to buy up some food, even though you can't eat it all by the expiration, because if the world doesn't fall apart, God bless it, you can give the food to the food closets with plenty of time to spare.

  • You could do what the Indians do, drink urine. Seriously, it's Hindu culture man. Look it up if you don't believe me. If you have ever wondered why your office mate stinks, that is one possible explanation. And don't pass up the current bargains on peanut butter.

  • Drink urine, huh? One more reason I thank God I was born an American...

  • Buy Food NOW:

    Rev 6:6-8

6 Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

7...8I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.

  • That's deep brother, those verses of scripture send chills down ones spine.

  • bleach!! just 5-10 drops to a gallon of water will purifie. plus its other cleaning applications.

  • In the end gold and a cup of rice are the same thing as far as a investment for inflation, its just gold is easier to trade for other things you want. Thats what money is, a means of exchange something universally valued and dividable, and has a long shelf life. not everyone wants a cup of rice but most will accept a once of gold to exchange it for what they do want. and the inflatable properties of gold are hindered buy how much can be mined each day. unlike paper money.

  • @laplante31. GREAT comments! but, let me ask you what do you think will happen in a world where only small % of people have gold to trade/barter? How would that affect their ability to barter for food/medicine etc.???

Gold is easier to trade than sacks of potatoes BUT b/c of the many factors...it may not be the most efficient or preferred means of trade or store of wealth...specifically in a total economic collapse. I hope to do a video soon about this. thanks again for your input!!

  • In the end people should be doing what you should always do, dont save cash buy stuff that is worth something wither its food gold or even stocks in tangible assets thing that people need not things people want. So save in things you need not what you want. dont buy an 20,000 dollar car when all you need is a 10,000 dollar car, same with a house. just stop wasting your hard work on garbage and save for the future, thats how things should always be.

  • not sure if you've ever seen the TV show "Jericho" but there an episode where they go to a fairground trading post where people bartered.

the top ones from that were: Diesel, Salt, Antibiotics, Food, Alcohol, Cigs. etc.

  • CampersDeath; No. I unplugged from cable a year ago If it doesn't come over the air or on a DVD, we don't watch it. Very interesting list though. Regardless of whether one smokes or drinks, cigarettes and liquor are 2 good bartering items. I'd recommend pint bottles. This isn't your bosses Christmas party. You don't need a case of Glen Fiddich Scotch. :-)

  • @Campers. NO gold or silver...again. If only a few people have gold/silver, then it become LESS valuable means to trading/barter.

Everything you mention will be in demand to both trade/barter/sell OR to use personally. Where as gold is currently a good protection against inflation...but what happens IF a total financial collapse happens and all your money's tied up in gold/silver. You'll trade it all for food, meds, guns, etc.

thanks so much for your input!!!

  • Medicines over the counter and extras of prescribed! If you have a flexible spending account you can use pre-tax dollars to stock up on supplies... Then use them or barter them for other needs in the future.

  • When the Sept '08 crash happened, I started buying extra food. As growby says, I buy 2 or 3 of an item, not one. I've emptied out junk from my cabinets and use the space for something we might need. Realistically, - it's just a buffer against a short term emergency - weeks. We're all toast in a long term national disaster.

Even if you can afford to buy and store years worth of food, do you really think your neighbors won't break in when they see you're family is well fed and they're starving?

  • Soap, shampoo, toothpaste, razors, cheap toothbrushes, cleaning products.

    Grow your own food.

  • shaurz; Add cigarettes and pints of liquor. I believe these will be trade-able for goods and services. My father who lived through the G.D. continued to trade a bottle of scotch for services even into the '40's and '50's - a habit from the Depression era.

  • .....not if you are well armed a good .22 pistol might ward off intruders.. but a .40 glock or .45 colt will end them.

it's best to also have a good rifle for hunting

  • Campers; May I call you by your nickname:-)?

Do you have a recommendation for one home defense weapon? I was looking at short barrel shotguns. Something a woman can use in case of a home break in?

  • .40/9mm Glock ($500) or Remington 870 ($250)

  • I live in Canada, bring it here I'll pay double!!!!

  • Salt is essential and cheap. It's a great barter item! Asprin & antihistamines are easy to come by. I'd buy snack size ziplocks to dole it out... the list is endless. How about bulk seeds from the farm & garden stores? you could sell 'em broke up into small quantities. Beans, greens and all that easy to grow stuff. (My 2cents).

  • You can buy a 25 pound sack of Camilla red kidney beans for $11.29. That works out to be less than 50 cents per pound. One pound of red beans can feed 6 people. Combine red beans with rice and you have a great source of fiber, protein, and complex carbohydrates. Anyone can cook rice and beans with a little seasoning. It has been a staple in New Orleans forever.

    Nikki

  • Food, fuil and Bullits , That will be the things to buy. When the money is worthless these things will be money.

  • Buy white rice in 5 lb. bags. White rice has a very long shelf life as long as it is kept dry. Purchase the rice in see-through plastic bags since bugs should not be a problem as this rice has been cleaned. I wouldnt trust the larger bags as you cannot see the rice; most likely it requires cleaning or immediate use. In Houston, 5 lb. bags of white rice are less then $3. At 8000 cal/bag, there is no cheaper source of food.

  • You can buy a can of tobacco for $12 that makes 200 cigarettes, or one carton. A carton of cigs in my state is about $32 now. If things get real bad people will trade or work for cigarettes. You can also buy machines that will roll the cigarettes and put a filter on them too.

  • @truthseeker. I just went to walmart today (here in CA) an a carton of Marlboro are near $50...and after April...they will go even higher. So, your suggestion seem perfect for these times.
