He was deserter, not a traitor, Fegelein should have never pick up the phone when that call came in from the bunker, when Hitler finally noticed Fegelein missing some bunker conference meetings. i believe Fegelein was waiting on a call and when to catch a plane out of Berlin, give Fegelein credit even with Berlin in rubble, he was still the (playboy) Nazi about town.
We should not judge them so harsh...after all all ...everything was doomed in the last days. Alltough there is no forgiveness for what was left in Hitler's heart after the betrayals...
He was basically a traitor in the position he was in with Himmler, but he wasn't acting on it. Desertion more accurately describes getting drunk, doing drugs, and screwing hookers. That doesn't really work to much treachery.
