im 17 and wondering if i should join marines or army.........my uncles in the army but i was in marine corps jrotc for two years and am joining rotc again next year and i feel like i have more of a connection with the marine corps.....but it looks so freakin hard

@SDpranks im in MCJROTC too and our company went to paris island for a week and the DI took care of us like they did to the recrutes i was just made the guide and i just finished my ninth grade and to me paris island was amazing and if i can go a week you can make the whole 13 weeks. but i suggest you go to OCS to be an officer so you get paid more than going enlisted.

something that most recruits will not be expecting during receiving week is all of the disorientation, fast movement, and yelling. you're removed from the civilian lifestyle and they will mentally break you to not get used to being one anymore. most of these recruits are not used to being screamed at as loud as possible with someone inches from your face. haha you will feel like you died inside when you piss of the DI and you get quarter decked.
@wiganerrmc Its to acclimate the trainee to handle stressful situations. DI's are not trying to break them down. Its about building them up, though I can see how it doesn't seem that way.
@wiganerrmc you have to get used to it. Its not going to be nice and quiet in the battlefield. ..its to help you get used to being in chaos and be able to do what you have to do in any given situation, with only a certain amount of time, without thinking twice

The point is to make a soldier. A person that does NOT think for themselves. Someone that follows orders without doubt or second thoughts. I dont understand all the yelling and abuse. When you have an instructor who gives you your instructions and then nothing else, that plays on your mind. No feed back to tell you you are doing it right or wrong or if you are passing or failed weeks ago and are simply there waiting for it to finish. The occasional yell when out of line but usually silence. No one yelling at you to keep running, do 10 more pull ups, ect. Its all about staying focused and self motivation. It fucks with your head

My name is &^%$% S&^%ls and I'm a senior in Highschool. I've wanted to join the military since I was 8 years old, so I've been talking to recruiters and such. The Airforce recruiter was a fatass, the Army recruiter was stupid as hell and didn't take his job seriously, and the Navy recruiter seemed to be more interested in if I was gay or not. The marine recruiter saught me out, helped me convince my parents, showed his pride without being a douche, and set me up to take the ASVAB. Do the math.

Ask any respectable soldier and they will tell you something similar. They fight to preserve. In WWI, British Soldiers fought and many died to preserve Great Britain from destruction. and they succeeded.

It is the people's responsibility.
A soldier fights with guns and bombs as weapons. Civilians fight with politics and morality. It is our duty to make sure we put the correct people in the seat of leadership, so our soldiers don't have to tredge knee deep in their own blood and guts.
Soldiers fight to protect our rights to choose what we think is right.

I dont understand all the yelling and abuse. When you have an instructor who gives you your instructions and then nothing else, that plays on your mind. No feed back to tell you you are doing it right or wrong or if you are passing or failed weeks ago and are simply there waiting for it to finish. The occasional yell when out of line but usually silence. No one yelling at you to keep running, do 10 more pull ups, ect. Its all about staying focused and self motivation. It fucks with your head

My name is &^%$% S&^%ls and I'm a senior in Highschool. I've wanted to join the military since I was 8 years old, so I've been talking to recruiters and such. The Airforce recruiter was a fatass, the Army recruiter was stupid as hell and didn't take his job seriously, and the Navy recruiter seemed to be more interested in if I was gay or not. The marine recruiter saught me out, helped me convince my parents, showed his pride without being a douche, and set me up to take the ASVAB. Do the math.

I have more pride than most typical military member, especially when it comes to the physical aspect.
