In view of the fact that a sheriff or other corrections dept official has not been allowed to grant a release pursuant to a medical complaint, we appear to be going backwards to ancient penal practices, where a person who may be in severe pain or have some other condition can be held in jail despite that condition. Any jailer has to be able to grant a reasonable medical release if a qualified practitioner has evidence of a medical condition.
