  • Cool. I've now how it's done for a while, but not the right technique. I could never get it right. This is an excellent breakdown of the technique.

  • @Guitartricks ive been trying to scrape but i keep getting this weak sound similar to 1:25 should i be pressing the pick harder or more distortion?

  • ^^hey Neal, can you please tell me what is the amp setting to produce a nice pick scrape sounding? thanks a lot if you tell me =)

  • do you mute the strings with your left hand, or have certain chords/shapes, etc. when you start sliding?

  • I can't do it it just sounds like nails on a chalkboard haha xD my pickups suck

  • That is a gorgeous gibson. I want to marry that guitar.

  • can i get a high gain and overdrive in a very low volume using pedals??

  • i think it sounds cool if u start on the A and D then move up to the E. Try it.

  • Does the thickness of a pick affect the sound of the pick scrape?

  • @tenhundredkills not too much.

  • @Guitartricks well... thinner ones are amazing but they get destoryed the thinner they are... like a 1mm or .8 mm is the best

  • @tenhundredkills ir does. it its too thick then you wont be able to scrape.

  • @bullshitproof How thick is too thick? I'm using 2.0mm picks and can make some great sounding scrapes. Last I checked, 2mm is a pretty thick pick.

  • @tenhundredkills been playing guitar for 23 years and always used medium picks. they work best for kickass sounding scrapes.

  • @bullshitproof Cool! I'll take your word for it and try some medium picks, seeing as how you've been playing longer than I've been alive.

  • @BluesKid120 apparently I do. Is that a fucking problem?

  • i need a guitar

  • Thumb first ftw!!!

  • There's a different kind of pic scrape... :S

You can hear it on some Arch Enemy songs... It has also a high pitched tone... and make it moving the fingers of the left hand...

Anyone knows how to do that kind of pic scrape?

  • Hey guitartricks, what light and cam equipment are you using?

  • No offense but cmon, who really needs a lesson on pick scraping? :L

  • @BluesKid120 apparently I do as well! This is all new to me. So the proper application of this technique is essential to the kind of music I play. Just had to know how to perform it properly. And now I know because of this lesson.

  • can you give me that guitar? :D

  • @Guitartricks i looked up a Guitar Pro version of a song and it shown in the tab you have to pick slide on the 12th, 10th, 7th and 5th fret of the E string how do you do that?

  • Distortion helps too

  • Charismatic and informative. Thanks! =D

  • When i am doing a scrape, i hear the same tone and not a descending :(

  • @trevortjes what the fuck? thats weird O_O

  • @TeddMorgan

I just found out that i started too early, my descending point is more on the fretboard.

  • How is that pick scrape with harmonics done like Randy Rhoads does on the intro of Crazy Train?

  • what kind of amp is that ?

  • Hit the lights is a very good example.

  • @zaktan415 yes it is. nice to see a metallica fan

  • this might be a stupid question but does it matter what kind of pick it is?

  • @markopher16 Not a stupid question. It doesn't matter but some pics will sound differently than others. Also, plastic pics will get groves cut while nylon pics wont. -Neal

  • @Guitartricks so what kind of picks would you recommend ?

  • Haha the pick scrape reminds me of a rocket taking off

  • works!

  • go to guitarmanual.typepad.com/blog/ or google guitar manual blog and see first result for beginner lessons!!!

  • I SUBSCRIBED!

  • how did you do the tip of the week string noise? it sounds awesome but i cant figure out how to do it, are you pressing a distortion pedal?

  • @NinjaAoE F# power chord, 2nd fret. When you lift the left hand, let your fingers lightly touch the strings as your right hand keeps the rhythm going: "chucka chucka"

    -Neal

  • @Guitartricks

    Sweet it works thanks :D

  • @Guitartricks isnt that the intro to bulls on parade?

  • @NinjaAoE it is basically a harmonic on the 2nd fret

  • How do you the string slide up and down the neck in a quick motion like SRV and Albert King did back in their day?

  • at last a fucking useful vid

  • cheers bro this was actually rly helpful. unlike most of the other ones out here in youtubeland

  • @ternalator good to hear, thanks man! -Neal

  • @iAIvaro haha well i DID have to use another pick cus mine was crappy :P haha but im getting better at it!

  • do i press down on the string?????

  • @adakenna with your left hand, no. With your right hand, just barely -Neal

  • Nobody pick scrapes like Ritchie Blackmore.

  • Your channel is freaking awesome! I just got my first electric guitar today(I've been playing acoustic for two years) do you have any tips on stuff on electric that's radically different form acoustic?

  • @shiv122 Thanks! yeah, everything! LoL...turn it up!! -Neal

  • hey when i pick scrape my pick ends up becoming all i guess you could say warped? like the sides get really messed up. any advice anyone?

  • @rockinRYANmiller Try nylon pics, they don't get the little dents in the side -Neal

  • @Guitartricks really? i'm gunna try that! thanks for the help and great videos! they help me alot especially the one with using the little bread tir thing for strap cus on my acoustic it always comes off but not anymore! thanks you rock!!

  • Wow ! Leave the guy alone ! " can u do lesson on this ? can u do lesson on that ? "

If u want to learn to play u better pick up ur guitars . Watching lessons all day long wont help you . But , if u play all day long , u will find this useful .

  • Thank you!!!

  • Good teacher...relax teaching and very useful...thank man,,.

  • Hey I'm 15 years old i'm from Morocco =) (If you know the country LOL) your videos are really good but not for those who don't haev electrics guitar like myself so I was wondering if you can put a video of classical guitar lessons ???

  • @boyofrabat Good idea, I was thinking of a classical lesson but I wasn't sure how many viewers are playing it. Thanks! ~N

  • wow learning to do a pick scrabe.LMAO.

  • This is futile, who needs a pick scrape lesson?

  • hey, whats the little riff you're playing before the pick scrape demonstratiion? that was sick

  • @jeffreyokabe Thanks Jeffrey \,,/,

  • I've seen guitarsts follow the pick scrape with sliding thier hand on the strings from the fret at the pickups down to the first fret. It's a cool sound, but I'm wondering if they are putting pressure on the strings as if to fret them, or lightly touching the strings to dampen them. I tried to do this but can't seem to get it right. Anyone know how they do this?

  • @Zaidejas1324 if you have a nylon, flexible pic, no. But if you have a stiffer, plastic type pic, the strings will leave little indentations in it.

    Good thing they're cheap, eh?

    -Neal

  • @Zaidejas1324 It depends on your pick

  • my pick scrapes always sounded awful, but after this i will have to incorporate it into my playing again! thanks a lot!

  • You´re the coolest Neal!!! :)

  • WOOOO

  • Shredding lesson please....

  • awesome lesson, ive seen alot of ppl scrape on just the low e, me included. could you do a lesson on like three ways to improve your guitar playing please, that would be dope diggity fresh!
