Good vid! Should i get the supermodel, the loaded tan tien, the lbl dk penguin, or the neversummer heist? Im looking for a freeride board with which i can do some technical tricks like tigerclaws, shuvits, ect. But i also want to be able to slide down some middle sized hills,(not enormous ones like in downhill) plz answer in a comment!
@BackwardsStunters Earthwing SM is pretty heavy, so if you wanna do stuff like in the loaded videos (im assuming) then go for a lighter deck. There's no flex and it takes much more to pull off tricks on the SM. but anyone can pull off tricks on any board. i say go for the SM because Earthwing is fucking badass and it'll last you longer than any other deck.
@blushady Well, if you want to compare the two boards: the FSM has a 1-inch rocker, the SM does not. The FSM is made out of biodegradable materials and some weird glue, the SM is made from 100% rock hard maple. The FSM has flatter concave compared to the SM radial concave that spans the whole deck. Also, the SM has torsional flex channels underneath that causes the deck to flex while freeriding- the FSM does not. I've owned and ridden both of these decks, and they are completely different.
@metallicman711 I haven't ridden a Landyachtz deck since the good ol' days of the Evo and DH Race. I don't want to make assumptions, but I will state the the 9two5 has rocker (a horizontal bend through the deck) that affects the ride while the Supermodel is flat and has a torsional flex from the channels in the deck and that the SM is wider.
@Chachirobles It's great, I recommend getting some indy hybrids and a grippy square lipped wheel that won't slip out on you like Retro BigZigs or some Cult Death/Gamma Rays! Also, just keep in mind that the board is really heavy so your carves will have a lot more, er, inertia-y feel to it.
Question: why does everyone (including EW) recommend Indys specifically for this board as opposed to other revers kingpin trucks? Is there something about this board that makes it especially suited for Indys? If that's the case, it would seem that people would also recommend Indys for a lot of Rayne's boards etc. Thoughts? Answers?
@DiscoCat1019 Indys are highly recommended due in part to this board's shape. I've ridden indys on Rayne's decks (fuck Rayne, terrible with their customer service) and they don't have the same leverage/concave/material that support the feel of Indys on longboards. This board was originally built around Indys because of its lower geometry, therefor leading to its shape that utilizes and brings out the full potential of indys. Also, in the good ol' days of 2010, when the first generation of SM
@DiscoCat1019 Supermodels were released, people found that Reverse Kingpin trucks would get wheelbite with the large platform and not so high wheel wells. This was because the board was tested on Indys, and, in turn, required the next generations to adapt around reverse kingpin trucks even though Indys suit this board much better. Again, you can ride indys on anything, Ive ridden indys on Fullbags, Landyachtz, Rayne (fuck them), and especially Earthwing, and only EW makes indys feel like indys.
@Nick562318 Right on. Thanks for the info and insight. By the way, this is one of the best board reviews I've seen, and definitely THE BEST review of the EW Supermodel. It's definitely my next freeride deck after I thrash my Vendetta (Rayne, I know). Rock on!
@Nick562318 im just saying i have some standard style trucks on his cheap longboard i got im just saying the kingpin angle is very low so so it doesnt really have a good tilt for turn ratio but i didnt really think indy/standard type truck were very stable i thought they were for short/kicktail longboards since there so low to the ground but i bet combining the drop through and indy trucks makes the board mega low to the ground i put a angled/wedge riser on the trucks to increase the kinpin angl
@laz3rb33m I disagree with the first statement because boards fall under preference. Superior quality and materials, and hype, determines price. In that case, EW has gone against all odds with the creation of the Supermodel. I'm still on my Generation 1 Supermodel and it's still a tank. Fuck the Rayne, you can't sail Landyacht, and there's no such thing as Abec11.
@Nick562318 would you recomend the 8ply or the 9ply,i weigh 108 pounds/49 kgs and i want to be able to do everything from DH to freestyle and freeriding?
@loveisforthepatient Yeah man, it's really about ride preference when it comes to length. If you're a shorter person, by all means get the 38 if it's more comfortable, but if you're tall, regardless of weight, I'd go for the 40. I'm planning on buying one soon to replace my Landyachtz switch.
@ForTodayisawesome I still ride it, it's my only board at the moment. I love it, super deep concave, super deep drop, awesome W and sharp edges. I kinda want to transition to a topmount Jet Vulcan I think though, for steez points
@loveisforthepatient Uh what? Weight has nothing to do with the length. Don't get the 38 unless for some reason you'd like a shorter length and wheelbase, the 40'' comes in 8 or 9 ply, which is really about board weight and flex.
@Nick562318 I just got the earthwing super model 2012 9ply version(IT DOESNT HAVE A DROP THRU OPTION), so if its only top mount, you know how everyone says: "put indy 215 on it!", since mine isnt a drop thru and is higher off the deck, will I get wheel bite with bear trucks or randals? with some 75mm wheels
@longboardbhangra32 you can put the new venom elimiators on, i use one venom and one stock and it feels great. also i would recommend using a lower duro because they do contain a lot of urethane :)
@Nick562318 hey man great review, i want to get a long board just for cruising, downhill and sharp turns so far i am thinking loaded dervish or earthwing supermodel?? witch should i choose!
@Octopium It's a great board, thats for sure. It'll be low to the ground if you run it on Indys and 70mm wheels, but it's going to be on the heavier side. I'd say it's a good board for commuting and doing other stuff with it too
@uncfan28fm RKPs are OK for this board, I just don't like the feel of them. You might also get wheelbite if you run huge wheels on your board. But I highly recommend indys or indy hybrids.
I'm torn between and Sector 9 Burleigh and an Earthwing Supermodel. I'm not going to be doing much downhill stuff... mostly cruising and carving. I want something that turns really well. What would you recommend?
thanks but just one more question im a beginner longboarder and im so into sliding already, im practicing on my back side sliding but i always stop afterwards should i just buy 85a or higher wheels or softer bushings so when i slide i keep on going after wards just like you did at 0:03 of your review
@johnhuie138 Sliding is all in your balance, not your wheels or bushings. Throw your feet out harder and swing that board around! If it makes you feel more comfortable, go for the 85a+, but the reality is that it's all in your technique. I recommend the how to videos they have out the on youtube!
Because I bought a landyachtz pocket knife and it came with Bennett vector trucks, aligator 62mm 80a wheels and venom downhill bushings and I'd really like too transform that to a earthwing super model somehow from using about 100-150$, could you give me some advice?
@johnhuie138 What size Bennetts are you using? 6.0 Vectors are 150mm, which should be enough for your Alligators to clear (AWSOME wheels btw). But if you want to put the Bennetts on the Supermodel and use it for downhill, I don't recommend that. Spend some cash on some Indys or Indy Hybrids and get some slippier wheels for your Supermodel!
@Nick562318 OK and for wheels, have you tried any abec 11 wheels? like the freerides? or any other wheels? because Ive heard that the inheats/4prez arent THAT good, and the durians suck, but not much about the abec 11 wheels. You know people, only pointing the bad out
Hey Nick, I know this is a DH-freeride board, but how do you think it will fare as a board used for commuting/carving? I intend to use it mainly for these purposes as well as some freeriding in my spare time, and it's the cheapest board to get including shipping to my country. I want to keep pushing to a minimum.
@SteroidOwnage I think it's a fine board for commuting, cruising, and carving. But keep in mind that it is not the lightest. I wouldn't mind the weight if you are going to get into DH and freeride anyway afterwards. It's a sturdy and convenient board that will work great for you in everything. And I'd say go for it if you have the ability to get your hands on it in another country
@Nick562318 Yeah that sounds good. I checked the weight and compared it to some other boards and I don't think it will be super heavy, and it won't matter too much because I don't need to store it or bring it to campus or anything. And yeah, I'll give DH and sliding a go too
@BullzEye14 i love freeriding my inheats, however, they are just too expensive to go to waste by ovalizing them or flatspotting them. I wasn't smart about the wear patterns on my wheels and they're hella ovalized after a good 6 months and 4mm of wear. Go for the Purple InHeats or Yellow ones if you wanna freeride, o rjust go green and get some Abec11 Freerides!
@Nick562318 yeah thats what i ended up getting on my supermodel that i just ordered on saturday. im so stoked. got the 78a 72mm. that'll be pretty chill huh? and yea i was really looking to get some cult classics but they were sold out everywere and i didnt want to wait. whats ur opinion on the cults? thanks man.
@BullzEye14 81a is the best for freeriding IMO, but 78a is still pretty good. I loved the feel of Cults, especially their Gamma Rays, however, I had a bad batch of Cult Classics where one wheel wore out super fast compared to the other three wheels. They were still great freeride wheels though. Enjoy that Supermodel and it will enjoy you.
@goldish345 im about 175-180 depending on the time of day. not any flex at all. there is, however, torsional flex that you will notice after riding awhile
@MellowCruisin Regular Venom bushings will not fit in Indys, Khiros will fit. However, there are Indy-shaped Venom bushings that can be found at longboardskater . com that will fit your needs for running stock baseplates, or, you can hammer out the kingpin from stock indys and use a different kingpin to fit regular Venoms. OR, you can buy hybrid plates for your Indys. I do not like Khiros.
@Nick562318 Hey, I couldn't find the exact Venom bushings for Indy 215s that you were talking about. Are they the short cones and barrels? If not, could you message me with a link?
@SteroidOwnage Check out longboardskater . com , search for the Venom Indy style bushing packs. They'll fit stock Indys, OR you can buy the slightly more expensive Indy Hybrids from Milehighskates . com and fit any bushings your heart desires!
I'm 5'4 and 105lbs yes I'm underweight xP But I'm growing, so I'm thinking of Indys 215 and Venoms Shocker 80a and bones reds. Do you think this board is good for me?
@solduke How big are your feet and how big do you plan on getting? The supermodel is a very wide board, so if you're comfortable with such a wide board, then I think the 38" 8ply would be great for you. DO NOT get the venom shockers, terrible wheels (from my own experience), but I have heard that the new Venom Cannibals are great. If you're looking for something slide shoot for Abec 11 freerides and for all around Otang Inheats.
@solduke You should be good with the Supermodel, Cult Classics are great! Unfortunately, I recieved a bad batch that had a ruined wheel, besides that they're great wheels. Otang stims are also great, but I'd go with Cults because they're cheaper and have a better slide.
I'm 5'7 150lbs and this is the ewsm I'm thinking about getting. 8-ply 38" deck, core/Indy 215s, bones super sweet 6 bearings, orangatang 83a durians, and bones hardcore medium bushings. Any suggestions?
@jo3MW If you're looking for something flexy, don't look at the supermodel. it is absolutely rock hard, zero flex (minus the subtle torsional flex that you won't realize until you're riding for months). If you do decide to get the supermodel, i highly recommend the 38" 8ply, it will be lighter and shorter for your height. But if you plan on growing or gaining some weight, go for the 40" 9ply. Cheers!
im thinking about getting this but ill probably run Paris 180s do you honestly recommend the indies over the 180s cuz i think they would be better for commuting pumping and carving. but idk just want ur two cents on this.
@PikachuKrew Indys make this board much lower, and it will be easier to freeride/push around. Throw on some grippy wheels and you're even more set for some carving and pushing. Indys are too underrated for longboards, I say give em a chance!
hey so is the supermodel good for dancing and shuvits? i know its a great downhill and sliding board but im just wondering if it would be good for cruising and some tricks too. also,, im 6" 175 lbs. i should probably go with the 40 over the 38 right?
@stingbaseball10 its pretty much a do-it-all board. cruising and dancing should be no problem. and yes, go with the 40" over the 38, you're my exact height and weight so I'm sure you'll love this board as much as I have.
I ran my supermodel with orange inheats too, along with indys and venoms. I loved the slide and thought they were great until that whole coring problem caught up to me, and I was just about to bomb a mild hill when my wheel flew off. Ordered some cult classics and they're fantastic, and I read your full review and noticed you had them too. Glad to see you like them. :D
Hey nick, so I decided to get the supermodel with indys stock, is it possible to get a 76mm (fireball beasts) without getting any wheel bite. Thanks in advance.
does it work top mounted like the killswitch

YOU WILL NOT get bite from Indy 215 hangers with 75MM wheels.
YOU MIGHT get bite from RPK (Paris/Randal/Bear) 180MM hangers with 75MM wheels.
THIS BOARD IS ROCK SOLID WITH ZERO FLEX.
THIS BOARD IS IDEAL FOR ANY KIND OF RIDING WITH INDYS ON IT.
THIS BOARD COMES IN TWO FLEXES 8-PLY AND 9-PLY, 8-PLY HAS MORE TORSIONAL FLEX, 9-PLY HAS LESS.
YES, YOU CAN DO MANUALS, TIGER CLAWS, AND SHOVITS ON THIS BOARD.

@uncfan28fm RKPs are OK for this board, I just don't like the feel of them. You might also get wheelbite if you run huge wheels on your board. But I highly recommend indys or indy hybrids.
Nick562318 10 months ago
I'm torn between and Sector 9 Burleigh and an Earthwing Supermodel. I'm not going to be doing much downhill stuff... mostly cruising and carving. I want something that turns really well. What would you recommend?
davidrabinowicz 10 months ago
@davidrabinowicz You shouldnt even have to think about that, supermodel.

could any other trucks besides indys work on this?
hotglock666 10 months ago
@hotglock666 Yes. But Indys are the preferred choice.

@Nick562318 gunmetal double barrel trucks on the supermodel? any bite? thanks man
BullzEye14 9 months ago
@BullzEye14 Doubt it.
Nick562318 9 months ago
is this board pretty flexy?
McCurryBoy 10 months ago
@McCurryBoy Nope. Nothing close to a bamboo or fiberglass deck. Rock solid.
Nick562318 10 months ago
thanks but just one more question im a beginner longboarder and im so into sliding already, im practicing on my back side sliding but i always stop afterwards should i just buy 85a or higher wheels or softer bushings so when i slide i keep on going after wards just like you did at 0:03 of your review
johnhuie138 10 months ago
@johnhuie138 Sliding is all in your balance, not your wheels or bushings. Throw your feet out harder and swing that board around! If it makes you feel more comfortable, go for the 85a+, but the reality is that it's all in your technique. I recommend the how to videos they have out the on youtube!
Nick562318 10 months ago 2
Because I bought a landyachtz pocket knife and it came with Bennett vector trucks, aligator 62mm 80a wheels and venom downhill bushings and I'd really like too transform that to a earthwing super model somehow from using about 100-150$, could you give me some advice?
johnhuie138 10 months ago
@johnhuie138 What size Bennetts are you using? 6.0 Vectors are 150mm, which should be enough for your Alligators to clear (AWSOME wheels btw). But if you want to put the Bennetts on the Supermodel and use it for downhill, I don't recommend that. Spend some cash on some Indys or Indy Hybrids and get some slippier wheels for your Supermodel!
Nick562318 10 months ago
id like to see you ollie this...
mikeykris17 10 months ago
do you think bennet vectors would work on this board?
johnhuie138 10 months ago
@johnhuie138 They would be too small for it, unless you put on axle extensions from Surf Rodz
Nick562318 10 months ago
@Nick562318 will abec 11 grippins work on this board?
COlongboarders 10 months ago
@COlongboarders yes
Nick562318 10 months ago
@Nick562318 ok thank you
COlongboarders 10 months ago
what size and flex and stuff should I get if I weigh only 95 or so pounds?
elliottower123 10 months ago
will this thing flex at all when I ride it. I way around 100 pounds maybe 95 or so.
how much does this cost?
elliottower123 10 months ago
@elliottower123 No flex. I'd recommend the 38" 8ply/
Nick562318 10 months ago
@Nick562318 OK and for wheels, have you tried any abec 11 wheels? like the freerides? or any other wheels? because Ive heard that the inheats/4prez arent THAT good, and the durians suck, but not much about the abec 11 wheels. You know people, only pointing the bad out
elliottower123 9 months ago
Hey Nick, I know this is a DH-freeride board, but how do you think it will fare as a board used for commuting/carving? I intend to use it mainly for these purposes as well as some freeriding in my spare time, and it's the cheapest board to get including shipping to my country. I want to keep pushing to a minimum.
SteroidOwnage 10 months ago
@SteroidOwnage I think it's a fine board for commuting, cruising, and carving. But keep in mind that it is not the lightest. I wouldn't mind the weight if you are going to get into DH and freeride anyway afterwards. It's a sturdy and convenient board that will work great for you in everything. And I'd say go for it if you have the ability to get your hands on it in another country
Nick562318 10 months ago
@Nick562318 Yeah that sounds good. I checked the weight and compared it to some other boards and I don't think it will be super heavy, and it won't matter too much because I don't need to store it or bring it to campus or anything. And yeah, I'll give DH and sliding a go too
SteroidOwnage 10 months ago
screeching at the end sounds Teeerible! was that from your slide? 0.0

@maacattack8008 I believe they are 2.25" on hybrid baseplates.
Nick562318 10 months ago
I respect this video alot more cause we can see youve actually ridden your board, unlike like 75% of all thereview videos on youtube,
EyestormSwitch 10 months ago
@EyestormSwitch Glad you like it!
Nick562318 10 months ago
your freeriding in orange in heats? how you liking that?
BullzEye14 10 months ago
@BullzEye14 i love freeriding my inheats, however, they are just too expensive to go to waste by ovalizing them or flatspotting them. I wasn't smart about the wear patterns on my wheels and they're hella ovalized after a good 6 months and 4mm of wear. Go for the Purple InHeats or Yellow ones if you wanna freeride, o rjust go green and get some Abec11 Freerides!
Nick562318 10 months ago
@Nick562318 yeah thats what i ended up getting on my supermodel that i just ordered on saturday. im so stoked. got the 78a 72mm. that'll be pretty chill huh? and yea i was really looking to get some cult classics but they were sold out everywere and i didnt want to wait. whats ur opinion on the cults? thanks man.
BullzEye14 10 months ago
@BullzEye14 81a is the best for freeriding IMO, but 78a is still pretty good. I loved the feel of Cults, especially their Gamma Rays, however, I had a bad batch of Cult Classics where one wheel wore out super fast compared to the other three wheels. They were still great freeride wheels though. Enjoy that Supermodel and it will enjoy you.
Nick562318 10 months ago
@Nick562318 you too. haha

mattygYO 11 months ago
@mattygYO You should be fine with 40" 9ply
Nick562318 11 months ago
how much do you weigh? not to be too personal Im just trying to judge for flex
goldish345 11 months ago
@goldish345 im about 175-180 depending on the time of day. not any flex at all. there is, however, torsional flex that you will notice after riding awhile
Nick562318 11 months ago
I heard somewhere that venom bushings don't fit in indy's?? and that khiro's are for indy 215's..?
MellowCruisin 11 months ago
@MellowCruisin Regular Venom bushings will not fit in Indys, Khiros will fit. However, there are Indy-shaped Venom bushings that can be found at longboardskater . com that will fit your needs for running stock baseplates, or, you can hammer out the kingpin from stock indys and use a different kingpin to fit regular Venoms. OR, you can buy hybrid plates for your Indys. I do not like Khiros.
Nick562318 11 months ago
@Nick562318 Hey, I couldn't find the exact Venom bushings for Indy 215s that you were talking about. Are they the short cones and barrels? If not, could you message me with a link?
Cheers.
SteroidOwnage 10 months ago
@SteroidOwnage Check out longboardskater . com , search for the Venom Indy style bushing packs. They'll fit stock Indys, OR you can buy the slightly more expensive Indy Hybrids from Milehighskates . com and fit any bushings your heart desires!
Nick562318 10 months ago
what do u think of the 38 inch? im around 5'9'', but im only 15, so im not quite done growing
BullzEye14 11 months ago
@BullzEye14 Go for the 40" 9ply if you plan on growing!
Nick562318 11 months ago
im 5'9-5'10 260lbs and was wondering if this board would support me, im just looking for a cruising/downhill board.
ezm123456 11 months ago
@ezm123456 Yes. It will support you. Get the 40" 9-ply.
Nick562318 11 months ago
@Nick562318 Thanks bro
ezm123456 11 months ago
I'm 5'4 and 105lbs yes I'm underweight xP But I'm growing, so I'm thinking of Indys 215 and Venoms Shocker 80a and bones reds. Do you think this board is good for me?
solduke 11 months ago
@solduke How big are your feet and how big do you plan on getting? The supermodel is a very wide board, so if you're comfortable with such a wide board, then I think the 38" 8ply would be great for you. DO NOT get the venom shockers, terrible wheels (from my own experience), but I have heard that the new Venom Cannibals are great. If you're looking for something slide shoot for Abec 11 freerides and for all around Otang Inheats.
Nick562318 11 months ago
@Nick562318 I wear a 9'5. and I might get the stock Cult Classics, cuz I heard that they are nice. But if not, should I get Otang stims?
solduke 11 months ago
@solduke You should be good with the Supermodel, Cult Classics are great! Unfortunately, I recieved a bad batch that had a ruined wheel, besides that they're great wheels. Otang stims are also great, but I'd go with Cults because they're cheaper and have a better slide.
Nick562318 11 months ago
I'm 5'7 150lbs and this is the ewsm I'm thinking about getting. 8-ply 38" deck, core/Indy 215s, bones super sweet 6 bearings, orangatang 83a durians, and bones hardcore medium bushings. Any suggestions?

Hey i was looking at the supermodel and i was wondering if it would be too stiff because i am 5'5" and 130lbs
jo3MW 11 months ago
@jo3MW If you're looking for something flexy, don't look at the supermodel. it is absolutely rock hard, zero flex (minus the subtle torsional flex that you won't realize until you're riding for months). If you do decide to get the supermodel, i highly recommend the 38" 8ply, it will be lighter and shorter for your height. But if you plan on growing or gaining some weight, go for the 40" 9ply. Cheers!
Nick562318 11 months ago
@Nick562318 THANKS MAN!
jo3MW 11 months ago
im thinking about getting this but ill probably run Paris 180s do you honestly recommend the indies over the 180s cuz i think they would be better for commuting pumping and carving. but idk just want ur two cents on this.
PikachuKrew 11 months ago
@PikachuKrew Indys make this board much lower, and it will be easier to freeride/push around. Throw on some grippy wheels and you're even more set for some carving and pushing. Indys are too underrated for longboards, I say give em a chance!
Nick562318 11 months ago
loved the opening line hahahaa
NovatoLongboarding 11 months ago
hey so is the supermodel good for dancing and shuvits? i know its a great downhill and sliding board but im just wondering if it would be good for cruising and some tricks too. also,, im 6" 175 lbs. i should probably go with the 40 over the 38 right?
stingbaseball10 1 year ago
@stingbaseball10 its pretty much a do-it-all board. cruising and dancing should be no problem. and yes, go with the 40" over the 38, you're my exact height and weight so I'm sure you'll love this board as much as I have.
Nick562318 11 months ago
I ran my supermodel with orange inheats too, along with indys and venoms. I loved the slide and thought they were great until that whole coring problem caught up to me, and I was just about to bomb a mild hill when my wheel flew off. Ordered some cult classics and they're fantastic, and I read your full review and noticed you had them too. Glad to see you like them. :D
Noah8914 1 year ago
Hey nick, so I decided to get the supermodel with indys stock, is it possible to get a 76mm (fireball beasts) without getting any wheel bite. Thanks in advance.
