  • Good film. Sets things out clearly. I went to the public meeting on Tuesday night and heard a load of rubbish from people who hadn't even looked at the website or read the info. I live in Dover and it's clear we're not going to get any money from the government. The alternative People's Port faces exactly the same challenges of raising money - but with no track record and a bunch of jokers 'running' it. I'd like to see them produce arguments of this standard and go head-to-head with details.

  • Tinkerbell we do agree about one thing, I don't trust Torys either but Goldfield has given us no choice? Selling the Port to a Private investor has only one outcome milking large amounts of profits for its shareholders, we need to keep the Port where the local community have a say and benefit from investment for many years not just the next 5. Golldfield is worse than a Tory he will take his massive payoff to Thailand and not give a shit what happens to the people of Dover in years to come!

  • Surely living and working in the area you can see the massive flaws in the privatisation of the port? The referendum showed the people of Dover's views in huge numbers. So many people in this port town are either employed by the port or have family employed by the port, maybe everyone's forgetting how much of a detrimental effect Bob has already had on so many peoples lives, treating people like they are nothing regardless of the years they've worked.

  • 400Tinkerbell, Maybe @Dumpedbybugeyedbob has good reason to feel bitter and twisted towards Mr Goldfield, after all he has caused the first ever strike in the ports 400+ year history, and he has got rid of hundreds of staff.

What worries me is that the 3 main ferry operators have all given Mr Goldfield the thumbs down, so did the people of Dover at the referendum (over 90 per cent wasnt it).

You wouldnt trust a Tory ?, nor would I so why not ask Gwyn Prossers view?

  • I wonder why Tinkerbell is worried about people giving Goldfield thw sh-t he deserves, maybe its because your one of his puppets who has been promised large amounts of shares if the Port is sold to possibly a foreign investor. What would our brave troops of World War 1&2 think about that happening? The Peoples Port must happen for the good of our community. (David Camerons Flagship for The Big Society)

  • @Dumpedbybugeyedbob No I am not. But I do live and work in the area. I'm therefore entitled to an opinion and want to listen to sensible debate on the matter not childish spite and wild speculation This matter is far too important for that. tbh I wouldn't trust a Tory as far as I could throw them so anything suggested by one makes me suspicious as they are usually only interested in making themselves richer and us poorer.

  • 400Tinkerbell, It is a form of privatisation but one that will benifit the whole of the community for many many years and not just money grabbing Bob Goldfield and his puppets.

  • Bob Goldfield is not happy that he doubled his and all his higher management wages, he also wants to leave our beloved Port with thousands of pounds worth of shares. This man has no concerns or bond with Dover and does not care what happens to the local community when he f--ks off to Thailand. The best thing that can happen to the Port is for it to stay within the local community and The peoples Port for long term investment not just for the next 5 years or so, The Big Society starts here!

  • @Dumpedbybugeyedbob It's a shame you have to resort to unsubstantiated statements and your pseudonym does your cause no favour. Use grown up arguments not spiteful sour grapes and your cause might be taken more seriously.

  • Let the debate begin, but as an aside could there be an alternative perhaps it could be called 'The Dover Peoples Port' and perhaps it could break new ground in the relationship between the Port and it's adjacent community.

  • I don't know how anyone can think the privatisation of this port is a positive thing. Dover has spoke out about this and has been fighting for it in overwhelming numbers. Living in Dover the whole of my life I can say on behalf nearly every single person I've spoken to that we do NOT want the port privatised! Peoples port is the only way forward, how can Bob Goldfield sell something that is not his? It's wrong in so many ways.

  • @JessycarUndead Correct me if I've misunderstood... but isn't the People's Port a form of privatisation in itself??

  • dover looks as though it needs some money and investment. sounds like a win for all involved.

  • I like the bicycle thief at 4:50!

More power to your elbow, Dover guys. The port IS the Dover economy in many ways and it needs to be in good shape. The town desperately needs investment and it's not going to come from Vera Lynn and the other whingers.

  • Sounds all very positive to me.

  • This is a no brainer. Good for the port and good for Dover.

  • Forgive me if i am wrong, but i thought the people of Dover had already spoken with an overwhelming majority that they do not want Bob Goldfield selling off the Port of Dover and its 400 years of history. Goldfield go back to Shannon Airport, i bet they miss you lol.

  • My suspicion is just until the next corporation is in control and this lot have disappeared over the horizon.

  • A cynical, calculating attempt to push through their wallet thickening privatisation.I would like to know how long the Port of Dover Community Trust will be in existance

  • Bug eyes Bob what a load of rubbish, No2 Berth very hardly used No5 berth used twice a day and you say we need T2 get real.
