@AlexanderYangVevo Yes, that is a contact for the wi-fi. without it you will loose range on your wi-fi. Unless you do not care about having a strong wi-fi signal, then it should not matter to you.
@softball741147 Try a hard reset, holding the pwr and home buttons at the same time. Does iTunes recognize that the device is plugged into your computer?
i have all the material to replace my digitizer on my itouch 1st gen, do i have to de-assemble the whole thing to replace it? or is there an easier way?
@kanine5kuchiki You should not have to fully disassemble the iPod to change the glass digitizer. Follow the instructions on the video until the glass digitizer has been removed, that's as far as you need to go. Each repair is a bit different, so you may need to further disassemble the device to gain access to other parts.
@angelosimillidis We charge $25.00 plus $4.50 for the home button. This is not the physical plastic button that you press, but the circuitry behind the plastic button. The circuitry is what makes the "pop" or "click" feeling when you press the home button. To my knowledge we are the only company that do this repair. In some cases we do not need to install a new part, so it may only be $25.00; but it is hard to Diagnose the issue via YouTube.
@funnyawesomevideos12 You would need to get a nylon bristled brush that does not conduct static electricity. Then clean the charging port with the brush and use canned air to blow the debris loose.
Ok so I'm using my broken iPod to write this lol I have these annoying gray things going across my screen. Now I did drop my IPod and it cracked my screen, but then I can see these small cracks like on what I think is the LCD, would this fix it?
@RipMr2pac You would need to replace at least the LCD screen to clear up the gray lines issue, which is common when dropped. Just the force from being dropped can cause the LCD screen to become damaged. However you would probably need to replace the glass digitizer as well. Since the only point of entry to the inside of the device is by removing the mid-frame and glass digitizer as a whole.
My iPod 1st gen has wifi issues ( it won't connect of find the wifi networks. restoring doesn't help. what do you think is the possible issue with this iPod ?
@dmafia786 If you can actually go into your Settings > Wi-Fi and choose to turn it On or Off, then you probably just need an antenna or backplate replaced. If you get to your Wi-Fi settings and find the selector for ON/OFF is greyed-out and does not allow you to select either ON or OFF; that would be a problem with the wireless chip on the logic board (Marvell W8686B22 chip I believe).
@miguelon187 There is no fix for this, if replacing the LCD does not work then you need a new logic board. The coil on the logic board for the CCFL(inside the LCD screen) is blown out, it is near impossible to replace them.
@213maico Connect the iPod to the USB port of your computer. Run iTunes. You will see a window open and a "Summary" page appears in that window. There are two buttons toward the bottom, Update and Restore. Click Update.
my ipod 1gen can pick up wifi signals and access them, the problem is that once i try to use safari, facebook, youtube, or textfree it wont let me. it says "cannot connect to____" what should i do?
@THEGREATKARATEAKID the wi-fi issue may be from the jailbreak, if at all possible you should restore to original firmware and then see if the problem persists. You could also goto Settings and Reset Network Settings; that may help. If not then you may have a hardware issue.
@escapemyfate97 You would open the iPod and re-seat the home button; it is a lot of work on a 1st Gen just for the home button. Though there is little else you can do.
@88segovia you would want to use a heat gun on a medium to low setting, a hairdryer does not focus the hot air. But if you need to use a hairdryer, then do it in 1-2 second intervals.
hey I got a question about my first gen Ipod ive had it for about 5-6 years and well the battery just won't charge anymore so that means i need a new battery, idk if you have a vid or something about replacing a battery because i havnt looked yet but if you could make one or help me out it'd be much appriciated!

@oh8fa5 We sell the replacement headphone jacks for the iPod Touch on our site, currently for the iPod Touch 1st generation they are priced at $19.99.
I'm having a different problem. My 8G iTouch turns on, but the screen shows up white and blank. It's still operational because the alarm still goes off and I can turn it off. But I can't see what I'm doing. The screen is cracked (not very badly), but that happened before this, and it was still working fine. I don't know what caused the problem because I've been very careful with since it got cracked. Can anyone help me?
@HEIGHTSIXFIVE The LCD screen has probably been damaged or is now damaged and that is causing the white/no display. You would probably need to replace the glass digitizer, mid-frame and LCD screen. This should correct the issue. Though you may not need a mid-frame, its easier to get a new one rather than re-use the old one; but that's up to you.
Hey I could really use some help. I ran my iPod over on my bike screen facing up a year ago and I did a damage report and found out the only problem with it is the wifi signal is really weak. And I mean that the only way to get wifi on it is to have the iPod laying on or within 6inches of the wireless router. Any solution to this problem would be great.
Thanks, was able to repair my phone jack and used your tutorial to open it. though my top power button doesnt turn on, but overall im satisfied it works.
@DigiExpress I am thinking about sending you guys my ipod touch but I'm not sure if it will be safe. I really don't want to be scammed out of money and an ipod touch. Can I be sure that I will get my ipod touch fixed and sent back to me for the money i spend? Oh and will this order: iPod Touch 1G Headphone Jack: Professional Installation Service, ensure that my ipod touch's sound will be as good as new?
@bmxmmm If the iPod is fully functional, other than the screen sliders not moving, you would need to replace the Glass Digitizer (the front glass). This is the part that is sensitive to touch and if it goes bad then you have an issue just as you described. If there has been any water damage to the device there could be another issue.
@KaylaShae12 The issue with your backlight could be corrected by replacing the LCD screen. There is a chance that, as with any backlight not functioning, you could have a problem with the main electronics board (aka logic board). The only way to tell is to literally replace the lcd with a known good unit to see if it corrects the issue. We can do the LCD repair, or sell you the part for your own install. We do not do repairs on the main electronics board.
I replaced the battery with your product, but did not solder the wires i just twisted them together because i dont have access to a soldering iron. I then plugged in my ipod and the bright apple shows which gives me the impression its booting, but then it shuts off before the unlock screen shows up. any suggestions for this?
@freeskier0713 You would need to solder those leads to ensure that all functions as it should. If you have wires that are too long it may be interfering with something else internally. Apple has a grounding point for the wi-fi that is a gold circle on the backplate. if this does not make contact with the logic board you may have an issue there. generally even when using no solder, it *should* work; but doesn't all the time.
@DigiExpress thank you. Oh and two more quick questions. Where can i get the spludger? And when i seperate the ipod touch, is it easy to put back together, or will i need some kind of glue so it stays together?
@Ozl01 we ship a free spudger with most parts orders as well as under the Tools section of our website is listed all the user friendly tools. As for reassembly there does not need to be any glue used, the clips will "pop" into place and the pressure will hold the case together.
How did you open it up so easily? I have tries with a flat screwdriver and it just starts to look bad. I'm trying to open it so i can fix the audio port. Oh and when you take it apart, is it easy to put both pieces back together again?
@Ozl01 The 1st Gen iPod Touch would be easier to use the plastic opening tool, aka spudger. This way the plastic tool will bend as opposed to the metal "chipping" or bending. The trick is to find the clips that retain the backplate. You are basically "feeling" around with that plastic spudger tool and when you find a clip you apply a slight amount of pressure. You should feel the front panel begin to separate from the back panel. After you get it once, it is gets easier each time after that
My ipod touch 1gen 32gb dies jus lookin through my artists (i have about 4400 songs, 141 different artists, all organized very well) in around 7-8 minutes. and when it shuts down the screen jus fades out. the weird thing is my clock is always wrong when it reboots!!! im gonna replace the battery and see if that helps solve my issues
@JBusie1996 If you replace the battery, attempt to backup any data before doing so. Unless you already have recent backups, then you should be fine. If you replace the battery and then find that the date and time both reset every time you power down the device; then you have a deeper issue.
@JBusie1996 haha, I certainly did not mean to scare you, but with any type of damage to any electronics device; you have replacement parts and the receiving end of those parts is the logic board. If you have problems with the logic board, then in almost every case, you are better off to purchase a new(er) device. I would continue to replace the battery and see what it yields.
@Hawkboy09 check first in the headphone jack, you may see a red / pink color. if you do see a red or pink then you have moisture damage and that is a grey area for repairs. if you see no color, only white, then you may need to replace the battery first, then possibly the LCD screen. Even if the LCD screen is damaged, the iPod should be recognized by iTunes when plugged into the computer. See if you can get the computer to recognize the it, if not you would have at least a battery to install.
@dejii12 We believe that if you purchase a device, then you own that device and have the right to alter it (within the FCC limitations obviously) however you see fit. This is true for the software on these devices as well, it is not illegal to open an iPod for repair nor is it illegal to Jailbreak and/or Unlock the carrier of a cellular phone. Though I do see your point as being tread lightly on this ground, an iPod is not as easy to repair as a car or the like.
i have a 1g ipod touch and the home button is broken, like u need to press it really hard in order for u to go back to apps page.how can i fix it?Also how much will it cost to fix it from apple
My battery died i think. I dropped it in the water and it seems that's the reason why my iPod won't work anymore. i try to charge my iPod everything works, except when i try to charge it, i know its not the USB cable because i been trying to use my cousins and it works for his iPod. Basically my iPod works but i can't charge it. What should i do? how much would a battery replacement cost? Please email me at maganaperlaruby@gmail.com. mine ipod is 4th generation.

@MRAngel805 There are 2 contact points inside the iPod Touch that carry the wifi signal to the logic board. you may need to clear any corrosion from these contact points. One is on the rear of the logic board that makes connection to the back plate, they are gold colored circles about 2 mm diameter. The other connection is a copper rim that is located next to the gold circles, both below the black oval on the back plate. If this does not work then you have a deeper issue with the logic board
Thanks for all the really good, informative information. I have a question. My home key has stopped working for some time now. I have heard about this problem mutliple times from other people also. It didn't just random stop working, though; it began with having to push the home key several times in order for it work and eventually got to the point of not working at all. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
@10sup10 For the iPod Touch 1st generation model, there is a tricky setup that lets the home button function when pressed. The home button pushes a white disc on the logic board itself and contained in that white disc is the contact points to close the circuit for the home button. It is basically part of the logic board itself and can be repaired only in certain cases.
@foortiz619 We replace headphone jacks on all iPod Touch models, but not the logic boards themselves. If your problem is with the headphone jack on the iPod Touch 1st gen the cost would be $19.99 for the OEM quality part + $25.00 for the installation service + $8.75 insured return shipping, which totals $53.74. More information is available on our website, which may have any number of sales running since the time of this posting (April 11 2011)
hey can someone help me...i few days ago my ipod touch started acting weird...now u can listen to music but you cant hear the lyrics all u can hear is the instruments...what can i do...what should i do?
@foortiz619 This sounds like there is a problem with your headphone jack. The headphone jack is soldered into the device and if there is a disconnect on that solder you will loose channels (the ability to hear in stereo or to hear all the instruments / vocals). You can replace the headphone jack to see if it rectifies the problem. If it does not then there is a problem with the audio codec chip on the logic board, and that generally is unrepairable. We can Diagnose the issue for $25 (+s&h).
@foortiz619 hey my wifi is realy week this all happened after i replaced the screen is there anything u can suggest on what i should buy from u or to fix this problem i only get wifi in the same room as my roughter
@geilecharlie we have the 2nd generation video posted under our YouTube account. The process is different for the 1st versus the 2nd/3rd as the device are physically different.
hey can you hlp me !! PLZZ !! my ipo charges if you plug the charger but you have to move it till it beeps and it charges IS NOT THE CHARGER IS THE IPOD! but im wondering how much will it cost so theyll fix it aproximediatley and.. =/ now it doesnt even wants to charge!! D =
Can u help me with a part or a problem? I didn't pry apart the gold little metal corner thing next to the small electronics board and ripped the small yellow tape cable to i think its the wi-fii...is there any part to replace it? i hope u know what im talking about..i could send u a pic..if u would like...but i just keep looking at it and its seems that that whole part is connected with long yellow tape to the mother board and would u think i would have to replace the whole mother board ?
@TheHV20 This is the complexities of fixing any device that the manufacturer lists as having "no consumer serviceable parts" in some cases a simple screen replacement can be more than initially thought.
I have a ipod 1st generation that had a cracked screen and I followed these videos instructions and was able to replace the screen on my ipod but now unfortunately my ipod will not turn on. can anyone help me?
@TheHV20 Depending on how the screen was damaged there may be other internal parts affected by the physical damage. We have a Diagnosis service that is $25.00, visit our website for more information.
@2KARGARAGE You can open the SETTINS.app then navigate to the GENERAL tab, then to the ABOUT tab. Under this menu you will find all the information about your iPod Touch. The model number should be listed there, a google search for that model number will provide you with the exact generation. There is another model number listed on the chrome backplate. It is in very small text and can be hard to find, but it will start "A1xxx". For instance the 2nd generation iPod Touch is model no. A1288
what happens if that main board cable is ripped in half? i had it sent to be fixed and the guy said it wont turn on, he didnt charge me so i decided to open it myself and i saw that board wire ripped. do you think thats why it doesnt turn on? let me on in some details on the main board, thanks
@stormtrooperandfett The various cables on the inside of the iPod can be for many things, though if you had torn the Main Board cable you would have to replace that board.
@StuckInDetention We offer a Diagnosis service for $25.00, this allows you to ship your device to us and have our technicians source out the exact issue with the device. If we can repair the device with parts already installed on your device then it is covered under the initial $25.00. Once the diagnosis is completed the technician will report those results to you via email; he will list any parts that are necessary or optional. Please visit our website for more information.

hey i know the problem with my itouch on the wifi.it seems easy to fix but i cant seem to find the right way to do it. ok on the backplate when you take it off you see behind the antenna there is a little metal thing sticking up and it is suposed to touch the little gold dot for the wifi to work.i know it wud work if i connected them because ive done it before.i just dont know how to keep them together perminantly. please help me because i cant find the answer anywhere! thanks for reading
@tublywork We can check the wifi on the iPod touchs, but we would suggest that if the wifi is not working in one spot to try another location like a Starbucks and see if it works there. If not you can always send it to us for a diagnosis. Check out our website for more information.
I dunno if this would work, but put put a dab of really strong glue on the top of the screw. Once it dries, then you just kinda stab ur screwdriver head into the glue. THen u get like a new screwhead. I did that on my bass guitar and it worked.
Do you know why my 1g ipod battery runs out even when on hold and not playing anything. Also do you know how to fix the wifi on an itouch because mine is broken. Thanks
@12tippettm Your battery is most likely dying and should be replaced. We replace batteries at DigiExpress and offer a lifetime warranty of the battery and can install it for a $25 fee. Our website has a list of all the models we fix and also has the prices for the parts we replace. Check out our website for more information.
Lolz, I got meh 1g when they first came out... When they coated 500$. But mine was free...
Anyway, the pins on the inside of where you plug it in are bent and scratched. It still charges and syncs, but I'm wondering if that would be a major problem as time goes by.

My itouch turns on but in the screen were it says slide to unlock its like its frozen.. It wont slide anyone knows what might b wrong or how to fix?
bmxmmm 8 months ago
@bmxmmm If the iPod is fully functional, other than the screen sliders not moving, you would need to replace the Glass Digitizer (the front glass). This is the part that is sensitive to touch and if it goes bad then you have an issue just as you described. If there has been any water damage to the device there could be another issue.
DigiExpress 8 months ago

bmxmmm 8 months ago
@KaylaShae12 The issue with your backlight could be corrected by replacing the LCD screen. There is a chance that, as with any backlight not functioning, you could have a problem with the main electronics board (aka logic board). The only way to tell is to literally replace the lcd with a known good unit to see if it corrects the issue. We can do the LCD repair, or sell you the part for your own install. We do not do repairs on the main electronics board.
DigiExpress 8 months ago
I replaced the battery with your product, but did not solder the wires i just twisted them together because i dont have access to a soldering iron. I then plugged in my ipod and the bright apple shows which gives me the impression its booting, but then it shuts off before the unlock screen shows up. any suggestions for this?
freeskier0713 8 months ago
@freeskier0713 You would need to solder those leads to ensure that all functions as it should. If you have wires that are too long it may be interfering with something else internally. Apple has a grounding point for the wi-fi that is a gold circle on the backplate. if this does not make contact with the logic board you may have an issue there. generally even when using no solder, it *should* work; but doesn't all the time.

@DigiExpress thank you. Oh and two more quick questions. Where can i get the spludger? And when i seperate the ipod touch, is it easy to put back together, or will i need some kind of glue so it stays together?
Ozl01 8 months ago
@Ozl01 we ship a free spudger with most parts orders as well as under the Tools section of our website is listed all the user friendly tools. As for reassembly there does not need to be any glue used, the clips will "pop" into place and the pressure will hold the case together.
DigiExpress 8 months ago
@DigiExpress can you help me please?
Ozl01 8 months ago
How did you open it up so easily? I have tries with a flat screwdriver and it just starts to look bad. I'm trying to open it so i can fix the audio port. Oh and when you take it apart, is it easy to put both pieces back together again?
Ozl01 8 months ago

JBusie1996 8 months ago
@JBusie1996 If you replace the battery, attempt to backup any data before doing so. Unless you already have recent backups, then you should be fine. If you replace the battery and then find that the date and time both reset every time you power down the device; then you have a deeper issue.
DigiExpress 8 months ago
@DigiExpress deeper issue such as??? your scaring me man lol
JBusie1996 8 months ago
@JBusie1996 haha, I certainly did not mean to scare you, but with any type of damage to any electronics device; you have replacement parts and the receiving end of those parts is the logic board. If you have problems with the logic board, then in almost every case, you are better off to purchase a new(er) device. I would continue to replace the battery and see what it yields.
DigiExpress 8 months ago
@DigiExpress do u know how to fix a black screen on a 1st gen ipod. i reboot it many times, plug it in and nothing happens, any help?
Hawkboy09 8 months ago
@Hawkboy09 check first in the headphone jack, you may see a red / pink color. if you do see a red or pink then you have moisture damage and that is a grey area for repairs. if you see no color, only white, then you may need to replace the battery first, then possibly the LCD screen. Even if the LCD screen is damaged, the iPod should be recognized by iTunes when plugged into the computer. See if you can get the computer to recognize the it, if not you would have at least a battery to install.

the rules of a ipod is "do not DISASSEMBLE"
dejii12 9 months ago
@dejii12 We believe that if you purchase a device, then you own that device and have the right to alter it (within the FCC limitations obviously) however you see fit. This is true for the software on these devices as well, it is not illegal to open an iPod for repair nor is it illegal to Jailbreak and/or Unlock the carrier of a cellular phone. Though I do see your point as being tread lightly on this ground, an iPod is not as easy to repair as a car or the like.

Thanks
10sup10 10 months ago
@10sup10 For the iPod Touch 1st generation model, there is a tricky setup that lets the home button function when pressed. The home button pushes a white disc on the logic board itself and contained in that white disc is the contact points to close the circuit for the home button. It is basically part of the logic board itself and can be repaired only in certain cases.

do u guys replace headphone jacks..if so how much will it cost me for the replacement and the new headphone jack...can i trust digi express???
foortiz619 11 months ago
@foortiz619 We replace headphone jacks on all iPod Touch models, but not the logic boards themselves. If your problem is with the headphone jack on the iPod Touch 1st gen the cost would be $19.99 for the OEM quality part + $25.00 for the installation service + $8.75 insured return shipping, which totals $53.74. More information is available on our website, which may have any number of sales running since the time of this posting (April 11 2011)

hey can someone help me...i few days ago my ipod touch started acting weird...now u can listen to music but you cant hear the lyrics all u can hear is the instruments...what can i do...what should i do?
foortiz619 11 months ago
@foortiz619 This sounds like there is a problem with your headphone jack. The headphone jack is soldered into the device and if there is a disconnect on that solder you will loose channels (the ability to hear in stereo or to hear all the instruments / vocals). You can replace the headphone jack to see if it rectifies the problem. If it does not then there is a problem with the audio codec chip on the logic board, and that generally is unrepairable. We can Diagnose the issue for $25 (+s&h).

2KARGARAGE 1 year ago
@2KARGARAGE You can open the SETTINS.app then navigate to the GENERAL tab, then to the ABOUT tab. Under this menu you will find all the information about your iPod Touch. The model number should be listed there, a google search for that model number will provide you with the exact generation. There is another model number listed on the chrome backplate. It is in very small text and can be hard to find, but it will start "A1xxx". For instance the 2nd generation iPod Touch is model no. A1288
