I Know i'm just a youngin' but i was raised with this type of music, the so called music 2day, iz just plain GARBAGE! some songs are moderately okay, but this is real music, not about money, luxieries, and worst of all women. where are the REAL MCs these days people?
Is there another music category for this type of music? Groups like Pharcyde, People Under the Stairs, De La Soul, etc. The wikipedia lists this as 'alternative hip-hop', which, like 'alternative rock', is vague and misleading. I thought this was called trip-hop but no...
The saddest fall from grace in Modern music. Im not exclusivley a hip hop fan, but when its done right, such as here, it can really be something special. Im sure these guys must no deep down the extent of their loss in credibility and display of talent. SAD SAD SAD
YEah it is orta hard to beive they sed to be good hahaha . To be fair though , i don' t think you can blame Fergie for everything the other dudes wanted to go in that direction so they brought her in.
Yeah, I remember the old Black Eyed Peas. And then I think it was Where is the Love? when I first saw Fergie, and I was thinking who is this white girl (not to sound racist). And then I started seeing her in all the videos, and I was trying to figure out why they would do such a thing. This is my favorite BEPs song!!!
it's terrible people don't like fergie in the group. Personally I also prefer the old BEP! i remember when buying singles was the joint.. I bought this ASAP!
Its not just fergie everybody is hating on b/c hey it was their decision to pick her for the group. I think everybody is angry b/c basically they lost their swagger to a commercialized pop fan base. We have enough shitty pop music. They sold out and they rather make songs for pop fans/retail stores now than go back to their roots. Whatever tho, i guess u gotta make money somehow.
Don't know why they thumbed you down, cause you are right, this is pretty much the Atban Clan. Eazy E changed their name and one of the original members was replaced later on.
i cant agree more with this. as soon as that broad jumped off they went all sugary fukin sweet and shit. but i guess they wanted mass appel and thought by lettin her in was the way to go bout it... fuk em. this tune, in fact the whole album was dope.
Oh how the mighty have fallen. I pretty much agree they were MUCH better without Fergie. They seemed more like a group then, now it just basically seems like the Fergie show with BEP in the background.
in my op. i say fuck fergie. meth head fucking up hip hop. i can't believe these dudes sold out to fergie... i mean shit of all the ladies who rep'd hip hop they went with her?!?!?!?
ah whatever. i don't buy their shit anymore so i protest with my wallet
This was their first cut I had heard like in 2000. Used to love this video cause they was rockin' the clubhead moves at the end. I was like yo these heads can rhyme and get busy too? I liked the first bird they had too more than fergie. She fugazy yo
the beat at the end is the best the bep ever had. i actually have this single on wax. got it from a record store when they first came out. the guy who owned the store gave it to me to get my opinion and i never gave it back. got to be worth money, huh?
How come underground music has the most influential and have the greatest unknowns, yet the most famous ones who talk about cliches (bitches, money, drugs) get the most money and fame. Sure there are a few others that are true to real hip hop and keep it fresh, but the majority is stale rap. Black Eyed Peas were fantastic, and sure I still think they are good, but somehow I feel their too different from back then. They should atleast add some of their old roots into their new songs
i'm not gonna lie.. i truly love old school B.I.P., but they got big with Fergie.. i ain't hatin.. big up to those guys.. but my love is to the old school hip hop.. and this is it.
thank you obi wan. They were good but she helped them along with Justin Timberlake to crossover into mainstream. Sorry but aka white folks and thus the rest of the world. Not saying white folks didn't know who they were but any time you hear Diane Sawyer say she likes them.
Fuck that. The objective is getting paid. Be proud and broke while i'm happy doing Wal-Mart commercials. Seriously though, as long as i'm not stabbing anyone in the back, you gotta get outside the box. I know a lot of people 'keeping it real' and 'not selling out' but peeps think folks like 50 sold out. Easy for us to judge from the fan's point of view. Gotta get that paper.
I-LOVED-THIS-VIDEOOOO!!! This is the BEP I remembered. I was looking for this video and forgot the name of the song. My silly baby brother and I loved when their faces were smashed in the camera, aside from the fact that the song itself was hot! This is so cool!
They didn't sell out. The Peas are just a different end of the Hip Hop spectrum. They've always had a pop/indie influence. As true ARTISTS their sound has grown over the years & isn't repetitively stagnant like most of the "poppin' bub in the club" BS videos/songs we see & hear regularly. They still represent Hip Hop. I recall back when this video came out, aside from Busta Rhymes & Missy Elliot, Hip Hop hadn't been that creative in awhile. Their overall look was different from mainstream.
Well, if you really want to discuss "selling out," remember back when doing major commercials (a la MC Hammer) was considered "selling out?" What Hip Hop artist today doesn't have a contract with some food beverage, or cell phone company? I make that point to say that Hip Hop has progressed in many aspects & declined in others. So, the Peas aren't talkin' about ''poppin' bub in the club'' or comin' up with the latest xeroxed Crank Dat dance, or incessantly using Autotune, they're still Hip Hop!
They used to be incredible, this album helped introduce me to hip-hop as a teenager. Now they make vaguely unlistenable pop with bastardized hip-hop roots.
Allan (AP) has always been the "TRUE FRONT MAN". I remember chillin' at Allan's dad's crib. Me, Mook, Allan, Uncle Faye. This is when they were the Atban Klann real legendary ish. It's sad to see what has become of them. If anybody can get a hold of the Grass Roots LP. Enjoy. Got mine from Mook in 1992.
i remember william doing the running man out on the PE field down at the courts with this little asian dude that did backflips n shit @ Paul Revere Junior High School, he wouldnt remember me tho..

The first CD was definitely the best one. They were true hip hop with some jazz.
they used lots of live instruments in their songs and the whole CD had a good vibe.

I recall back when this video came out, aside from Busta Rhymes & Missy Elliot, Hip Hop hadn't been that creative in awhile. Their overall look was different from mainstream.
