Honestly, I love Bend Folds, I love the song Zak and Sara, and I love the idea of accompanying a sweet piano song with an orchestra. But I sadly cringed hearing this particular combination. I think Ben's style is more stomping out of some sick piano tunes, not harmonizing with an orchestra. It was like he was competing with them.

I know this is sacrilege for saying this (and I'm a long time BF(F) fan), but I liked the orchestral parts when Ben wasn't playing piano. I think it's because when he's playing, all the parts are already covered in the orchestra so it makes for some unnecessary doubling. Of course, that's more on the arranger, not Ben.

But hey, what do I know? I'm only a doctoral student in composition.
