@jjfz2000 Thank you for your feedback! We are glad you enjoyed the ad and are happy to hear that you found the website to be beneficial. The point of our ads was to encourage people to think for themselves and to get all the facts to make good decisions. We hope that our website was a positive part of helping you find the information you needed to form your own opinions about salmon farming, and perhaps we will see you around the forums!
@DelmarvaFran That's a funny comment - you say the ads didn't encourage you to find out more, yet you took the time to comment and apparently went to the website (because you now what the subject is, and by the tone of your email, I think also know the message is led by BC salmon farmers).
So, if you don't mind me asking - what PR firm or specific markets/products have you worked with?
@DelmarvaFran Thank you for your feedback. The TV ads did not take a “side” in the debate around salmon farming, but simply suggest that you should learn more before reacting.
This is for farmed salmon? That's not at all clear in the ads. I thought it was against farmed salmon. They're very funny ads but ineffective if their message is not clear.
@issyvoo2 Thank you for the feedback! Our goal with the TV ads was not take a “side” in the debate around salmon farming, but simply suggest that you should learn more before reacting. BCSalmonFacts.ca is one of the sources, but we encourage you to look at all sides.
@BCSalmonFacts Anyone who has ever caught a wild salmon in BC knows that even the adults aren't immune and can't shed all the lice...do you think we are that stupid? I have pictures of adult sockeye with lice that ate large holes deep into their flesh. Research by a DFO scientist who exposed juvenile salmon to sea lice for a matter of hours does not prove "immunity"...wild juveniles are exposed to your lice for weeks, even months. I won't be getting my "facts" from the salmon farming industry.
@schmarly2007 We are very happy that you support farmed salmon. In the future however, would it be possible for you to curtail any personalized comments? We are trying very hard to create a space for open dialogue regarding farmed salmon and have found that inflammatory statements, positive or negative, tend to detract from the discussion. Thank you for helping create a better conversation!
I originally thought it was anti-farming too! Contrary to what the website tries to imply, sea lice IS huge problem, impacting the wild salmon population no matter how "Farmers work to protect wild salmon from sea lice."
NOTE that the website knows it CAN'T LEGALLY claim that farmers ARE protecting wild salmon stocks. This is not an emotional fight, it's a logical one.
Maybe if we stop wasting fish, and feeding (wild & farmed) salmon to our pets, we could eliminate the need for farms?!
@blouiseandrews While the science may seem conflicting, there is little evidence that sea lice contributes to juvenile salmon mortality of Pacific salmon. In fact, most species of Pacific salmon quickly develop immunity to the commonly occurring parasite, and are able to shed the sea lice and prevent it from “hitching a ride”.
@blouiseandrews One species of salmon, the Pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha), is at risk of mortality at a very small size (about 0.5 grams), which is within the first few days of entering the ocean from freshwater rivers. It is because of this risk to Pink salmon that BC salmon farms manage for sea lice, and reduce the risk of sea lice transfer during the month of March – the month when Pink salmon may be less than 0.5 grams.

@jmtoriel Basically means people should get the facts before they make impulse decisions based on nonsense or flat out lies....but I think you actually knew that, but you were just trying to be...smart.
You guys should can your PR people! Lots of folks think this ad is ANTI salmon farming. On second thought, keep it running! I guess there's one thing I can agree on with you..you can't believe everything you read about salmon farms ;)
@ecophilia And apparently you work for an environmental group who apparently is quite progressive? You're comments don't seem very helpful nor progressive. While some people are working hard to provide food, provide for themselves; there's people like you who are just paid to complain and antagonise.

I think the ad is very effective. The website actually changed my mind about salmon farming.
I think this is a pretty honest ad as well. I'd rather get my information through research than to be told how to think.
Good job.

Its amazing how terrible this ad campaign is. Check out bcsalmonfacts.ca for more condescending propaganda.

@crampedu2 Good eyes! The resemblance is uncanny, but no, Cheddar Harper was not used in this commercial.
