This is awesome technology for artificial intelligence which can help us in the future for tasks that demand learning AI.

The only think you probably think is sick is that it looks human, because it's not any smarter than many other AI-projects.

This thing had almost no knowledge when they built it in 2007. Now it can walk, with some aid. It can babble and say words, but it can't say sentences yet. It is three years old and the equivalent of a one-year-old human. That means in about thirty-five years it'll be twelve. Quite a long time to grow up.

If you look in "Smithsonian", it explains that scientists are trying to make robots more lifelike by looking at the more primitive stages of life first. In order for a robot to be lifelike, it must have the basic knowledge of a baby. This robot can sense surroundings and such. It's somewhat programmed to "learn".
