You will still need two servos so you can set up the separate aileron servos and then the flaps and of course the floats. Since I had everything I needed except the ARF & floats, that was the best deal for me. And I sure don't need any radio that comes with it. And I specifically wanted four stroke. I notice the prices are up a bit but this makes a nice float plane with the mods I added - remove half of the dihedral and add a ventral fin.
You are so right. I wanted to get a Nextstar for my son (he ended up soloing at 10 years old and he is 12 now!) but I didn't want to buy the ready to fly version. So I got a good computer radio for him and a Thunder tiger pro 46 and the $100 arf for a lot cheaper than the ready to fly version and got a lot better quality stuff! I have put his nextstar on floats too and it flys great. I will have to do the flap thing like you did also when I fly off the water again though.
I had them mounted by a small hobby shop that supplied the foam floats. He did not use the original gear but installed several hard points so he could insert the wire mounts from the side into holes he drilled for that purpose. Works very well and looks good but I'm sure other ways will work as well.
David, they are made by a small hobby shop in Skowhegan Me. Made from foam and fiberglassed. Many up here us his floats ad they work well and are sturdy.
do you have a phone number for arts hobby or an email address? I would like to get some of those floats for my nexstar. Thank

Where did you get your floats and how did you install them

I purchased the floats from Art's Hobby in Skowhegan, Me. Art builds his own floats and many of our group use them. He also installed them for me.

how much do those planes cost? awesome video!
blakecarlson94 3 years ago
The plane costs $100 then you have to add the engine, electronics, and floats.
The floats I used were about $50, 5 servos @ $13.00, AR7000 receiver @ $80, battery at $24.
The engine I used was an OS 52 FS but it is no longer made but any good ball bearing 46 size two stroke would work for between $85 and $130.
