I'm glad that I have this on vinyl. This is a classic. I'm about to bump this. I have to come here to show my love for Chic. I'm a Chic freak for life baby.
Hello there! Have you seen the book Public Speaking for Frankenstein ? I got some extraordinary techniques from it and was able delivered a talk with no stage fright.
the grls&the guys were the joint ! together ]they're underrated , they deserve credit for the freak dance from their song "le freak2 chic" ,everybody still try to do + the 1st popularized rap song "rappers delight", sampled their record "good times"] both the dance & rap is very strong to this day ~30 yrs later !!
@macstar2010 thank you for your info which is quite dear to me. always good to know how to put a name on things happening to your tummy or your soul or whatever :-) i think that is the essence of what i like in chic - the yearning, the promise, something really big.
Thank you so much. I remember 1981 or 1982 my parents got this album and played it. I loved it instantly and play it every Christmas because it just feels like a holiday. Good times.
Stop labelling groups such as Chic, Imagination ,Delegation, Earth,Wind& Fire as only "disco"...disco was only a passing phenomenon that didn't last long...all these groups were FUNK to me ...and Chic was no exception to that ! To me, their albums "Tongue In Chic"(1982) and "Believer"(1984) were not disco anymore; no way ! Go listen to "Believer" and come tellin' me again that it's disco if you dare !!!
@VintageSoundsNumber1 Only the simple minded need to put everthing under the disco label, which was simply the flava of the day and the way that groups like Chic that weren't big on disco, a way to pay the bills by blending it with what they were already doing.
I remember buying the single of this when it came out in 1981. I was 12 years old and I played it to death. I still love CHIC and I still love this song (despite the fact that the group chose not to use any of the CHIC strings on the album.)
@Liberal1969 Most groups took out the strings by the beginning of the 80s, as it was too closely associated with disco which was considered passe by then.
I've played this record every holiday, especially christmas, since we got it in 1981 or 1982. I was 5-years old in 81 when this came out. I miss the 80's
I LOVE CHIC! Its hard to believe that the group lost their popularity when they had SO many great songs! I think that may have been the problem though. In my opinion CHIC was not so much about lyrics but about music composition. I remember (going back some years y'all)someone complained that their lyrics were non-sensical. Maybe it was too much CHIC that killed them. At the time it was like every other song played was CHIC! Too much of a good thing? Great to hear their work though!
yeah chic is at the top of my list also. but being trapped by being labled a disco band may have contributed as well. we all remember the backlash disco got when the hype subsided.people began to think disco is the only thing you can do.
Overlooked Indeed ; the guitar scratch is on point and the Bass is Tight -- The girls Oh well Chic! This song came out of the Risque' LP in the early 80' s don 't know why it was not as big as Good Times.
Love this....Bernard and Nile had such a chemistry to create such funky grooves for their up tempo songs, that they probably couldn't explain it, this song is just another in the long line of brilliants songs created by the "Chic Organization", simply fabulous!!
