  • why do you just remove the door from the frame, hang the frame using a level and shims the put the door back on lol. why go through all that?

  • @goldencoin100 Because adjustments to door are usually slight and cannot be done properly until door is hung. +++Bob

  • Two words ... Expanding Foam ! ! ! ... :-)

  • Called today to ask a few questions and staff was more than willing to help and went above and beyond to be sure i understood. Great

  • Bob, How easy is it to trim out the door after using this system? Looks like it might hold the trim out a bit with that flange sticking out over the door jam. Thanks for the great videos, keep up the great work!

  • As long as the screws are set deep enough trimming is not an issue+++Bob@CJBMason

  • Your method is interesting and I am sure it would provide additional stability. When I used this system I used the number of brackets recommended in the kit, but I did replace the center hinge screw with a 2 inch wood screw to anchor the hinge side of the door and provide more stability.

  • Hey Bob, Just Wondering, Why do you use an Electrical Drill as opposed to a Cordless ?

Just something I noticed about you and wondering if there is a reason for it?

Great Video By the Way !

  • @TomSawyerPainting Owned several of them over the years , seriously tired of batteries failing ,chargers shorting, usually at the worst moment! I have nothing against the use of them or the people that use them just old school I guess+++Bob

  • too complicated............. it's easyer to just remove door from frame hang frame and then hang door back very simple

  • @thebestmason1 I know no-one that does it that way. Many ways for that simple system to not work well but "different strokes for different folks" +++Bob

  • I wonder if I could use this in a bus conversion.

  • blimey this system will take you hours to do. why dont you just use the old door as a template and use wedges to adjust, i hung my doors 4 of them in half a day using basic measurements if you cant hang a door dont try. get a chippy to do it he can do in less then a hour , and maybe cheaper than buying these systems plus all the tools your need if your a novice.

  • @who8allthepies "if you cant hang a door dont try.get a chippy to do it" That is not the attitude most people who watch my videos have, they take pride in expanding their abilities. +++Bob p.s am I a "Chippy"?

  • @HomeRemodelWorkshop Bob i am not knocking your vids, but be fair, this product is supose to be for the layman. alot of people would get boggled by the things you have to do with this product to get a door plum. i guess your just showing wha tit intails. anyway i enjoy watching the vids, thanks.

  • @kingstoncowboy01 Likely American company selling chinese crap

  • @rhblakeman "The Quick Door Hanger" is made ALL in the USA!

  • You should follow up by showing trim installation may be an issue with the metal projection interfering .

  • @gcat4u It is very thin and when screwed pulls back harmlessly into drywall+++Bob

  • Call your local Home Depot store for availability!

  • @quickdoorhanger Really already? Moving alot faster than I thought it would Congrats! +++Bob

  • Bob ....thanks....I'm the biggest lame when it comes to home repairs, your instructions helped me save money and get the job done right Thanks Dude

  • I don't understand this product at all. If you can follow the instructions to use the product, you can much more easily just hang the door normally. Also, why use the other six brackets? If you feel the door is loose, wouldn't it be much easier to just throw a few shims in and screw through the frame?

  • how tall are you?

  • The easiest way to set a door is to cut 1/2 inch shim for the hinge side, place it under the hingeside of the jamb. Then make sure you have about the same reveal on both sides of the door( between the jamb and the jacks, or studs). Then plumb the hingeside making sure you have shims behind every hinge this way when you nail it the door stays were its at as far as the reveal is concerned. After youve nailed the hingeside and its plumb,

  • After seeing this I decided to let a professional to do it. Too much involved. You haven't open/close the door.

  • THIS IS ONLY FOR INTERIOR DOORS.

I can see it being used for exterior doors as a primary adjustment, but then followed up with wood shims for a more precise and stronger construction.

  • Thanks for showing this shortcut product for door installations. Of course I like your method much better using 6 clips on each side. At $4.97 per package of 6 clips that would be $9.94 per door. - That will buy a lot of shims and I have beer to reduce the frustration factor. - (Don't figure in the cost of the beer in the cost of hanging the door, I was going to buy the beer even if I were not hanging a door.) - I think I can come up with my own homemade clips from waste materials. Thanks.

  • @specialks1953 It's been my experience that too many beers don't help with door installations, just an observation+++Bob

  • @HomeRemodelWorkshop - Hey, I didn't say too many, just enough to reduce the frustration factor. - When I am doing remodel work it is not for a customer, it is for myself or a friend. When done for a friend the beer is usually the only payment received. - - No drinking on a real job and not too much any other time. Yes you are correct, too many and not much is likely to be done right and too much opportunity for someone to get hurt.

  • @HomeRemodelWorkshop. I think the only thing beer would hinder is reading the level and or tape to mark the line. Everything else looks beer approved! Seems pretty straight forward once the lines are marked... Looks like a awsome product, will buy for 6 doors this weekend if Menards has them in stock.

  • Bob.a bit confused about cutting off the bottom jam for tile. Do you only cut one side?

  • @1INACTION Yes, you only need to cut off the door jamb on the high side of the floor. This will allow the side of the door that is off the floor to touch the floor also. IMPORTANT! place door in opening first- shim up low side only untill top of frame is level, measure distance you shimmed up and cut that amount off opposite side of jamb(ie side of jamb still touching floor) Let me know if this is understood before you cut+++Bob

  • @HomeRemodelWorkshop >WOW,thank you for the quick response Bob. You made this very clear and I greatly appreciate that.

  • Hey Bob, Thanks for the Great Video. Just wanted to say that these brackets are now called "The Quick Door Hanger" instead of "quick plumb" and they are available online at the Home Depot. Great instructional video, this should really help DIYs out.

  • My concern, do the small tabs that help position the clip force the moulding to slightly stand out from the door frame. I suppose the tab would lay under the indent on the rough side of the moulding & the same with the tongue which attached to the 2x4. I'd hate to order these things & then find that my mouldings wudn't sit flush

  • @Clichyabarbes22 Had no problem putting trim over mine, just make sure you set screws deeply enough

    +++Bob

  • idea

  • Thanks

  • @Nite20fly Your welcome+++Bob

  • Believe me, the old fachioned way is NOT faster. No matter how good you are at hanging a door, these brackets still increase your time. I only use six brackets like the packaging says, not the 12 he shows(not really needed). You really need to try them befor thinking that you would be faster. You will be surprised.

  • @rickconstruction1 I only suggested using more than 6 for the novice and do-it-yourselfer to help eliminate possible problems+++Bob Also I agree you can make some speed with these.

  • Haha, this popped up while i was listening to The Doors! :D

  • Great Video. I own constracting business and i gonna try this. What about metal frame, metal comerciall doors? You have any video to show easy quick way?

  • @vxAREKxv I have hung commercial doors with the metal connectors and drywall slots. My only advice is to use a spreader on bottom untill after drywall is hung especially with metal studs.+++Bob

  • Being a professional I believe the old fashioned way is faster.

However the odd time I have stain grade door jambs this would be a good alternative to toe nailing or blind nailing to conceal fasteners.

  • Great Product! A MUST use for do it yourselfers adn contractors. I have hung doors for years and consider myself great at it, but i tryed this product and it still managed to save me over 10 min a door! Contractors should buy these things right up. Great Video

  • I've used metal brackets of this type for years for real difficult doors, a real easy way to profile your doors if time is not money, for someone to patent this approach is hard to swallow but hey if you can't do, sell, right.

  • this is so confusing.glad they dont sell it in uk

  • Good video. Those things are great, dont diss them tell you have tried them. I bought them online at the home depot, keyword is the quick door hanger. I use them for every project i do now. thanks

  • I think the opposite clips could be ditched if the trim is done right. This is a great video, and very helpful for people. Thanks.

  • Great video. I bought those exact brackets at express products .com they worked great. i was able to hang my doors in under 6 minutes and i had no experience. for 4 dollars, you cant beat those things. Home builders would be insane to not use them. TRY THEM, THERE GREAT!

  • Also an excellent video Bob. Thank you. Would the same things apply to a traditional Chinese teak door?

  • I love your vids!

  • I like that! If you're a little off, you can back off a few screws and get it right... you can't do that with shims!

  • Those clips are garbage. They tried those years ago and they didn't work then

  • nicely explained... you should have your own home improvement show. love your videos

  • @dagooooooo Is not that what this is? LOL Thanks for watching+++Bob

  • When you're marking the brackets, between the second & third one your plumb lines miss by about 1/4", approx. @ 4:41.

  • @bruno2260 I noticed that too

  • Great job. Again, nice and clear, complete. Like the product. I'll look for it. Haven't seen it at Lowe's or Home Depot yet but they may have it.

  • This "new" product is a copy of a very old one. Doing one re-model on a house built after WW2 I found something very similar on the interior doors, a piece of sheet metal that came from the pre-hung door jam for nailing into the headers/rough openings. There were no nails, shims or screws used in the door. The underside of the door jams were marked "Globe Mill Works" I guess the post war housing boom and lack of skilled finish men necessitated a sheet metal quick fix. I bought this: GREAT

  • I've hung hundreds of doors and dont need this product but what the heck if I can make my life easier I will!

  • Bravo fine sir, well done and thanks for sharing.

  • This is similar to installing a commercial interior door on metal or wood stud.

  • Hey, Bob... I'm from Brazil and here we got diferent ways to isntal a door. But this one is very easy and fast, even to amatour carpentiers like me. My hobby is to work woods like this almost every weekend. Great job, buddy!!!

By the way... as a country music fan, I liked so much the video intro, with a solo guitar song. Could you tell me the artist and song's name? I'll be much glad! See ya!

  • very helpfull video man thos thing are awesome

  • I wasn't sure why you put the clips on the other side of the door. I guess without the shims it was flopping around a bit but after the trim was installed it should have been rock solid.

  • Wow very easy way to do it! Are these or similar products sold at stores or just online?

  • its not rocket science!

  • those things would be worth it if they were always free.

  • There may come a day when you can purchase doors with them factory installed. If I sold doors I would consider it!+++BOB

  • @HomeRemodelWorkshop good video! thanks!!!

  • for 4 dollars per door, what is the worry? those things are GREAT!

  • I do like the new product, great for building confidence in door hanging

  • this guys videos are usually great, this is the only one that I found lacking.

  • You're videos are all over their (Express Products) website. I'm not sure what exactly that implies, but it brings to question you're motivation for pitching the product. I'll be giving it a try anyway, I've got 5 doors to install (first time) thanks for the tips.

  • Thanks. Helped a lot.

  • well, depending on how fast of a learner you are and how much practice you do will determine how quickly and efficiently you can put up a door. If you are a beginner working as a finish trimmer, you will start with base/shoe, windows, doors, rails/stairs. Cabinets aren't really consider trimming such as floor guys but a good carpenter can't wait to get his hands on some good wood.

  • First let me say I do recommend using this product. The bigggest advantage it gives you is keeping the frame in place while making all your adjustments. Adjustments are easily made by loosening the screws. Each package contains 6 brackets so you will have to order 2 sets of brackets per door to install as in this video. I did one door using brackets on just the front and it was a bit too flimsy. I shimmed behind the top door hinge just for my own peace of mind.

  • Great Idea

  • This product is a good idea. However, contrary to what Bob has said, it does not take years of experience to learn how to properly hang a door or door frame. There are easier methods to installing frames and doors than this product and all you need is shims, level(s), nailgun and a power drill. Most homeowners have access to these. I install frames and doors in residential and commercial settings. A good installer can do the entire process in 35-40 minutes.

  • You are correct,"YEARS" was a bit overdone, however I am sure with you as with me some doors seem to fall into opening and almost hang themselves and others, although same situation, can put up a fight and nothing seems to go well ! This could just be me as a re modeler my job duties range from ditch digger to cabinet installer and I rarely do the same type work for month after month as I am sure most DIY'rs are in the same position+++Thanks for the post Bob

  • I bought this product at the website Express Products. Never hung a door befor, but was able to install all 4 of my interior doors in under 10 minutes each! I love that product. I couldnt imagine having to spend 35 minutes a door. Doors are solid, no reason to ever use shims again.

  • because of this video and this product... today i do some interior door installation and i am very good on it . but becarefull ! use 4 braket and use also shims to the top, middle and down to make the door more solid unless then using only braket.

  • Is it me or are all these videos(this and by others) take way too much time to get everything ready? By the time you put these products on you should be already shimming the strike side and almost done. (shrug)

edit-for a DIYer I guess these products would be fine then.

  • Actually, not being a greenhorn myself,if we set two doors up side by side I am willing to bet I would be done first. I may add a long screw in hinge side top just to make me feel a little better to boot +++Bob

  • This system and video do not allow for adjustments for out of plumb walls.

  • I wish there was a good system to allow for out of plumb walls. If there is one please let me know what it is+++Bob

  • hey bob i think personally this is a very long winded way of hangind a door, i still dont think u cant bet the traditional methods, however this could be easier for a diy person, how do you think this compare too the old tryed and trusted techniques

  • Always hard to say bad things against the tryed and trusted but with-out having an experienced person with you to walk you through your first door there are many mistakes that can be made. This product seems to keep that to a minimum for the first timer/Diy'er+++Bob

  • Hey Bob I saw this Bob vVilla youtube vid named "Installing pre-hung doors". They install the trim first on one side then set the door in place. Is that way easier? Thx for all you do.

  • There are some door manufacturers that produce a door with what is called a "SLIP JOINT JAMB" where the door comes with trim already installed on both sides. You simply anchor 1/2 jamb first nail trim and jamb then slide 2'nd half jamb into it and nail trim on.That was the easiest to install door I ever saw.+++Bob

  • Split-Style Jamb

    Step1

Install the jamb half that has the door attached just as you would a standard prehung door. (See above.)

    Step2

Slip in the second half of the jamb from the opposite side of the door and cover the joint between the two with the stop molding provided.

    Step3

Countersink all nail heads with a nail set and fill holes with wood putty.

    Step4

Stain or paint to suit your taste.

  • I'm framing in a shallow closet in a long narrow room and want to install double 28" regular doors that swing out. I've got room for them and hate those bi-fold doors. Any plans for a video on how to do double doors? Can I use that product "sure plumb" or whatever it is? Am I crazy for even trying this as I've never installed a single door?

  • You are very good at this so please keep up the great work. Ps The average comment on u tube is about as intelligent as a reasonably capable boy was at 11 years old so just keep up the good work. Eric Winnipeg Manitoba Canada

  • how come there is no quick plumb in home depot in canada

  • At this point this is a relatively new product that may change soon.===Bob

  • Rob I suggest you check out my accurate door framing video, no Rob you do not hang drywall on the inside of framing when you are installing a door. Good luck on your project!

    Bob

  • Hi Bob,

Absolutely couldn't live without your help now. Thx. I'm doing a wall in my garage using steel studs (they were free). Bought the Quick Plumb on your recommendation. Well, just about to put drywall up and being an absolute novice, not sure if I am supposed to drywall the jamb of the doorway or not. I'm waiting to see you on the Home channel. Keep it up.

    Rob.

  • my hero!

  • Wow, that's just so unnecessary.

  • If you would like to jot down a quick description of how to do it the conventional way I would love to read it Thanks ===Bob

  • Well, "conventional" or not, I would be glad to tell you how. Take your trim legs and pin them to the jam in the correct place. Insert the assembly in the door opening and pin the legs to framing keeping the reveal even. Shim behind hinges. 2" nails through jam and shims. The rest is icing on the cake.

  • I think you are forgetting the main point point here. This video is not intended for people who already know how to hang a door, its for first time do it 'yourselfers'. In fact he has even improved the use and instructions upon what the manufacturers recommend. I don't even know what you mean by trim legs, so your instructions are wasted on the first timer.

    Great vid.

  • Thank you so much! Using the product I was able to hang my first door very easily, and it came out perfect!! However ordering the product from the website, the package only includes 6 brackets. You will need two packages to hang one door Your way. Only putting them on one side was OK for the bathroom, but I will use 12 per door for the bedrooms. (In case kids want to hang from the door frames or something)

  • Glad to hear it worked out well for you,the packet I received had enough for two doors{12 pieces}That I used on one. Thanks for watching===Bob

  • there is a video of a 220lbs man hanging from a door installed with the brackets on the manufactuers at the end of the instalation.

  • Great Vid!

  • thanks bob, I've been working w a seasoned carpenter and it's taken us 2 days to hang 5int. pre hung doors. Is this a standard timeline? Although these doors were 5 1/4 jambs and it was a plaster wall instead of

    drywall, making it time consuming.

  • Without seeing the project its hard to say what the timeline should be. I can say if your lead carpenter is doing a quality job those doors should hang for many years into the future. Sometime pressures to get the job done quickly can lead to poor quality that should never be acceptable==Bob

  • Cool, I can definitely say he does quality work, it's just you see the doors go on so quickly here it throws you off a bit. lol... You should have a video on how to estimate jobs of this nature; you know craftsman work.

  • Bob, Is this for insidce doors only or can I use this product for exterior doors as well. Thank you and I found this video very informative. John

  • Most exterior doors come with molding on outside of doors but if you install door from outside and put the brackets on inside of door only and bend the flange prior to installation this would work just fine. Some exterior doors are very heavy and you may want to replace one of the top hinge screws with a matching longer screw so as to reach framing for extra reinforcement I believe that would be good===Bob

  • Thank you Bob, I will try this and let you know as I have to replace 3 of my outside doors. John

  • Bob,

Just did one of my exterior doors and they worked like a charm. Thank you so much for your help.

  • What the heck!!! You yanks.Talk about big issue. why get involved with all that nonsense. clips and holes all over the place. just hang the damn thing simple.

  • Simple for those who do it for a living, maybe not for those who don't. sorry this did'nt do anything for you .===Bob

  • You rock Bob - Thanks for showing this - I may now keep all my hair as I can stop pulling it out due to door-hanging-frustration :-D

  • Bob, I prefer your installation video and installation procedure to the manufacturer's. It looks like their (wall-side) screws are typical drywall screws. Does the hardware remain stable when you have to bang out some of the underlying drywall? I think the manufacturer suggests bashing the hardware in - seems odd. Anyway, thanks for posting all of your videos.

  • you can contact express products with any questions. In response, no I belive there is "no bashing" required. You just need to screww it in. Also yes, the black screws are drywall screws. Also the end of the video from the manufactuer shows a 220lb man hanging from the door.

  • a nice idea, but in the real world i wouldn't have the time to do all this extra work. I guess if u r a weekend warrior , this would be the way to go.

  • I know its probably not what your used to but having hung a few of them in the real world its really easy to adjust to,thanks for post---Bob

  • Hey Bob My Name is Wesley and I run Best Remodelers and have put 100's of doors in the last 15 years and to tell you truth I like that kit and I like your way of adding the extra clips good idea.

    Wes.

  • hiya

  • Hello---Bob

  • How do the clips affect the casing? Do they make it harder for the casing to lie flat against the drywall and jam?

  • I had no problem with thin straps-----Bob

  • Hi Bob, I tried this product after seeing your vidio. Express shipped the hangers very fast, no problems there. I put up three doors and had problems with the last one; and it would have been a real bitch for me withour these hangers, I had a 37" opening for a 36" door. Thanks for a great vidio and info on a really helpful product.

    Paul G.

  • I was hoping they would help.Always a little nerveracking recommending a new product.GLAD TO GET SOME GOOD FEEDBACK! BOB

  • Great Great. Just ordered exterior door and convinced wife I could hang it. (never done it, but saved a couple hundred on install) I feel confident now.

  • Thanks! I've remodeled my own fixers for years, and doors in (especially) out of plumb old walls have always been a weak point for me. Just the idea of drawing plumb lines on the R/O made it all click. I have a great eye, just needed the obvious pointed-out to me!

    Thanks again,

    G. Murphy

    Ellensburg, WA.

  • Novice door installer here and I contacted Express Products about getting one of the Quick Plumb installers and the reponse was amazingly fast. I can't wait to try out this new product on my project and see how it goes. This video just explains so well how to use this product.
