I want a corn snake, then if it bites me it'll just be like "Ow!! Damn it!!" and not "OW!! Da-(colapses)" Unfortunatley, my mom is very afraid of snakes. I'm even lucky I got a Leopard Gecko!
ok, first, he shouldnt have been holding the snake like that while changing water anyway. put it in another cage or hold it behind the head. noone gets hurt
lol i have three cobras and they r the coolest snakes in the world and im holding one right now lol but cobras r very deadly but my cobras have the venom taken out of them and the fangs :D
I love snakes and they are very beautiful animals but I could never have a venomous one. For one I have kids and for two I could not stand the thought of ever getting bite by one.
Anyone bitten by an elapid like a cobra should get a compression bandage wrapped above the bite to minimize the spread of venom. Don't do that with a viper, such as any rattlesnake, moccasin, or copperhead, as they cause more tissue damage.
If you keep a venomous reptile, keep a protocol book with info on what to do if someone is bitten, include phone #s of Doctors who are experts in treating venomous bites, info on what anitivenoms work for each species owned, & where that AV can be obtained.
Do you know if this segment originally had an update from Shatner at the start of the second part? If it did, I'm guessing it was one of the small parts cut out of it for syndication.
That's another thing I've been curious about. What was it with some syndicated segments having "When We Continue" breaks, but not having them in their original broadcasts? I'm guessing it was just to fill the time or something.
Half-hour TV shows generally need three commercial breaks, so there would only be two breaks (between the two segments, and before the end credits) if they didn't put a WWC into one of the segments. I always thought they should have just put a commercial between the introduction and the first segment if it didn't have a WWC.
Also, I just found out that the original airing of this segment did not have a WWC break. "Cave Save" was the only one of the five segments in this episode to have a WWC.
That would've made sense to put a commercial break in at the start of the syndicated version of the show actually. and now that you mension the end credits, did the syndicated version ever have any closing words from Shatner? I can remember it including that back in the 90's, and they may've done it on the Hallmark Channel when they reran it, but on DHC, I can only remember 3 different occasions where closing words from Shatner were included. Also, the credits were cut short when it was on DHC.
The closing words from Shatner were included on every fifth episode in syndication. In other words, syndicated episodes with numbers ending in 0 or 5, like 205S or 210S.
Those episodes also had longer credit sequences, because most syndicated episodes would only include the writers, directors, and re-enactment performers to shorten the credits. Every fifth episode would have the full credits for the past five episodes, so the credits would be about a minute. DHC never showed those.
It just occurred to me why they may've included the closing words from Shatner at the end of every 5 syndicated episodes. I believe he always ended it with, "Join us again next week for more true stories, on Rescue 911." It'd make sense for closing statements from Shatner to be included at the end of every 5 syndicated episodes, seing as how those episodes were most likely aired on Fridays.
This dude back in 1997 had a cobra from Egypt. He brought to his residence in Stoughton,MA It got loose and everyone in Stoughton, Canton and Sharon were scared shitless. It made Healdlines all over the state. Everyone was afraid to walk in the woods the sand the grass cause we didn't know where the Cobra could be. The cobra was found about 3 weeks later in a Stoughton elementary school library underneath some books on the floor! it got in thru a vent! The guy was charged for endangerment
Who in their right mind buys a snamke that;s poisionous? I mean,it's ok if you kow how to handle them, but this dude obviously didn't know snakes are unpredictable.....or he did.
Regius101: I totally agree with you, it's dosen't seems real in some way because 3 hours for a cobra = death, you have atleast 30 minutes to get to a hostpital and get medicine. So, I deff. think this episode was "fake" or something, it is not POSIBLY a person can live in 3 hours for a cobra bite :S
Tell ya what, there's miracles that happen all the time.
Plus, the bite was in an extremity, had it been a torso bite--yeah, the guy woulda died quick, but it was a small bite, and the snake probably didn't inject much...it's the cobra version of Gold...not much to go around, and they ration it, sure big snakes like that can kill 50 men with one bite-but ONLY if they pump out their glands...and snakes don't do that usually.
If that don't convince you, PM me, I got another true story for ya.
He probably should have kept th anti venom for the kind of snakes he had. oh and thanks so much for uploading these. I am having a great time watching all the episodes. there are so many of them. I signed the petition too.
this i afree with. Sure he was careless and all but his first mistake was not getting antivenin when he got the snake. However docile it seems he should have at least taken the precaution. ALTHOUGH I still say when you change ANY animals cage you put them into a box for their safety or in this case, your own safety.
I couldn't believe the victim in this case did not have a supply of anti-venin around for the species he kept.
Godsakes, that should be mandatory!
If you dare to keep such exotic, highly venomous snakes of that nature and that magnitude; you had better be prepared because if you take a hit, there usually won't be enough time for scrambling around calling zoos, or even foreign governments, for a specific anti-venin.
man, everyone knows to calm down when being bitten by a venemous snake, but the problem is, if u get bitten, i dont think its so easy to control your heartbeat, i woulda get nervous as hell
This guy is a dumbass. He "still collects snakes, but none that are poisonous." I guess being constricted to death is more fun than a cobra bite. Why not have a nice pet, like a cat, dog, bird, or a tank of pretty fish? Why do people need to have dangerous animals? How about a pet mountain lion for that matter?
Dr. Brannam is actually my uncle. I believe that he did everything correctly. Being a doctor, you can't just trust anyone who walks in with something and says that it will work, even if the person knows them. I also want to thank the person who posted this video, because we lost the original VHS that it was recorded on while moving.
I think that was not very smart to tell the man who brought the antivenin to go home and bring the book. This was an emergency situation and he should had been escorted by the police in order to get that book ASAP. The guy could have died while he went for the book and the doctors just waited.
For every snake handler / keeper, on the place that you have the venomous snake, there you have to keep the anti-venom (in right conditions of course), for me, an professional with snakes, its unbelievable, that you poses a venomous snake, outside of their habitat / continent, where every hospital, poses the anti-venom, but in your place, this animal is an exotic species, and the hospital don't have the anti-venom in stock!
Are cobras and mambas that live in Asia and Africa more dangerous than the pit vipers (rattlesnakes, copperheads and cottonmouths) that live in the United States? I know coral snakes are in the cobra family and live in America.
How dangerous snake venom is depends on what is does. Most cobra venom goes after the neurological system while most rattlesnake venom goes after tissues. They both are deadly and dangerous, just in different ways.

yeah, i noticed that too. i was suprised those electrodes were able to read his vital signs through all of that fur. made me think of the chest waxing scene in 40 year old virgin.
Damn. I've never seen a police car take off that quickly before. Also, I might add that the officer did a pretty decent burnout as he left for the hospital.

Not really. Depending on the health of the victim, the placing of the bite and the amount of venom in the bite, it could take a long time.
The way this show depicts, the snake bit him, rather that "struck", which would have caused more venom to be injected.

Most people that get bit by a US snake will survive, many times even without antivenom.
Most people will also survive getting bit by an Asian snake, but in antivenom is required in most cases.

Because CBS's Tuesday schedule in the early 90's was like this:

9:00-11:00 - CBS Tuesday Night Movie
Sometimes when the movies weren't two hours, they adjusted the lengths of Rescue 911 episodes to compensate for that.
