  • Viva l'Italia e... la Sicilia!

  • My goodness , I miss louie

  • beautiful

  • Louis Primas rendition of this song is such a blatent rip off of Louis Armstrongs version its appaulling. This guy Prima makes a mockery of what Armstrong acheived in the name of American music.

  • @TheG00dS0n1 probably your post is the stupedest one i've ever seen on youtube.

  • you were not all born too late....take the good stuff and do something better with it.

  • I was born so terribly late..

  • HE WAS THE WILDEST! lol

  • Wow! I see this guy as the first generation post Louis Armstrong.

A Knight in the court of the King of Jazz.

  • too bad the adio is slightly off with the video..... whatever!!!! This song gets stuck in my head so much!

  • he rocks :^)

  • LOVE that he gets all exiceted over his own music and starts dancing. I do the same thing like many others

  • ou yeah :D geniálne :D

  • Super! Only Louis, Keely and Witnesess.

  • ha! i like that quicky part when this lazy river seems faster instead, the drummer at the cymbal and... Mario Bros running out time!

  • Timeless music, great performer. Superb!

  • I'm a guy who loves stuff like deadmau5 and daft punk, but this stuff truly is amazing! :D

  • im 14 and i blah blah blah blah. no one cares, stop thinking that your cool cause you listen to old songs.

  • @computernerdiam I think he's cool that he's more culture than today's swine. Today's music is crap, Cagna.

  • @computernerdiam here here!!

  • Happy Birthday Louis Prima who would have been 100 years of age.

  • More like Crazy River. :-)

  • Love Louis..Man to be in Vegas at one of his shows would have been fantastic!

I Still think one of greatest music duo moment was Louie with Phil Harris doing their Jungle Book number .....man when they started to scat free style...it was too too short!

  • imo, music has progressed so much that people are just... overwhelmed by all the new shit out there... so there's a music regression to good music like Louis Prima :] which is way better anyway :D

  • I'm in love with this song!

  • he was F****g brilliant!

  • Louis Prima is the coolest cat who ever lived.

  • Louis Prima, I wanna be like you-ou-ou.

  • Any idea what year this particular video's from?

  • can't beat the pick up 1:28.

  • gotta love how nuts the saxophonist is

  • Maybe you come down one day to tenerife. I love this music too and keep it alive in the south of tenerife!

  • Listened to this a countless amount of times, and I still can't believe just how energetic it gets!

    It's so much fun. haha

  • nutta

  • Imádom...............

  • just terrific . loved those 2 together . thanks for this .. every thing they did was awsome -- thanks, love to see more

  • I love this!

  • How lucky was I to get a free ticket to JazzFest this year and see dear Keely absolutely tear up Louis's catalog? Oh man. What a time! New Orleans is THE BEST!

  • I love Louis Prima! Fantastic performance and song!

  • Imagine being in Mid Town Manhattan, thirsty, looking for a good time. You walk into the Playboy Club, show your key, order a highball and buy a nice cigar, The lights come up and there's Louis Prima and Keely Smith with Sam Buterra and the Witnesses. They cut straight into 'When You're Smilin' and all is right with world.

  • swing it daddy oh

  • If I could go back in time to view any of my favourite artists, among whom are number count basie, Frank Sinatra, Louis armstrong, Traffic, The Beatles, Benny Goodman, I would go and see this cat. Possibly the greatest showman ever, I learn so much from his stage presence, I'm 17 and just wish there was more like him now a days.

  • my grandpa does a mean impression of louis including the dancing...which is no mean feat considering he's 86 :) i love my grandpa XD

  • the king of the swing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yikes, this is plain awful! A good example of someone who was over taken by his exhibitionism. It isn't unbridled enthusiasm for the material for in my mind the material was just a tool for Prima to parade in front of an audience. I think Jerry Lewis could do this type of "entertaining" but it would be with a tongue in cheek. Prima wants you to think he's clowning but there is something dark about his moves and facial expressions.

  • What a live wire. Never saw louie but my dad did, raved about him, I didn't get it.

Now I see what my dad meant, fantastic performer, has to be on the list of the greatest perfomers.

  • I love his voice!

  • he's great louis prima.

    Amen!

  • I'm glad i'm Italian too biden1. Them guys deffinately make you proud to be an I-TI !

  • Dean Martin, Sinatra, and Louie Prima The definition of cool? glad to be italian!!! :D

  • ademas de haber sido un gran showman, tuvo gran musicalidad y versatilidad en todas sus canciones, dandole un tono y una voz única, y muy particular...excelente Prima en todos los tiempos....

  • I haven't heard their music in over 40 years and now that I've found a few cuts IT IS ALL COMING BACK TO ME!!! My dad had at least four LPs by them, to include 'HEY BOY, HEY GIRL'. I didn't know so many of their songs had been filmed, though. This is GREAT! If he were alive today my dad would fall in love with them all over again. He played their LPs more than any others he had. Now, tell me; Louis Prima, Jr. is their son, right?

  • i agree with crooning54

  • nobody was ever better than LOUIE!

  • Louie Prima in my opinion was probably one of the greatest showmen ever...probably te most underated...this clip was FANTASTIC!!!!

  • @crooning54

I second that emotion! No wonder Louis & his band's shows were so popular in Vegas. They were reportedly the wildest & most entertaining ones in town! If they had been any more cool, they'd have been frozen! THANKS for your insightful comment! :)

  • @crooning54 why does everybody on youtube have to say everything is underrated? How is he underrated?? just because you haven't heard of him before doesn't mean he's not a legend in his own right. starting to really piss me off, don't you get bored of saying it every artist you come across? grow up.

  • @peteyparsnip ,Hey idiot, what makes you think I never heard of him before??? And what makes you think every artist I come across I say is underrated????...Jack Ass.

  • heaven must be rocking with Louis, love this so much

  • Back in their heyday Louie, Keeley and the band were really big and not just in Vegas. They were in a number of the early R&R movies and stage shows in NYC in the 50's because they were simply that good. 50 years later this stuff is still as fresh, alive and funny as it was back then and it is wonderful to watch and enjoy over and over again as well as to see that younger people appreciate it too. Long Live King Louis!!

  • this is literally one of the best things i have ever seen

  • Absolutely......Prima's the man;).

  • i am 14 years old and i love this music my friends like music from nower days but i hate it. i love louis prima i wish i was a alive for one day when he was playing!

  • Hey kid I know what you're going through. When I was fourteen In the early seventies I really dug Glen Miller. All my mates were into stuff like Deep Purple. I thought there was something wrong with me but that wasn't so. I know what you mean about being alive for one day. If I had that day I'd go and see Benny Goodmans band to hear Charlie Christian play.

  • Hey, Deep Purple is great too! I do have to say the majority of today's music sucks.

  • Thank you, bigsteve, for your friendly support to the young boy. He does need it! Best

    Da

  • @UKLewis94 I Understand you.... me too have 14 years old and i love rock n roll from 50's 60' s. Our friends can't understand this kind of music.. we are lucky!!

Scuse me for my english but i'm italian. Kiss Domiziana

  • @UKLewis94: Yeah, I'm in like exactly the same situation - 14 & I hate the bull my friends listen to.

Most of the time I'm listening to Them there eyes/Ol' Man River, or possibly something else form one of the Prima label albums, and sometimes somebody asks what I'm listening to, I show it, and the person goes "WTF is that" - But I'd still rather listen to Prima's music than not get pester for what I listen to.

  • @UKLewis94 go on like that!!!! you've got the music, you've got the rythim!!! :-)

  • @thekiktones i will do thasnkyou im now 16 and will listen to prima for life!

  • @UKLewis94 I agree he was sensational. I lived in Las Vegas for many years and I regret I never saw his show in person. I did record some songs at the same recording studio he used, called Dynamic Sound Studios with Roy Ward engineering. Louis had a label called PR1MA the middle letter was the number 1. Another great recording of this song by a Vegas entertainer was Si Zentner who had a big band version instrumental.

  • @UKLewis94 Grammar never changes though

  • @UKLewis94 You are doing good. Don't listen your friends. Stay with your good music apetite.

  • @UKLewis94 SHA-NAP! I'm 14 now, and my friends make fun of me because I listen to Louis, Frank, Dean etc. etc. I should make fun of them for listening to all that auto-yuned shit they call 'music'! :L

  • @UKLewis94 Big deal.

  • @UKLewis94 me too,I am 16 and love this sort of music (thanks to mafia 2)!!!

  • @UKLewis94

Love it when the younger generation loves this kind of music. It means it will never die <3

  • @TheDepsey I am that younger generation and as long as I live I won't let it die, This is real music with soul

  • @UKLewis94 mee too

  • @UKLewis94 I am 13 and i wish it too

  • @UKLewis94 Great kid! you have taste

  • The whole frantic approach is to make it that much funnier. The Mills Brothers were easily just as great in their own thing. To say one is better than the other is just apples and oranges.....

  • the jumping sax player cracks me up.

  • that's amazing

    thanks for posting this!

cheers from all the italian community in Brazil!

  • @badabingrockford I will have you know Louis Prima's rendition of Lazy River is a rip off, nay a FARCE of Louis Armstrong's version of this song. ergo, Prima is a Nigger Lover according to YOU.

  • Louie made this song his own with his unique style and awesome band....

  • one of my favorite songs <3

  • A frantic version of this relaxed song. I prefer the Mills Brothers with Dean Martin.

  • if you think this is frantic look up the sy zentner version

  • My Mother told me she and my dad had the pleasure of seeing Louis Prima in Vegas...maybe I was born about 40 years too late! Very enjoyable!

  • louis prima y tony bennett son unos excelentes cantantes.saludos desde VENEZUELA

  • I agree with you!

  • what a great song just makes me want to float

  • i'd be smiling for days if i were to witness that live

  • Like I said in another video I commented on, you do not see this today at all. This is when music was fun and entertaining, and not geared towards sex, fashion and materialism. This is when music, was music. 5/5 Louis Prima forever.

  • Why did it all go downhill after the 1950's?

  • Hard to say. Evil entered in I think. Before that music was more about melody, harmony, fun, silliness, girl boy love. Things were simple. Today it is all about screwing, killing, depravity, vulgarity, death metal, ego, self worship. Personal opinion music reflects the culture. Time is getting short, the end is in sight.

  • I agreed. I wish there is more music like this.

  • There was some great music of the early 60's too. I think the Kennedy assasination and The Vietnam War was the time when we turned the corner. Evil has always been around, but we became angered and cynical as a country, starting in November of 1963. The innocence was lost and we felt the evil in the world more harshly. Also, as the struggle for civil rights hit its peak years, many people took a look at things differently. It was all part of our country's maturity.

  • Him and etta Fitzgerald are the only two humans ever who can scat and make it awesome, i don't even like it when Armstrong does scat, but Louis Prima could sing the phone book , then scat, then sing it in Italian, and it would be riveting-I just love him.

  • Well, as far as scat is concerned how could we forget John Hendrix, or Leo Watson, for that matter. Lambert ,Hendrix and Ross were called the James Joyces of jazz.

  • Excelente, no me canso de ver a lou prima

  • italians rule

  • YOU SHOULD WHATCH LOUIS PRIMA- Buona Sera BY THE MUGNOLO BROTHERS AND SEE HOW THEY DID

  • Watching this performance several times will cure all diseases.

  • It could only be louis prima. Loved it.

  • awsome there should be more musi like this this guy is ledgand king off the swingers :)

  • my fiendslinda and danny garner played all of his stuff. linda actually appeared with him in chicago and did her imitation of him with him on stage 2 nites in a row. got to meet sammy 3 times. wahat a sax man. he needs his own tribute site too. he made the band. they were the ultimate show band. tom

  • Some of Louis Prima music makes me cry, it's that beautiful !

  • Great clip and a truly great performer. When Italians were a force in the entertainment industry. Too bad we just don't stick together like other groups.

  • Love this! It's taken from the movie Louie, Keely and the Witnesses did called "Hey Boy! Hey Girl!" Very cute movie and, though not the best acting in the world, they did good for musicians! Long live the king of swing!!

  • he did live long! long and glorious!

  • He always looked like he was having fun!

  • come back man we need you in LAs Vegas the town sucks without you

  • i love this song!! how sweet it is!!

  • Louie's 1961 "live" version of "C'e La Luna Mezz'o Mare" is practically the Italian-American national anthem. Anybody know if a video exists of that classic (and hilarious) performance?

  • I agree with the song but I think it was Lou Monte.

  • Lou Monte did cover "Che La Luna", or "Luna Mezzo Mare", but so did Prima (his is titled "Angelina/Zooma Zooma") as well as Dean Martin and I'm sure other artists of that time.

  • I love Louis Prima.. my father used to fill in when he came to twon

  • Gee do i love his voice

  • Nice one!

  • I could listen to this song every single day of my life. It is so happenin. Just makes me feel good. Louis Prima rocks. YEAH! Thanks for sharing. Him and his wife were hilarious characters.

  • or maybe Bobby Morris on drums its one of those cats

  • It is Paul Ferrara on drums I have added a video of his grandson Stephen Dale (my son) playing with Amanda Shaw.

  • That's Paul Ferrara on drums

  • Louis Armstrong did it best.. But this one is ok too

  • I beg to differ. I LOVE Louis Armstrong, but this version of this rocks.

  • Louis Prima- the best.

  • hes like me

  • Never get tired of watching

  • Yeah!

  • Yeah, grrrreat!! Love, love, love it. Thx

  • why do most of my audio tracks stop and start? I don't get it!

  • Talent AND Class!

    That's a great mix!!

  • i like all genres of music but something about older music like this i just find so appealing for some reason.

never heard louis prima before, well except in jungle book. kind of has an dean martin sound to him. of course he was around before dean.

anyway. good stuff. thanks for the video.

  • Check out the Brian Setzer Orchestra cover of Louis' Jump Jive and Wail.

  • i heard the name louie prima but never thought anything of it. i never heard his music. this guy is hot. man is he ever good, an excellent musician, arranger and entertainer. absolutely fantastic. wow. thanks for putting this video out here for us to enjoy.

  • Ive got a big ole hetero man crush on Louis. He's the man.

  • I think this is from "Hey Boy, Hey Girl" which also features a great tune called Banana Split for my Baby. It's almost certainly a studio recording to which he is lip synching, which is no small task considering Prima never sang a song the same way twice.

  • Are they playing that tune in playback or live? I don't understand

  • It sounds like a studio recording. They are probably lip synching.

  • Why do they do that anyway?

  • In between the slow and fast version, when I close my eyes, I can hear King Louie! 5 Stars!

  • Here's a quote from Sam Butera, who I was lucky enough to spend some time with in New Orleans.(he's the sax player in this tune) "It's nice to be important, but it's Important to be nice."

  • This is pure genius. What a talented set of people

  • Never get tired of watching Louis

  • The fact that he wrote SING, SING SING should get him in the History books

  • A-MA-ZING performance!! Not only are he and his band super talented, but they really looked like they were having a ball up there, which makes it even more fun to watch! Thanks for this :)

  • carpe carpe

  • This guy was so ahead of his time! Great post!

  • Well He was NOT ahead of HIS time he was just an INNOVATOR alongside Louis Armstrong and the Mills Brothers AND also Dean Martin.

  • Where can we get a whole gig from this genius?

  • Way cool!!!! Great memories f
